3. Departure

Aliza’s POV

“Ali! Ali, wake up! You have a flight to catch!” Aunty C says while trying to snatch my blanket off so I could wake up.

“Urghh! No, I don’t! It’s like next month, Aunty.”  I say, trying not to give up my blanket.

“Ali, yesterday you told me. Look around, everything’s packed!” Aunty says while pointing at something.

I sit up straight on my bed and then start to rub my eyes trying to get a better view of my room. I look around and I see my suitcases and laptop bag near my door.

“I do, don’t I?” I sigh, knowing it was a dumb question. I hate waking up early!
“Yes, you do. Also, here’s your travel ticket and other documents you’ll need. I put them in a file so you won’t lose them.” Aunty says, handing me a blue file.

“Okay thanks, Aunty.”  I reply, smiling at her. She’s so awesome! She does everything for me. I place the file on my bedside table. “Won’t you check to see if everything is in its place, Ali? Aunty asks. “Aunty, I trust you. I think you’ve already put everything I need.” I reply.

“C’mon, Ali, your aunty won’t be in London. Who’s going to help you there? You got to take your own responsibility. You’re turning sixteen in two months’ time.” she says like it’s a big deal.

“Hmm, that’s true. Fine, I will check it later. Happy?”

“Yes, I am happy! Also, I want you to go and get ready now! Lucy is making your breakfast and after that you’re going to the airport straightaway!” Aunty says.

“Okay fine, Aunty.”

Aunty C goes out of my room and closes the door.

Okay. So today, I’ll be off to London. Wow.

I look at my digital clock which is on my left side of the bed; it read 1 AM. I just realized today is Saturday which means the roads will be busy since I live in Sydney and I’ll be stuck in a traffic jam, and then I might miss my flight. Lisa has told me I have to be there an hour before check-in.

Oh shit!

But wait.

The roads can’t be busy at 3AM, can they? I might as well find out myself.

So I get out of my bed and open my purple curtains and then open my window for some fresh air. Looking at the scenery, I take a picture of it and Instagram it while saving the caption: ‘Good Morning, Sydney :)’

Ahhh…the beach is looking beautiful at this time. I can hear the shore ‘whooshing’ and a few seagulls cheeping; the sand looks like faded gold. That’s what I love about Australia. The beaches are so calm and the scenery in the morning, I just love the beach!

There aren’t any people around but then obviously who’d be up at 1 AM?

Only a surfer freak, like Jordan so he’d perfect his moves for Surfers’ Fest which is next week, but he’s not out at the beach today. Hmm, I wonder why.

Well, I remember when I won first place in the girl’s category. Thanks to him, he taught me so many moves, even when I wasn’t really patient; he’d be patient and tell me to cool down and everything. I’m going to miss Jordan and some of my other friends. We didn’t even have our last meet ‘cause I thought I had to go to London in a few months, not today! Oh, well. I guess I’ll just text my friends and tell them I had to go early.

I grab my towel and head to my bathroom. I feel like having a bubble bath, but  I’ve got  to be quick,  so I take a shower instead.

After ten minutes, I go to my huge walk-in closet which is attached to my bathroom.

My walk-in closet‘s main colour is black, but it has white drawers on one section in the middle, there are 3 mannequins, the left was white, the middle one was a light pink and the right one was white. The mannequins had my top outfits for the week.

I get my clothes out for today. I’ve chosen a white printed singlet with Minnie Mouse on it, my black skinny jeans, and a black cardigan. I put on a silver charm bracelet and I choose my red sunnies to match my outfit and I wear my small red hoop earrings…and I’m set for today.

I go back into my room, and go to my dresser, spray my favourite perfume which is Britney Spears’ Believe, then I put on some light lip gloss, apply my moisturizer on my face and then I make sure my ring is still on. I don’t want to lose it this time.

Finally I am done! I do a small happy dance then I check the time, its 1:30 AM.

Then I go to my bedside table and pick up the blue file Aunty have handed me earlier then I finally get out of my room and go downstairs, and then I find Andy, my driver waiting for me.

