13. Chapter 13

Ronan, Favel, Keziah and Robin sat in the living room silently, no one knew what to say and even if they did, they didn’t want to. Ronan tiresomely tried to fathom out the siblings’ mystery but with little success, he had promised them he would ask no questions, but he was just too curious. Robin stared sullenly out of the window; he had no idea what he and his sisters were to do. They were wanted people; if they were caught then they would surely be killed. Favel abruptly broke the silence.

“Well” she chuckled whilst standing up. “I have to say, this has been extremely awkward”.

“Where are you going?” Robin asked sternly, glaring at his departing sister.

Favel shrugged. “Out”.

“Are you completely insane?” Robin exclaimed, marching after Favel.

“Probably” she replied nonchalantly. “Anyway I’m hungry”.

Robin stared at his sister. “And how do you expect to feed yourself then?” he shook his head angrily.

“I don’t know” Favel dropped her gaze.

“We can’t rely on Ronan for food, he’s given us enough already and we can’t beg or steal, that’ll bring too much attention to us, which is exactly what we don’t need”.

“Well you can’t let us starve so what do you suggest?” Favel asked – a little too aggressively.

Robin gritted his teeth and slouched on the wall, “I don’t know Fai, I honestly don’t know”.

Keziah and Ronan appeared in the doorway. “What’s going on?” Keziah asked, fiddling with her brown, wavy hair.

“We’re going to starve” Favel moaned as her belly rumbled violently.

“No you’re not” Ronan sighed “Why didn’t you just ask me for food? I don’t mind feeding you, you know”.

“We don’t want to bother you anymore” Robin replied sternly, Keziah and Favel nodded their heads in agreement.

“Don’t be stupid, you’re my guests, I’m not going to let you starve!”

Robin groaned. “We can’t, we honestly can’t take anymore from you! We have nothing to give, nothing to pay you back with, nothing you would want anyway”.

Ronan looked over at Keziah, she was staring at the blue coat rack by the front door, she looked scared and worried, she was adorable. He wanted to reply ‘yes, you have something that I want very much’ but he silenced himself, it sounded way too inappropriate.

“I insist, if you won’t let me feed you then I’m afraid you’ll have to leave” Ronan smiled, he knew he was going to win.

Robin groaned again. “Okay!” he finally agreed. “But we’ll make it and clean up and everything!”

Ronan chuckled “I don’t know why that was all such a big deal, but anyway” he grabbed his coat off of the blue coat rack.

“Where are you going?” Robin asked suspiciously.

“To get some food”.

“Wait! No! I thought you had some here, we won’t let you go out of your way!” Robin insisted, he felt so awful that Ronan was doing all of this for them.

“You can’t stop me” Ronan smirked. “But I need a favour?”

“Anything!” Robin exclaimed.

“Can Keziah come with me? I’ll need help carrying it all back”.

Robin sighed, he didn’t want Keziah to be anywhere near this boy, however nice he seemed.

“What happens if she’s caught?” Robin disapproved strongly.

“I’ll give her a hat and a coat and I’ll take all of the back routes” Ronan promised. “She’ll be safe with me”.

Keziah blushed. “I’ll be fine” she rolled her eyes at her brother’s concerned face.

Robin eventually agreed with the persuasion of Favel and Keziah, but he wasn’t happy. Keziah put on Ronan’s beanie and wore one of his massive waterproof coats, she was thrilled of the idea of going out with him but nervous too. Ronan grabbed his keys and promised Robin for the tenth time that he would be careful and look after Keziah. And then they left.
