9. ch 9

Arcum felt sleep cradle him for a short while in till he awoke to rustling of high heeled boots that were accustomed to the assassin’s life. Arcum’s eyes were wide open and were quite awake as the sound stopped in the night right behind him. He slowly felt around for the weapon edge of his old pen that was shattered earlier as his heart pounded in his chest as he finally found the edge and quietly grasped it.

“It’s me.” Winter’s voice rang in his ears and all fear subsided. Arcum turned around and there she was right behind him like the professionals. He turned and was greeted by her young face that was in shock that she was doing that good.

“What are you doing here?” Arcum rambled and slid the sharp edge into his jacket pocket.

“Greave wanted me to get you.” She said and Arcum stood from his bed.

“For what?” he asked as he gathered his shattered pen for the trip. He knew he had to leave as soon as he could and this was a golden opportunity for him to disappear especially with what just happened as the smell of death was slowly creeping into his room.

“She wouldn’t say.  Just that she wanted to show what it is like in our new world.” Winter explained and it perked Arcum up and started to head out but something stopped him and he realized that Winter was staring at Garen’s body. “What happened?” She asked.

“The creed found Garen and took him.” Arcum huffed.

‘You had to kill him, I understand because of the order.” Winter said as Arcum noticed a peace of the wanted poster in her hand. Arcum could just nod. She calmly handed back the slips of paper to him and smiled.

"He attacked me first." was the only words that could come out of Arcum's mouth.

"Sis is going to be proud she knew Garen would be a hard target." Winter said and leads Arcum away without another word into the darkness.

Arcum has to admit that Winter is a good spy and Greave taught her quite well with sneezing around and basically having a license to kill quietly and quickly it is almost like she was born into the shadow of death in human form. Although everyone is when you have the family markings but for some resin it memorized him while they jumped and climbed on top of rooftops while navigating through the streets.

The dark was their friend well hidden as everyone slept below or underneath them as light poles acted like little suns bellow showing Winter the way as Arcum had no clue where they were going to meet Greave. But soon they will spot her or she will spot them.

They climbed down a fire escape that was across from a little hollowed out church that looked out of place from the rest of the growing close quarters outskirts of the almost city.

Arcum looked up on top of the hill the place felt so much like he has been here before. Not like the pray aria at the crumbling mansion that he had lived at all his life but had seen it before as the shiny  historic sign outside showed everything about the place but Arcum didn't read it.

"This is where Greave wants us to meet." Winter said as she came forward to the side the darkness.

"Why?" Arcum asked as he could feel the slope gnaw on his muscles since he wasn't used to it.

On top of the hill the church stood beautifully all boarded but still small lamps lit inside showing that the caretakers are closing the place for the night. Arcum’s question was still unanswered as Winter stared to climb the side where some of the brick and stone showed outward. He just shook his head thinking that she has done this before and fallowed as the rough edges made wonderful grips and holds as they made it to the roof. He saw Winter stand at the bell section of the roof looking outward above the city.

Arcum was amazed at the lights and sounds of the place below of people running from place to place in the night. Everyone working together to just live in harmony made him wonder what would happen if he lived among those people. Being normal and being free of just killing.
