5. Chapter 4

I woke up to the hot heat of the desert. 'Where am I?' I thought.

Aaron was right beside me, fast asleep, and I noticed we were in a small cottage. I observed my surroundings. It was a small, one room cottage with a tiny kitchen and a bed. Aaron and I were both on the couch. I quickly checked my neck for bites. All clear. I still couldn't trust this guy.

I got up, and noticed my clothes were ripped. "What happened last night?" I thought aloud.

"You went crazy..." Aaron said, sleepily opening his eyes.

I jumped in alarm. "I thought you were asleep!" I said.

"Not anymore..." Aaron said, stretching.

"Well, I have many questions for you..." I said, sitting down beside him.

"Go ahead. I'm an open book now!" Aaron said.

"Where are we?" I started.

"A few miles into the Sahara Desert...in a tiny cottage my dad used to own." Aaron said.

I looked at the cottage again, thinking of Uncle Liam.

"Next question, how did we get from England all the way across the world?" I asked.

"I'm fast..." Aaron shrugged.

"Next, what on Earth happened last night?" I was waiting to ask this last for I knew a lot happened.

Aaron took a deep breath. "Somehow, some of my blood must have gotten in your mouth. It was the first time you had tasted it and plus, last night was your transition, so you went--" Aaron started before I interrupted.

"Transition?" I asked.

"It's the night of every vampires 16th birthday that they officially become...well...a  vampire..." Aaron explained.

"But I'm not a vampire!" I said.

"Just because you are half doesn't mean you aren't one. Every person with vampire blood in them goes through with this..."

I thought for a second. "Have you gone through it?" I asked.

"Yea, I turned 17 last month." Aaron said.

"So you've...you know..." I asked him.

"Drank blood, yes..." Aaron said, rather ashamed.

"Does this mean...I have too?" I asked nervously.

"I don't know, you're not like me...." Aaron said, "Now let me finish...let's see...oh right! Once you tasted the blood, your eyes got red like mine, and you went ballistic, attacking everyone for more. It's ok, that's how I was the first time..." Aaron said, after seeing my worried facial expression.

He continued. "My dad ran, like a coward, but I grabbed you and we headed out. I put you on my back, and I'm a pretty fast runner, so we got to the nearest airport 3,000 miles away, and flew to Africa...It was the safest place I could think of!" Aaron finished.

"How could you run so long?" I asked, amazed.

"I'm a vampire...I have a lot of energy!" Aaron laughed.

I looked down. After everything I heard, I started to cry. I was a monster!

"How many people did I kill?" I asked.

Aaron was quiet. "A lot..." he said.

I cried even more. "How come I don't remember?"

"I gave you a sedative and you were out..." Aaron said.

I got up, and walked outside. The heat really didn't bother me. "What am I?" I screamed out to the emptiness.

"Camille, there's nothing wrong with you!" Aaron said, patting my shoulder, and following behind.

"I never wanted to be like you people!" I turned to him and yelled. "I hate bloodsuckers like you, but apparently I am one, or not, or whatever I am!"

Aaron stepped back. He was hurt. I could tell. "So you hate me?"

"I'm sorry!" I apologized quickly. "I guess it's just the hunter that's in me that makes me say those things...Technically, I'm one of you anyway so....and I don't really know you that well!"

Aaron grabbed a bag inside and came back out. "It's ok, anyway, we better get going. My dad will be searching for us..." he jumped off the porch, and I realized it was morning.

"What are you doing?" I yelled, "Vampires can't be in the sun!"

"That's just a myth!" Aaron laughed. His eyes gleamed in the light. They weren't red.

"Oh," I said stupidly. "Why aren't your eyes red?" I asked.

"It's morning! Cam, do you know anything about vampires?" Aaron laughed.

"No." I said bluntly. Cam. He called me Cam. He was being so friendly,  and acted like we've known each other for decades. I played along, because I didn't want to see his angry side.

I jumped off the porch too, feeling the heat on my body. I remembered my ripped clothes and told Aaron.

"Where do you think we're headed to next? Your house!" Aaron.

"If we're being hunted, why are we going to my house back in England?" I asked confused.

"It's not like we are moving in, you have clothes to get!" Aaron said, and with that we walked off into the desert.
