Slave Auction 2: The Boys' Story

While Jenna is helping Liam pack for college, she comes across an old photo of Niall, Zayn, Harry, Louis, and Liam in the slave auction when they were freshman. Determined to find out the truth about why boys are no longer allowed in the slave auction, Jenna gets the five boys to tell her each of their stories: Niall and his confidence problem, Zayn and his rejections, Harry and his hookups, Louis' part in a big plot, and Liam's head cheerleader girlfriend. So now, not only does she have to worry about what will happen when Liam moves across the country in one week, but she may also discover some things that were meant to remain secrets.

11. The Final Ceremony

“Attention teachers and students, please excuse the interruption: There will be no tutorial today. The final ceremony will be in the theater in ten minutes. If you took part in the auction, you may leave your class and go behind the stage to get ready. Thank you.”

The intercom clicks off and Louis and I stand up. Our teacher nods at us as we exit the classroom. We head towards the theater.

“I’m actually pretty sad that the week is over. I’m going to miss sleeping at Ashley’s.” I say.

Louis laughs, “Yeah, like you two ever really ‘slept.’” I laugh. “And don’t worry, Harry. Today another hot girl will buy you and I’m sure she will be just as much fun as Ashley.”

It gets quiet between the two of us and I notice Louis fidgeting with his hands. “Are you okay?”

He sees me looking at his hands and they snap to his sides. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”

“You just seem… Tense.”

He shakes his head, “I’m fine.”

I see Niall and call him over to us. “You sad about your week ending with Veronica?”

He shrugs, “Well, it’s not like I’m going to stop seeing her. And same with Zayn and Natalie.”

Zayn joins us.

“Woo, look at you two. Just killin’ it.” Louis cheers. Niall blushes but Zayn just smirks.

“Louis!” someone calls from behind us. We turn around and see that it’s Richard. He gestures for Louis to come to him.

“Oh, I have to go. I will see you guys later,” Louis speaks quickly before going over to him.

“You think they are saying their final goodbyes?” Niall asks.

I shake my head, watching Richard whisper eagerly as Louis nods, “Doesn’t look like it.”

We enter the room behind the stage and wait with the others who were in the auction. Liam comes up to us looking a little worried.

“Guys,” he says, “Where’s Louis?”

Zayn looks around before pointing in the direction of the football players. “With Richard… and what looks to be the whole football team,” he states, confused. “I thought only people who were in the auction or bought someone were supposed to be here.”

“Shit. I need to talk to him,” Liam says urgently.

“Why?” Niall asks.

Liam just shakes his head in response and starts to make his way over to Louis and the others. There is a loud clearing of throat heard, which makes him and everyone else in the room stop and look over at Andreah.

She speaks loudly so we can all hear. “Alright, so pretty much all you do is stand in a line while I  make a speech about the fundraiser and how great this week has been and how much money we raised and blah blah blah-”

“How much money did we raise?” Richard asks, his arms crossed and eyebrows raised.

Andreah looks down at a note card in her hand. “About $10,000.”

“Well shit,” Richard says, smirking.

“Yeah,” Andreah says. “Anyway, then I ask if anyone wants to add any donations. Then you guys hug your buyers goodbye and join the audience. The last two rows will be free for you guys to sit in. And then after that, we start the second auction. Any questions?” she ends in a bright smile.

I raise my hand. “Do I need to change?”

Andreah nods. “Yeah. You and Courtney do. Just change your shirt into the ones you wore last time.”

I nod in understanding and Courtney and I head to the back of the room where everybody’s bags are. I pull my red shirt off over my head and take the white shirt with the number 19 on it out of my backpack. I slip it on and turn to walk back to the boys, but something stops me. Courtney is changing shirts a couple feet away. She’s in mid shirt-switch, so all she has on is the red bra.

She’s definitely not trying to hide anything. Thank God for that.

I continue to stare because I can’t move- not that I wanted to- until a voice from behind brings me back to reality.

“Forgetting about me already, Harry?”

I turn around and see Ashley smiling in her cheer uniform. She walks closer to me and puts her hands on my chest.

“It’s been a great week with you, Harry. But I want to be clear, it was just for fun. I don’t want anything more out of this. It was just the slave auction.”

I shrug. “I completely understand.”

She grabs my cheeks and kisses me one last time (not sparing any tongue action), smirks, and then walks away. I smile to myself and try to walk back to the boys, but yet something else stops me. Liam and Louis are arguing in a corner.

“You can’t do this. Do you know how much trouble you will be in?” Liam is saying.

“Just stay out of it,” Louis says sternly.

I intervene. “Guys, what is going on?”

Louis shakes his head. “Nothing.” He walks away. I look towards Liam for some insight, but he shakes his head also, and walks away.

What the hell?

I find Zayn and Niall.

“Do you guys have any idea what’s up with Liam and Louis?” I ask.

They shake their heads.

“All I know is that Liam seemed worried,” Niall says, clearly confused.

A clearing of throat is heard again. “Okay everyone!” Andreah exclaims, excitedly. “Line up in your same order next to the people who bought you.”

I find Ashley and we get in the line. Andreah leads, so Liam walks behind her out of order. We walk on stage and the lights blind me once again. There is a small, unenthusiastic applause.

Andreah walks up to the mic. “Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the final ceremony.” Another small, sad-to-call-itself-an-applause applause. “The slave auction 2009 has been a huge success! This year, we raised a grand total of $10,450!” This time, it is a much bigger, more excited response from the audience. Andreah waits for it to quiet down before speaking again. “This year, we beat the record for most money raised in the slave auction since the first one in 1970!”

