7. ch 7

"Greave, how? I thought you were."  He started to say in disbelief.

"Dead. That is good." she smiled as she came forth. Her now modern close seemed unfit where the past and present meet and stay.

"Why good? You can take over the family again!" Arcum yelled

“Because, I’m like you in a way. I always hated killing people I just was able to push it aside easily.”  Grieve said as her face slightly changed to sadness. Arcum looked at her with confusion since she was once one of the grates and now she says that she was acting that she enjoyed killing even though she was born and raised to where she would know nothing more but this life within the family and the creed.

“How?” Arcum breathed. His look must have calmed Greave to a softer side since her voice became almost silent but another voice boomed in the mist of the stony walkway before she could form an almost hearable word.

“She has lived outside of the means of the creed.” The voice boomed. Winter huddled behind her sister for safety. Arcum reached into his cloak for his pen dagger and let the blade portion shoot out and shine in the few blades of light but it was a shame that he had yet to truly clean.

Arcum couldn’t seem to see the person but Greave seemed to have an idea where the shadow was as her eyes slowly move from beam to beam fallowing the figure that Arcum realized was a familiar sight.

“So my old friend you now walk among the living.” The vice echoed as it moved in front of them and the shadow dropped in front of them. The long jacket floated to the floor as the boots clicked from the weight of her body.

“Hello Shiv.” Grieve sighed as Shiv looked up and her dark eyes sliced through Arcum like hot butter knifes almost paralyzing his every move as she came closer and closer.

“I thought I killed you.” Shiv grunted in-between her teeth.

“You were close but you’ve failed.” Grieve said.

“Just gives my pleasure to see you suffer again!” Shiv smiled brightly as her daggers hissed their chimes as they left the holsters.

“Poor people of the creed, you have never seen the outside world. Shame on the creed, shame on all of you for condemning everyone to this life because there is no use for us.” Grieve smiled a sly smile to where Arcum started to wonder what she meant by outside world. He stared at her with wide eyes and with wonder that Winter shared with him when they first met.

“Outside world?” he wondered, “There is more than just this place of killing.”

“That was your mistake.” Shiv said as she started to swing her daggers at Greave but she dodged it with such grace and beauty that she looked like she was dancing then trying to word off Shiv.

“No you are just power hungry like I was. Leave the creed! I beg you!” Grieve shouted and Arcum can hear voices in the distance and were getting closer but Grieve’s eyes locked with his and he had a chill that was sent down his spine but it was strange chill. Instead of her eyes being harsh like Shiv’s it was more of the feeling of the unknown that he knows that he might not get but love to get ahold of someday. “Good bye Shiv and remember the creed always will find you.” She said and a gun went off that Grieve had hidden in her clothing and hit Shiv right in the leg.

Shiv went down quickly as the noises quickly got closer and Arcum didn’t realize that Grieve was about to disappear into the night but just before she left she glanced back at him. And just like the wind she was gone.

“You got lucky.” Arcum said as he stared at the spot that Grieve was lingering.

“Shove it Arcum! She is an enemy now and you know it. And Winter….” She looked around with concern on her face while Arcum did the same and realized that Winter went with Grieve.

“Is out of the creed… I hope.” Arcum said as he left leaving Shiv in a bitter rage.
