Inseparable

Mia biary is a 15 year old teenage girl who lives in the Romney Marshes in south east Kent. She works hard at school to get the highest grades she can achieve. She loves her horse, Domino; a fifteen point one hands high Marwari stallion who she had owned since she was thirteen.

7. Chapter 7

We walked into the stable. I took of his rug and wiped his cuts with a wet sponge. They don't look too bad, but i called the vet, just to be on the safe side. I don't want them to get any worse. I brushed the rest of his coat and picked the mud out of his hoofs. The vet arrived shortly later.

The vet said they should heal nicely in a week. She said to keep washing them and put the blanket on. I can't ride him for a week, and she gave him an antibiotic injection, just to be on the safe side. I'm going to walk him around the yard each day and put him in the paddock for a long time.

Some days we just relax together. Domino lies down and looks up at me until i sit down too. I can tell that he loves me. I sit down and he puts his big head on my lap. I twiddle around with his forelock and stroke his nose, until he falls off asleep. Sometimes i wish i could sleep with him, but i don't want to hurt him or panic him when he wakes up and get either of us injured.

To keep myself entertained, i have been looking after the other ponies whilst Domino sleeps. One of the pregnant Shetland ponies look like they are gonna burst soon! Bluebell is her name, and her foal is going to be a girl. Missy, the other pregnant Shetland, isn't due yet for about another month. Her belly doesn't look as bulged as Bluebell, but she is still big. Her foal is going to be a boy. Beanie just watches; i think he misses my granddad but he is trying not to show it. He is a strong and cheeky boy.

Once i have done, Domino wakes up again. I walk him around the yard one more time, then put him back in his stable and take his rug off. I wipe his cuts with a sponge again and he watched me.  I go to the food room and get some carrots, pony nuts and chunks of apple. I put it in his bucket, he eats it quickly. Then i fill it a quarter of the way with water, and add some medicine that the vet gave me to help his cuts heal quickly. Its finished in seconds.

I stroke his nose and he nuzzles me. My top is now soaking wet, and i giggle. I hug him, kiss him good night, then walk out the door. He comes to the door as i bolt it up. "Night boy" i said, then i bolt up the top half of the door. He walks over to the window and pokes his muzzle through. "Good night boy" i said again, and i gave him a rare treat, a small piece of watermelon.

Not all horses like watermelon, but some do. Domino is one of them. He ate it then went to sleep. I hate watermelon. He would have never tried it if we didn't have that picnic with my friends one day. One of them had brought sliced watermelon. We were playing Frisbee, and Domino wondered near the picnic and ate half of it when we came back.
