2. GOING TO HOGWARTS

Two years on and things hadn't gotten better for little Remus. After his attack Remus had to retreat to the woods at each full moon and hunt there, hoping that no human crossed his path.

"Remus! Your letter is here!" His dad was excited to have finally received the letter. It was nearing the end of July and Remus didn't think it would come, because of his lycanthropy. He bounded down the stairs and grabbed the letter.

"Thank you" he mumbled. He led the letter and marvelled at it. On the front read,

MR REMUS JOHN LUPIN
BIG BLUE ROOM
7 HOLME ROAD
ILFORD
ENGLAND

He turned the letter over to open it and saw the Hogwarts crest in red wax on the back. He pulled open the envelope and looked at the jest of three letters. He went into the kitchen and read aloud to his parents,

••••••••>     HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Lupin

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress     <•••••••

Remus looked through the second letter which told him all he needed to buy and then looked at the last letter. He read it silently.

DEAR MR. LUPIN,

AS YOUR SON WILL BE ATTENDING OUR SCHOOL WE ARE SENDING A REPRESENTATIVE, ON THE 25th JULY, TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE CONDITION AND CLEAR UP ANY QUESTIONS.

SINCERELY
ALBUS DUMBLEDORE

"Dad it's for you." Remus handed him the letter and turned to his mother. "When can we go to diagon alley and get it all mom?"

"In a couple of weeks Remus darling. I'll be at work for a while now and so will your father."

"Sorry son. You will have to see the representative by yourself tomorrow." His father gave him back the letter and told him to go upstairs. He told Hope about the letter.

Remus sat in his room and heard his parents arguing about the school. His mother didn't know if he should go because of his condition. His father though otherwise.

"The representative will clear things up with Remus tomorrow! He has never hurt anyone, it's the perfect place for him to be!" His father argued. It went on for a while but Remus finally fell to sleep.

"We will see you later darling." Hope kissed Remus on the head and left for the car while his father used their floo network to travel to work. Remus was alone. He sat by himself re-reading his equipment letter. He was slightly scared at going to Hogwarts. What if he is bullied and people find out about him? Would he anyone?

BANG BANG on the door awoke Remus from his concentration. He went to open the door and stood in front of him was an old man with blue twinkly eyes and a rather long silver beard.

"Hello dear boy." He looked over his spectacles an peered at Remus.

"Come in sir." Remus gestured to the living room. "Wow. You must be Albus Dumbledore." He gave Dumbledore a wide smile. They both sat down in the living room and looked at each other for a while.

"Your parents aren't joining us I fear?" Dumbledore looked a little put out. "Never mind, your bright enough to tell me anything I need to know I believe."

"Y-yes sir." Remus was slightly shy. "Are you here to tell me that I need special treatment at Hogwarts?"

"Oh no dear boy. I just want to be able to cater for your needs properly but also unnoticed. I believe that you have lycanthropy?" Remus nodded his head shyly. He didn't really want to admit it.

"My dad blames himself. Someone called Greyback did it to me. It hurt a lot." Remus looked into Dumbledore's bright blue eyes. "Will I get picked on? What if everyone finds out?" He held down his head.

"Don't worry about that young man. If you don't mention it no one will find out. The staff are all aware but there is no need to treat you differently. I believe you will need to leave the castle each month however." He smiled politely.

"Yes, professor, sir. Every full moon sir." Remus sighed and didn't look up. "My mother doesn't want me to come but my father does. They were arguing last night. Is it best that I come?"

"Why not? Every young wizard needs to go to school. Have you anymore questions?"

"No sir."

"Well I shall ask a couple. Is it ok that we plant a special tree for you?"

"Why sir?"

"There is an old passage leading to an old house in hogsmeade and it leads from the grounds itself. If we plant this certain tree over the passage you shall be able to retreat the house each full moon and transform there safely. This tree would stop any intruders so you would not be putting anyone or yourself in danger." He smiled at Remus who had looked up at him.

"Erm - o-ok."

"Good." Dumbledore looked pleased with himself. "Also, Mr.Lupin, make sure you don't miss the train." With a swift smile he vanished out of Remus' living room. He was puzzled but satisfied with what Dumbledore had told him.

Two weeks later Remus had gone with his mother to buy his equipment. He had decided to buy a medium sized grey owl so that he could send his parents letters easily. He had marvelled at some brooms in a window and wished that he could get one. He entered ollivanders wand shop and came out with a light brown wand with a dark brown handle. It had a dark brown little bulb at the end and was slightly engraved. Ollivander the wand maker had told him that it was cypress wood, unicorn tail hair, 10 1/4 inches, pliable. Remus loved the look of it and was very pleased. He returned home with his purchases.

           ******

On the first of September Remus hurried about his house to collect last minute things for the school. He eventually got everything sorted and heaved his trunk and his owls cage into the boot of his car. He had decided to call his owl 'Cinereo' which was Latin for grey.

"Isn't this exciting, hey son." He father looked at him from the passenger seat.

"Yeh." Remus gave a feeble smile.

"Don't worry mate. You'll make loads of new friends. Not many people know each other when they arrive at Hogwarts."

"Yeh. I guess." Remus was terrified. He was thinking about the train journey and who he might sit next to.

They finally arrive at kings cross station with 15minutes to spare. Hope grabbed a nearby luggage trolley and helped Remus put his things onto it. Cinereo was asleep already. Remus pushed the cart into the station and his parents followed. His father walked straight towards the platform and disappeared through a wall.

"I'll help you darling." Hope grabbed hold of the handle and little Remus and they ran together through the wall. The other side was amazing. The platform was packed with students and a large red train stood in front of him. He rejoined his parents and his father helped put his stuff onto the train. He quickly put his stuff into an empty compartment and ran back out to his parents.

"I'll miss you darling." Hope kissed his head. "I love you. Had a great time. Remember what we told you about the lycanthropy." She hugged him tight.

"I shall miss you loads mate." Lyall hugged him as well. "Be careful and have fun." He let go of Remus and stepped back.

"Love you too. I'll miss you" Remus left his parents and got onto the train. A whistle blew and it started to move. He waved at his mom and dad until he could see them no longer and retired to his compartment.
