11. Chapter 11

Keziah felt extremely awkward, she was sat on Ronan’s legs not knowing whether to move or not. She didn’t want to, she liked being close to him, feeling his warmth through her own body. He was staring out of the window into the distance, she wondered if he was thinking about his mother. She felt really weird and tingly inside, she hadn’t expected Ronan to kiss her like that, out of the blue and so sudden. She was actually very surprised at what had just happened, but surprisingly she had enjoyed it, and weirdly, wanted more.

Ronan brought his gaze back to Keziah, biting his lip. He had suddenly realised how lonely he was when he had kissed her. He just wanted, needed someone and he couldn’t help himself, especially when she was so close to him. His father was so strict when it came to girls, especially with what happened with his mother and Ronan felt slightly guilty. But she was so beautiful – and, he cursed himself when he realised. He was already falling for her. He wanted to say something to break the silence, he needed to know if she felt the same but he was interrupted with a loud, desperate banging at the door. Keziah jumped, startled, and hurried out of the room, Ronan closely behind her. She rushed down the staircase and swung open the heavy door. Keziah’s brother – Robin, followed by what seemed to be their other sister entered the house hastily, slammed the door behind them and sighed, relief spreading over their faces.

“What happened?” Keziah exclaimed nervously.

Robin shook his head, Favel seemed close to tears.

“We have to leave” Robin gulped, not meeting Keziah in the eyes. “There are posters, everywhere, they will find us”.

Keziah looked down at the floor, tears building in her eyes.

Ronan stared at the siblings. “What is going on?” he demanded, extremely confused.

“I’m so sorry Ronan for troubling you, and thank you so much for letting us in...” Robin started, wrapping his arms round his sisters. “But we can’t tell you anything, I’m sorry”.

“Are you sure? Is there anything I can help you with?” He asked desperately as Robin headed towards the door, realizing this would probably be the last time he would see Keziah again.

“I’m sure, thank you so much for your help, we appreciate it” Robin replied as he stepped outside, pulling a reluctant Keziah behind him.

“I don’t want to go” Keziah moaned, but suddenly realised how childish and desperate she must sound. “Please” she pleaded with her brother “let me stay”.

Robin glared at his sister. “Stop being so difficult, they will find us Keziah! You’re acting very immature”.

“But where else are we going to go?!” Keziah argued. “Surely its better that we stay indoors rather than trek the streets trying to find someplace to go, we’ll walk straight into them!”

“We can’t stay here forever! And we can’t burden ourselves with Ronan! He would be killed if he was found hiding us!”

Keziah scowled, she knew that she couldn’t get Ronan into trouble, but she couldn’t leave him. She liked him. A lot.

“Come on Kez” Favel sighed “You’re brother’s right, we can’t trespass here for any longer”.

They walked solemnly down the path, Keziah glancing behind at Ronan, who stood in the doorway silently, a look of despair plain on his face. She turned around, disappointed that Ronan had not said anything to her, not even a goodbye. She thought of him kissing her in the bedroom, he was just messing her about she thought sadly. She had mistaken his feelings, she had been used. Used to satisfy his lonely thirst. She felt sick with anger, and rushed to walk beside her Robin. She could always trust her brother.

They reached the end of the path and Keziah shoved the gate shut behind her, forcing back the tears which formed in her eyes. Suddenly, a voice called out from behind.

“Wait!” It yelled. “Please stay!”

Keziah beamed.
