Everyone around him is dead. And soon he'll be joining them. His weary eyelids finally give in, and when he opens them again, he knows they are red.
Don't close your eyes. That's all you have to know outside the security of the Dome. That's all you need to do. Because the moment you close your eyes, they come for you. They are vampires, but you can't see them, you can't hear them. They live inside you. They want control over your body. And they come out the moment you close your eyes...

3. Chapter Two-the boy

Cold, that was all he felt. An icy venom flowed through his veins, and image after image forced itself into his mind, revealing themselves to the vampire within. The boy was surprised he could still string two thoughts together, but maybe the turn took longer than he thought. The vampire devoured the boys memories, breathing in all his secrets. They boy knew he had a name, but try as he might, he couldn't remember it. It was as if his memories were being ripped from his soul. He wanted to scream, but not a sound escaped his lips. Then suddenly, he was plunged into a darkness darker than night. He knew this was the end.

But then the boy awoke. He could barely believe it: he wasn't dead. He could only see through one eye, but he was most definitely present. He couldn't move a muscle in his body, but at that moment he couldn't have cared less. Then, without warning, his body moved. It stood itself up, and walked cautiously forward. The vampire was out. The vampire and the boy, stepped out into the night air. Wind whistled in their ears, and the cold chilled them to the bone. The vampire chose the path, and the boy could do nothing but accompany him. They walked past deserted buildings, and ruined houses. Then they took a sharp turn down an alleyway which led to a train station. They stepped onto the tracks, and even though the boy could not remember his name, he knew where this train track led: The Dome.