Jesus, this school is old.

There is more applause. “If you didn’t participate in the auction and would like to make your own donation, just head over to the table where Principal Carter is sitting and get a complementary bumper sticker!”

Mr. Carter nods his head from the side of the room. He is sitting behind a fold-out table. The only thing on the table is a small metal box, filled with, from what I could see, paper. Oh, and the complementary bumper stickers.

Andreah continues, “This past week has been so much fun, but unfortunately, the slave auction must come to an end. It’s time for the volunteers to say goodbye to the donators.”

Ashley turns to and gives me a hug as the others do as well. She makes sure to give me one final pinch on the butt. Since my back is to the wall, no one would know why I jumped a little. Everyone but Courtney, Andreah, and I walk off the stage.

“Time for the second auction.”

Courtney walks off to the side and I stand center as Andreah tells everyone that the bidding starts at $500.

Random senior girls all over the room call out numbers. One or two football players do too just to be annoying and raise price. Finally, it is between two girls.

“$3,000!” one yells. The other sits down.

“Harry Styles. Going once, going twice, sold to Nicole Winters!”

Not to my surprise, the girl who walks over to Mr. Carter’s table to pay is in a cheer uniform. All I can really see of her is her long black hair.

“Next up, Courtney Shannon. Bidding, again, starts at $500.”

I walk over to Nicole and wait for her to finish at the table. Her hair falls down to her belly button. She is very tall and isn’t fat nor skinny. Her skin is very light and flawless, her eyes are small and dark, her lips are thin, and her nose is flatter than most. She wasn’t ugly. But, she wasn’t someone who would catch your eye walking down the hallway.  She walks over to me.

“Hi, I’m Harry,” I say, holding out my hand.

She looks down and blushes. “H-hi.” She lightly shakes my hand. “I-I’m Nicole.”

Does she have a stutter?

“You’re on the cheer squad? So, are you friends with Andreah?” I ask.

“Yes. No. W-well, sort of. Not exa-”

“I have something to say!”

I look up to where the voice came from to see Louis standing on stage.

“Louis?” Andreah whispers, but loud enough for me to hear since I was pretty close by. “What are you doing? Sit down!”

Louis just shakes his head. “Dear students of this wonderful highschool! I have something important that needs to be said.” Next thing I know, Louis turns around, bends over, and flashes everyone his ass. Gasps ring out through the room. It isn’t until a fart escapes from Louis that everyone begins to laugh hysterically.

Oh, dear Lord.

Andreah looks shocked and covers her eyes. I see the principal and other teachers start to get up, so I quickly run on stage and drag Louis to the back room.

“Louis! What the hell are you doing?” I ask half laughing and half mad.

He smiles and pulls his pants back up. “Just having a little fun.”

“You do realize how much trouble you are going to be in in a couple seconds, right?”

“If that’s the price I pay for an epic time, then so be it.”

“I would highly call that an epic time.”

Mr. Carter storms back stage. “Young man, come with me to my office.”

Louis nods, “Yes, sir,” and follows him out of the room.

Holy shit. He IS insane.

I go back to the theater and find Nicole. “I am so sorry about that. I need to go find my friends. Where should I meet you after school?”

“I-it’s okay. I have cheer practice so I will just m-meet you at the football field when I’m done- when it’s done- when. Yeah, just after practice.”

I smile. “Will do.”

What’s up with her?

I find Niall, Zayn, and a pissed off looking Liam.

“What did he do that for?” Niall asks me.

I shrug.

“It’s just Louis being Louis,” Zayn says.

“But he would never go this far to get himself in trouble,” I explain. “Liam, did you know about this.”

Liam’s jaw clenches and he shakes his head. He breathes out heavily. “I know absolutely nothing,” he says before storming away.

“Well, he definitely knows something,” I say.

“Do you think the football players put him up to it?” Niall asks.

“The football players weren’t even here to see it,” Zayn adds. “I was sitting behind them, and they all left while Courtney was being auctioned.”

“I guess we will just ask Louis when he gets out of the principal’s.”

“So, what’s your punishment?” Niall asks as we find Louis in the hallway.

“Five day suspension.” Some people walking by high-five him.

“Was it worth it?” I ask.

“Hell yeah.” We walk outside of the hallway and stop next to the water fountain.

“I don’t understand how that was worth anything,” Liam disapproves.

“You will.”

“What does that mean?” Zayn questions.

“Never mind,” Louis shakes his head. He changes the subject, “So, guess what?”

“Richard is having a huge party this weekend at his house. And when I say huge, I mean huge. All four of you are coming. I’m not going to let you miss it. I would be a terrible friend if I did.”

Liam laughs sarcastically, “Definitely not happening.”

“A party? Hell yeah, I’m in.” I high-five Louis.

“See, Liam? Harry is fun and isn’t a downer like you.” Louis mocks him.

“Count me out of whatever it is that you are a part of Louis. I’m done,” he says and takes off through the crowd of people down the hall.

“Can I bring Veronica?”

“And can I bring Natalie?”

Louis laughs. “Yes, you two can bring your dates.” I roll my eyes.

“Sweet, I’m in,” Niall says.

Zayn nods. “Me too.”

“Cool. Now all we need is to convince Liam to join us and we are golden.”