“Good morning, miss.”

“Morning, Andy.”

“How are you today?”

“I’m good, thanks. How about you?

“Yea, I’m good! Is everything packed?”

“Yes, it is. I’m going to have my breakfast so why don’t you go to my room and grab my bags, leave the laptop and my handbag in the main room and take the other bags to the car, yeah?”

“Yep. Sure, miss.”

“Thanks, Andy.”

“No problem.”

I head to the dining area while Andy goes upstairs.

Mmmm, that smell!

I love my Chef Lucy! She’s amazing at making yummy foods!

She knows what I like and dislike. I kind of feel sorry for her that she has to wake up early just to make breakfast for me today, but then again she does get paid to do this, plus she stays in this house.

Anyways, Lucy has made me a Nutella toast and my favourite homemade orange juice, and a blueberry muffin. Delicious!

“Good morning, miss. Would you like anything else?” Lucy asks.

“Morning, Lucy…and I think that’s all. Thank you for waking up early just for me.”

“Aw, no problem, miss.”

And then Lucy just stands there awkwardly, watching me while I munch on my toast and take small sips of my orange juice while reading my favourite magazine ‘Rolling Stones’. I am wishing to be on the front cover one day.

I decided to break the awkward silence. “You may go back to sleep if you like, Lucy.” I say.

“Oh. Thank you, miss!”

“No problem.”

“Have a nice flight!”

“Thanks, Lucy! Have fun making food for the picky eaters.” I am referring to my siblings.

“Hahaha thanks! ‘Bye!” she says with a smile.

“Bye!” I return the smile to her.

Then I switch my magazine with the blue file. I start looking through it to see if I have everything and it seems like Aunty did put every document I need like the itinerary, my birth certificate, school certificate, the student exchange program documents, medical documents, and so many other things. No wonder this file is so thick.

I close the file and put it aside and I make a mental note to myself to pick it up when I will leave.

I am happily munching on my toast again, then my blueberry muffin and I finish my juice.

“You done yet, Ali?” I jump at the sudden voice and soon I realize that it’s Aunty C.

“Yes. I am done, Aunty.

“Okay then. I think it’s time you go to the airport. I wouldn’t want you to miss your flight.”

“Hmpf, fine. Are you coming with me?”

“Yes, I am. And by the way, your mum and dad called last night.”

“Really? What did they say?” I say excitedly.

“They said not to get into too much trouble but also to enjoy yourself, and they love you.”

“Really? Aw, can I call them?”

“No, you can’t.”

“Why not?”

“Ali, they are on a business trip to Switzerland. I think they are asleep.”

“Oh. I guess I won’t call them now.” I say sadly.

“Don’t worry., I’ll make sure they call you often when you’re in London.”

“Fine.” I say.

I highly doubt that. My parents never call me! Ever since they have had a huge success with their two companies "Fabrics R us" and "Save Animals", they've forgotten about their kids. They only call Aunty once a fortnight to check on us and they only talk to us on my birthday or and even sometimes they are too busy for my birthday as well. This is so annoying! Sometimes I wish they’d never had these huge companies. It’s not fun living in a huge house without your parents, especially when they are on stupid business trips! I really miss my parents. Even when they come home, they only stay for 2 days or a week most likely, and when they are home they just stay in their rooms 24/7. Angel, Jake and I only get 2 hours to spend time with them.

“Aliii…” Aunty says slowly.

“You okay? “

“Yes, why?”

“You seem a bit upset.”

“Oh, nah. It’s just that I was thinking about some things.”

“Okay Ali. Well, it’s time to go.”

“Yep, can I say good bye to my room and check on Jake and Angel?”

“Yea, sure. You have 10 mins .”

I pick up the file which was on the table and then head to the main room first. Andy has put my handbag on the coffee table so I shove the file in my handbag.

Then I head upstairs go to my room first. I open the door.

I’m going to miss my room. My whole room is just REALLY amazing, not to brag or anything, but the reason why it’s REALLY amazing is because I decorated it with the help of my three friends, Kat, Tara and Abbey.

