Skinny Summer

I was fifteen back then, and it was summer. No worries about school or mean girls. I went on a road trip with my dad. He was always a good father, but he didn't know me. No one ever knew me. I lived a life in my head. A girl was haunting me in every reflection.
I felt insane, but I had to hide it. I couldn't tell my dad.

10. Last purge

Brandon had apparently heard me since I spotted him ten meters behind me.

I turned around. My secret was out; he knew.

He no longer had that stupid smile of his. I had taken away his smile, but when?

“How long have you been here?” I asked.

He didn’t answer. He just stood there, shocked.

“Brandon, how long have you been here?” I asked frustrated. “Answer me God damn it!”

His eyes were widened up and his jar was hanging in the air. His eyebrows were down and he didn’t say a word. I just stood there, with bloody knuckles and mascara all over my face. My hair was a mess and my pants were covered with dirt from the ground.

I slowly walked towards him, trying to make him stay instead of running off and telling the others about it.
I started crying again.

“Brandon… Please…” I whispered. My lower lip was shaking and my vision was blurry from all the water in my eyes.

He started to breathe very heavily, looked at me up and down and then ran away. He ran off.

I looked down and let the tears out. It was Game Over for me. I pulled my hair and screamed.

I fell on my knees and looked at the sky. I was hysterically crying, losing my mind.

My body was tired and damaged, and so was my mind. I got up and started walking away from the camping site and deeper into the forest. My head was spinning and I knew I was unstable.

That guy Brandon probably couldn’t keep his mouth shot; he had probably told everyone about it.

I got to a big, green lake. I stared at my horrible reflection. It wasn’t me; it was that evil girl from inside my head. She was all I could think about, all I could see.

I came closer, studied her looks carefully. She still looked horrible.

I moved my hand down to the water, but before I could even get to touch it, her hand came up.

It was thin and bony. Her skin was pale and her nails were longer than ever.

She grabbed on to my hand, held it tight and pulled me down.
