Careless -Complete-

You were my best friend. We did everything together. You were my first laugh, my first trouble, my first time. Then you left when I needed you most. So Liam, please tell me why you're back. I want us to be the same but how can that be? We can't because back then we were careless...and I'm a mother now.

1. Prologue 1

Ow Ow Ow my fingers are burning. Here I am holding two scolding hot chocolates and admonishing myself for not grabbing any koozies. Plus I’m on my skate board…great. Speeding through these busy streets on a skateboard can surely get you some nasty looks.

I’m probably the only one on this street that has a smile on their face. While they are coming home from work, I’m coming from the coffee shop. Hooray for me!

Suddenly I’m on the ground and am holding back an impending scream because the hot drinks spilled all over me. I look up at the person who basically crashed into me and my face heats with anger. “Liam!” He looks down at me with an amused expression etched on his stupid face. “What?” he innocently asks. “What do you mean ‘what’? You just made me waste our drinks!” He shrugged, “Well this one seems to be saved.” I watched in complete shock as he reaches down, grabs the half empty cup out of my hand and drinks it.

I groaned and got off the ground. “I was supposed to meet you at yours” I complained. “You were taking too long.” “Impatient son of a-“ “What was that?” “Oh nothing.”

“Well since you basically spilled our drinks, why don’t we just make some at mine?” I nodded, “You better have some extra clothes to give me.” “You’re feisty today.” “Oh shut up.” “Here, let me get your board.” He picked up my skateboard and held it at his side as we both started walking in the direction of his house. Well, basically our house. Li and I are next door neighbors and have known each other since we were kids. We both are only children so we both classify each other as siblings.

“Ew, how dare you have him on your board!” he exclaimed as he looked at the underside of my board. “It’s Superman. The best superhero to ever live.” “Correction. Batman is the best hero to ever live.” “Whatever Li, Superman can beat Batman anytime any day.”

He left it alone because we both knew this conversation wasn’t leading anywhere else except for an embarrassing street brawl. Li and I always fought about this sort of thing. More like wrestled, but I always laid him out. He’s so weak. The feeling of hair tugging on my scalp brought me out of my thoughts.

“Stop touching my hair” I said as I swatted his hand away. He laughed, “Your curls are all wet.” “Yeah thanks to you!” I already didn’t like my hair now he was just making it worse.

“I don’t know why you don’t like your hair.” “It’s a mess!” I retorted. “Whatever, I like your curly hair.”

I didn’t. It was hard to style. My parents are an interracial couple. My dad is English and African. I don’t even know how my grandparents even met so that’s confusing. My mom is Spanish. She’s from Seville, a place where I’ve always wanted to go. They met when my mom came to England with her college for an excursion. But whatever, it’s not about them.

We passed my house on our way to Liam’s and of course, my parents weren’t home. We went up to his room and he started searching through his drawers for some clothes for me to where. I usually left them here when I’d spend the night. My eyes landed on a familiar fellow as I scanned the room. “Aw, you still have this” I teased as I picked up the stuffed bear. “Eden, give it back.” “Li, I gave you this on your fifth birthday. You’re sixteen now, I would’ve expected you to give it away by now.”  “What about that blanket that you can never sleep without” he mocked, trying to make his voice sound like mine. “Whatever, you know I had that for way longer. You gave it to me on my THIRD birthday.”

 He rolled his eyes.

“Just set it down and take these clothes” he demanded. “Someone’s bossy today” I said as I replaced the bear and took the shirt and shorts he held in his hands. I looked at him expectantly. “What?” “You can leave now” I shooed. “This is my room.” “Unless you want to see me naked…” “Fine” he grumbled and walked out of the door.

I always get my way.

“You hear about that dance on Friday?” “Yeah but I don’t know if I should go.”

Liam and I were on different ends of his bed, tossing grapes into each other’s mouths.  “Why not?” he asked. “Don’t you have to have a date or something…toss.” He threw the grape and it hit me on the forehead. I laughed. “Yeah but usually people just bring their friends, hint, hint.” I sighed, “Why do you even want to go?” “Just to get out of the house…toss.”  I threw it as hard as I could at his face. “Hey, what was that for?” “For making me go to the dance with you.” “So you’ll go?!” “Yes…”  “Yay!” he cheered and dumped the rest of the grapes on me. “You’re a dead man” I said as I got up and chased him around his room.

A/n: IDK if this is considered a prologue but I just wanted to give you guys and idea of how they were when they were younger. I’m posting a second ‘Prologue’ soon and things are going to get VERY interesting. Trust me. Give feedback! Tell me what you guys think about Eden’s character so far. I’m really excited about this story because I’ve been planning it for a while.
