7. Chapter 7

As soon as the door had closed, Keziah suddenly realised what she had got herself into. She turned to face Ronan, cursing herself violently. She knew what happened when girls were home alone with random boys, especially the really good looking ones, and she cringed.

“So” Ronan smirked cockily, “Do you want to sit down?” He beckoned her into the lounge and led her to a massive, cream, leather sofa and she perched on the edge of it nervously.

The lounge was fairly modern and contained a television in the corner which was extremely rare. His family must be quite rich Keziah thought to herself, comparing her dirty, old flat to this stylish house and suddenly getting a wave of home sickness. She was annoyed at herself for thinking of home at a time like this, but she couldn’t help but picture the tatty furniture, the frayed rugs and the creaky bed that made up her old bedroom, where her mother used to tuck her in every night… Her mother. A sharp, dizzying pain shot through her heart, she couldn’t stop thinking of her mother and it made her so unhappy, she wished her brother and sister were there so she could cuddle up to them and they would-

“Keziah!” Ronan exclaimed for the third time.

She sat up with a start and wiped the tears that had collected under her eyes. “I’m so sorry” Keziah apologized, realizing he’d been trying to get her attention for a while now.

“It’s fine” Ronan replied, lifting his brown hair out of his eyes. “I was just wondering what was wrong, you look really upset”. He sat next to her and put his hand on her knee.

She looked up at him and smiled, his eyes were full of care and worry and she found it extremely cute. “I was just thinking about my mother, something bad has happened to her and I’m just worried”.

“I’m always here if you need to talk” he said comfortingly, lifting his hand to her face. She looked at him cautiously, this was the first time he’d properly touched her, and although it was only a gentle brush to sweep her hair out of her eyes, his touch sent sparks exploding through body. She shivered and smiled, her dimples appeared either side of her mouth.

“Thank you” she whispered, her eyes dropping to the floor. His hand lingered on her face for what seemed like forever until he finally, reluctantly dropped his hand. He stood up, smoothing down his sweater, his eyes firmly locked with Keziah’s.

“Do you want some water?” he asked her, walking towards the door.

“Yes please” she replied as he strolled to the kitchen. She sat there for a few minutes scanning her eyes around the room.

The whole house was extremely what you would call a ‘batchelors pad’, the colours blue, grey and white stood out a lot, perfect for a father and son but what Keziah had found a little odd, was that there wasn’t a womanly touch to be seen anywhere. She wondered where Ronan’s mother was, and why there were no pictures of her, or anything related to her in the house but she didn’t dare ask him. She knew what became of asking unwanted questions and she didn’t want to make anything awkward incase he asked about her mother too. She couldn’t tell him about her mother, he would probably find it all too strange and kick her out. He could even report them to Master Napier, and that would he disastrous, so she kept her mouth shut. Ronan finally entered the room with two glasses of water, and set them down on a cream, side table next to the sofa. He stood in front of Keziah and held out a hand, which she took, and he pulled her up gently.

“Do you want to see your room?” he asked her softly.

“Yes please” she replied, as he led her out into the hallway. She followed him up a flight of stairs and they stood on a wide landing. There were two rooms leading off to the right, a bathroom in front and one room to the left. He pulled her towards the room on the left and after opening the door, they stepped inside.

Keziah gasped immediately, her mouth drooped to an unflattering ‘O’ shape and Ronan chuckled.

The room was extremely bright, the massive bay windows were wide open and a breeze lifted the silk curtains and blew them about. The room was stunning, a massive oak bed sat in the middle, with silk, rose encrusted bed sheets and fluffy, soft pillows. Next to the bed was a mirrored dressing table, topped with bottles of perfume and colourful flowers. A mirrored wardrobe stood opposite it, completely decorated and lined with gold strips and jeweled edges. The dainty wallpaper was covered in roses and the carpet was a lovely cream colour, not a single stain to be seen, to Keziah’s surprise. It was beautiful, like it was out of a movie, and so very… very… womanly! Keziah was shocked, she was sure she had stepped into a completely different house.

“So, what do you think?” Robin grinned at Keziah’s stunned expression.

“It’s so, so beautiful” Keziah was abnormally speechless.

Ronan laughed and went over to close the windows. “I knew you would like it, you’re just like her you know, in a good way, and she loved it”.

Keziah was confused, ‘who was he talking about?’ she thought to herself and then, without warning she had blurted it out, insensitively and thoughtlessly.

“Do you mean your mother?"
