Paint Me A World Of Color

I pull on a pair of gray jeans, a dark gray t-shirt, and a couple of gray bracelets that Ana set out for me. It’s not that I can’t pick out my own clothes (technically) or that I only wear white, black, and various shades of gray. It’s not that everything is truly these colors. It’s just that when I pick out my clothes, they end up jumbled in an awkward mix of color, blacks and blues and oranges and purples and browns… all in one incredible mess of an outfit. It may look fine in black and white, but in the world of color… let’s just say it doesn’t quite work out. I wear clothes of color, at least, Ana says so. It’s just that, in a world like mine, if you could see it through my eyes, you would understand it all. In my world, there’s no beautiful cyan, no mystical peach. Through my eyes, its all black, and white, and the shades in between. My eyes, my world, my life… is not a life of color. Oh what it would be like, to live in a world like yours. In a world, a world of color.

1. "Colors"

"Ana Fox," The teacher spoke in a monotone voice, boredom seeping through her words.
Ana perked up at the mention of her name. "Here," she said quickly, then relaxed, her eyes shifting back down to her book.
"Austin Fox," The teacher continued, with the same emotionless voice as before.
"Here," I spoke quietly.
"What's that, Colors?" mocked Jayson (A.K.A. Bully Central). The populars, who were seated around him like a flock of idiot geese, all laughed (I might add, they laughed like geese as well).
"No talking in class," The teacher robotically called out.
"Sorry teach." Jayson said, the words dripping with sarcasm as they escaped his lips, which were pulled up on one side into a lopsided smirk. I just slid down in my seat, letting my light hair fall into my face. I hate it when they tease me, and especially when they call me "Colors". As if it was my fault that I'm colorblind (Newsflash, IT'S NOT). I tune out the teacher's annoying voice for the rest of the hour, listening intently to the rhythmic ticking of the clock, like crickets at night, or waves on the shore. I'm so lost in the sound that I'm still sitting there as the bell rings, and as the rest of the class pours out of the door, and as Ana tells me that she's going without me, and as Katie Richards from the Softmore class waves her hand in front of my face.
"Hello, Austin? You're kinda in my seat, and I get the feeling you're in the wrong classroom..." She trails off.
"Oh my gosh, Katie, I'm so sorry!" I exclaim, standing up and racing out the door. "And thanks!" I yell over my shoulder as I shoot through the hallway at lightning speed. I spin around the corner, and I'm knocked to the ground. I look up, and see...