On the right side of my room, the wall is painted white to make my photo collage stand out. That collage contains 550. I have a huge study table with all these textbooks on a shelf on top of the desk and a study chair; and all these are in a corner.

The middle of my room is painted dark purple; there’s my big queen-sized bed which is white but the covers and pillows on it is lilac in colour to match my bedroom’s theme. On both sides of my bed are a bedside table, and there was a huge photo of Zayn and I back in 2008 at the airport.  Aunty Tricia had sent me the photo and all I did is to go to a photo shop at the local shopping centre near me and get this picture produced big and framed.

The left of the wall was painted white. On this side, there were shiny black shelves in a diagonal form. On these shelves were my souvenirs from other countries my parents or I have visited. Some of the stuff were a miniature Eiffel Tower, a I “Heart” NY mug, a snow globe from the Alps, a miniature red, glossy London style phone booth and a few other souvenirs; some favourite books of mine like the ‘Silence’ series by Becca Fitzpatrick, The Hunger Games, Vampire Diaries are also standing there. Also on this side, there is a dark purple hanging round chair where I could sit and relax anytime.

I shut my door and I head to Angel’s room which is all pink and girly, but then again she’s a fashionista. I open her door and head towards her bed where she’s still sleeping. Aww, she looks so cute. She has beautiful brown curls; she's tanned a bit, and her eyes which are closed are light brown, she also has cute light pink lips. To be honest, my little sister who is 10 years old looks like an Asian princess or maybe like the Asian version of Snow White. I know when she grows up, she'll be a model definitely and loads of guys will ask her out. I give her a light kiss and a small hug and a “’Bye Angey”. Then I walk out of her room and head to Jake’s room which is next to Angel's room. His room is really neat for a guy. He likes being organized, and he loves the colour blue. Jake loves football. He'll start high school next year and I know for sure that girls will fight for him. Jake has jet black hair, brown eyes. He is tanned just a bit and he’s tall for a 13-year old. I open his room’s door and Jake is awake and is reading a big textbook.

“What are you doing, Jake?”  I said, making him jump,

“Oh hey, Ali. I’m studying for the upcoming Math exam.” he says.

“Jake, you know sleep is more important?”

“I know, Ali, but still I need to study and beat Sam! He’s too up himself.”

“I understand that you need to beat him but you need your sleep or else you’ll look like a zombie!”

“Okay, fine! I will go to sleep.” he says, closing the textbook.

“But what are you doing here all dressed up? Are you sneaking off to a party?”

“Oh yea. Definitely!” I say with sarcasm.

He just looks at me with a shocked expression.

“No! I’m going to London.”

“What! Serious? Who’s going to help me for the exams then? Why are you going early? I thought it’ll be next month last time I checked?” he says.

“Jake, I have everything sorted out. I hired you the city’s best tutor. He’ll be coming here daily and you can study in the study room and by the way he’ll be telling me what you’ve been doing and if it’s satisfactory work, okay? And make sure you’re on your best behaviour, yeah?”

“Yes, Ali. I’ll be on my best behaviour. Thanks so much!”

“Okay then. I’ll see you in 6 months but I’ll make sure to Skype you. You know your sister is always here for you.”

“Okay, Ali.” Jake then gives me a tight hug. I hug him back. I really love my brother.

“Okay then. I better be going.”

“’Bye, Ali.”

I close Jake’s door. I wait a few minutes and then sneakily opens his door again just to check on him, and he’s back to studying. Ah, its Saturday; I’ll let him go only this time.

Then I head downstairs; I grab my laptop bag and handbag, making sure my phone and valuables are in it.

I’m ready for the flight.

I get out of the house which I’m going to miss.

I head to my white Audi R8, and gets in. Aunty is sitting in the driver’s seat so I guess she’ll be driving.

I sit in front and put my seatbelt on. Then I make sure I’ve put everything in my handbag.

“Okay let’s get going.” I say.

“Okay then. Let’s go.”  Aunty replies, while starting the car.
