12. ch12

Greave gently let him go and he held his wrist. “I don’t want this why am I chosen but you were chosen to. So what about you? You were the leader, and my parents didn’t want me because my fate was sealed to because of this thing!” Arcum said and now is super confused because he knew that Greave was the leader but why was she protecting him? There had to be more to the story.

“Arcum, I was just trying to protect you and Winter. My leadership was just a master to apprentice power shift nothing extraordinary.” Greave said and she started to distance herself from the both of them.

“Greave what’s wrong?” Winter asked and Greave shifted quickly to almost a secure, calmly like state that she was almost talking to little children.

“I failed now twice. I don’t want to fail a third time.” She said. “The last time is when you were found Winter the first was that night when I almost died.”

Arcum perked up when she mentioned the night when they were attacked. He gently arose and sternly asked while posing his hands sternly on the pew in front of where Greave was starting to sit down. “What truly happened that night?”

“The creed happened to change the future of us all. Come you both need to know why we are all in this mess in the first place and it was when I first felt true defeat, the type you can’t shake off.” She whispered to where her voice was barley hearable as she told about that night.

Shiv stood over Greave with a huge smirk on her face knowing that Arcum was off to hopefully do the task. Grave wrenched in pain as life slowly fell out of her and onto the floor. She breathed heavily since she was quite scared since she knew how truly evil Shiv was and can be.

“So this is the powerful Greave, not so high and mighty now is you?” Shiv snickered into her ear sending chills down her spine and Shiv rose back over Greave with a wider smile like a Chester cat and death all rolled into one as she started towards her blade that was settled into her hilt.

“You won’t know.” Greave huffed knowing the pain was getting worse.

“Oh but I will, I will I know that feeling to be ruler.” She laughed looking directly in Greave’s ghostly eyes.

“There is a decedent and another person among you. I still win.” She said with a slight sassiness to her voice but life was fading from Greave’s grasp and the enemy was just around the corner and Arcum was still nowhere to be found.

Greave started to settle but she kept fighting to stay awake. She knew that there were people everywhere that had the family markings that have a professional life elsewhere that’s still loyal to the family and understand that they cannot escape.

Shiv on the other hand was completely panicking in her mind but kept the calm look about her on the outside. “A decedent to the main line? I must find him or her plus this one secrete person, they must die.” Was all that Shiv could think of at the moment. Her mind was racing on the whom was the two people that she needed to kill but her mind clicked on one person in particular and he just left to finish the task that they had but she knew she has to wait for the right moment.

Silence passed both of them for what seemed like a while before Shiv spoke but when she did she made sure each word was like a lasting dagger as she spoke. “Don’t worry I’m not going to kill you or Arcum, yet. Just hope that he never knows his true destiny or that I find the other one because if I find them both...” she paused and dug her dagger deep into Greave’s wound. Greave wrenched at the pain that surged into her soul she started to want more than just death she wanted her two apprentices to be saved. “No Greave I win because I will train Arcum to become just like me.” Shiv just smiled as she left Greave vendible and bleed to death as other guards sounded off that they found someone while she slipped into the shadows.

“So that night... you tried to save me? Not much of a fighter any more Greave?”  Arcum said stepping into the isle.

“I was down she took advantage of me! Greave shuddered. “I was just glad that one of us was living a double life and marked me as a civilian to let me live.”

“And what about us? You could have come back!” Arcum yelled.  “Forget the creed forget, the family, forget you!” He ran back to the tub and slit his marking. The pain shot out from his wrist as the blood ran and stained the tub. “I’m… free. Now it is your turn” he breathed as Arcum stared at the deep gash that streaked across his birthmark, cutting it in half.
