The Tournament

It's been over 20 years since the end of World War 3, which has left a devastating impact on the world. Nations have had to amalgamate together into "continental republics" in order to solve the worldwide economical crisis and as for the crisis in the education systems, it was agreed that a fight to the death tournament would take place.

But this year's tournament is like no other. What will happen? Who will win?

4. Heartless (Maya)

I opened the letter and read it:

Dear Maya Wilson,

Due to our impartial lottery, you have been selected as the female representative of the British State for the Tournament. The Tournament will last for a month and there's a possibility that you might not survive so saying goodbye to your loved ones and packing your personal belongings will be essential.

See you at the North Korean State,

Your agent Tom Morris.

I couldn't believe my luck. I was finally going to be in the Tournament! I've finally found my way out of this cruel, forsaken world.

But I was deeply angry as well. What loved ones? All I have is a neglectful mother, three younger siblings who I can't understand and three older siblings who'd rather abandon me than look after me.

So then telling Mum was going to be easy.

"What does the letter say?" She slurred while holding a cigarette.

"It says I'm the British State female representative for the Tournament." I replied, pretending to look horrified at the letter.

"Finally, one of my kids actually gets chosen for something."

"Mum? Don't you realise what could happen to me? I could be murdered!"

"Good."

"Your an evil and heartless bitch. I bet you only ever thought of me as a mistake from a one night stand. So from now on, the good me is gone!"

Mum's reaction? A sadistic laugh.

"Seriously?"

"YES! I'm gonna give you a taste of your own medicine, you old hag." And this is the start of a new chapter in my life, when the good girl goes bad.

My blood began to boil and my anger was getting too much to contain.

"Woah calm down Hulk."

"NO! YOU TREATED ME LIKE DIRT FOR 13 YEARS SO NOW YOUR GONNA GET THAT DIRT BACK!" I eventually punched the living room mirror and began smashing things up, all for that disgusted and terrified look on Mum's face when...

Knock, knock, knock.
