"Stay Away!" He yelled. "You don't want to see me like this."

2. Chapter 1

Karissa's P.O.V.

Rain drops fell to the floor along with the tears of my family. We watched in pain as the white casket, covered in flowers, was lowered into the ground. I felt my fathers hand rub my back as I clung onto his arm. His lips pressing onto my head.

"We're going to be alright." He whispered in my ear.

But were we? Were we really going to be alright?

The casket finally sunk into the ground. Everyone finally started leaving. Except for the 3 people in my mothers life that meant the most to her. I picked up Cheron and he buried his head into my neck. Being only 3 years of age, he never would've thought his mother would leave him this early. As she was buried the monument was placed next to her grave.

Adele Mariah Anderson

Loving Mother, Wife, and Daughter.

"We love you."

1980- 2013.

"Lets go." My father said emotionless. We walked to our car, strapped in just like mother has always told us to, and drove off. Leaving my mother behind. And she would never come back.

"Time to get up!!"

I jumped as his loud voice rang through my ears. He pulled the blinds giving me the full view of the rainy day. I covered my head with my pillow blocking out his voice. He immediately pulled it off and hit me with it. "Come on get up! You have to drop Cheron off a day care."

I groaned and sat at the edge of my bed. Life was much difficult. Now that mother was gone I needed to be here for family the most. My dad kisses my cheek and walked off. "Be quick Karissa." He said. I walked to my bathroom and turned on the cooled water. I undressed quickly and the freezing water hit my back waking me up, and cooling me down. I quickly washed and soon, my hair was fixed and I was dressed. I ran down the stairs to the kitchen. I kissed Cheron's head and grabbed an apple.

"Ready?" I asked him. He nodded and got off the seat that was too big for him. He grabbed his small backpack and we walked out waving goodbye to our dad.

We rode the 5 minute ride to the day care. I looked back every time making sure he was ok. I loved my brother. He meant the world to me. I wanted to give him the best life, and be the mother figure that he would never have. I pulled into the small parking lot and opened his door. I picked him up out of his seat and set him on the floor. We walked into the daycare locking the car door behind us. As we stepped in I could hear the children laugh and cry. Cheron's worried face was put on.

"Will you be back?" He asked. I kneeled down to his level.

"Daddy's picking you up today ok?"I said

"I want you to pick me up." He answered. I smiled and looked down.

"Listen bud I'll be right there to tuck you in tonight ok? Now be good." I said to him kissing his forehead. He smiled that cheeky little smile I loved. "Have a good day today, ok?"

He nodded and ran into his classroom. I walked to the sign in booth. "Hey hun." I heard Luke say at the sign in. Luke and his family owned the day care. They were always so kind to our family, even when mum was around. I smiled at him and signed Cheron in.

"Any med's today?" He asked me.

"No not today. He took them this morning but if his blood sugars low call me please." I told him.

"Like usual." He answered. Giggling I gave a big smile. Luke and I have been best friends since grade school, all the girls like him, which made it hard for me being his only friend. But no matter how much jealously and hate was given to me I didn't mind it. We were best friends and that's all the mattered. Looking back I waved goodbye. Not realizing that someone was walking through the door. I bumped into the tall figure almost falling backwards but before I knew it I was in the strong arms of someone. I looked up. His brown eyes met mine and his voice was deep and raspy.

"You ok?" He said. I nodded flustered. I heard Luke come around from the table. The boy helped me stand up and picked up my bag for me. "I'm guessing this is yours?" He asked. I nodded taking my bag.

"T-Thank you." I said still trying to get together what happened. He nodded and walked with the little girl he had to the sign in station. Luke came over to me and put his hands on my arms.

"Are you ok Karissa?" He asked.

"Um yeah. I'm fine." I said with a shy smile. "I have to go. I'll um...yeah I'll call you." I said.

"Be careful." He said with a smirk as I walked out. I stuck my tongue out at him and left taking one more peek at the boy who caught me by surprise. He looked older than me. Maybe a few years more. His eyes were a light brown, and his left arm covered in tattoos. His strong figure carried a small girl who he dropped off at the day care. Once I saw him turn around and walk to the door I ran to the car opened it fast and sat in there watching his next move. He walked out, looking to the left and right for passing car. He had a stern face on. He was very serious. Very, tough you can say. He put his shades on even though the clouds were out. He walked to his car opened the door and in a matter of seconds he was gone. I rested my head back. Thinking about this boy, who I've never seen before.

I woke up from my day dream when I heard multiple rain drops hit my windshield. I turned the car on and drove off. Trying to get the mystery boy out of my mind.

"Can I get you anything else." I asked my table full of people.

"No thank would be all." They said with smiles. I made my way to the back and took my apron off finally work was over and I could just go home. While clocking myself out Hanna came up to me.

"Hello Miss. Anderson." She said teasing.

"I've told you a million times. Its Karissa. Just Karissa." I chuckled.

"I know I just love to annoy you. Anyway, so the entire staff is going out tonight for happy hour wanna come?" She asked me. I couldn't go. It was 9:30 and I had to be home. And I couldn't drink anyways. I was only 16.

"I cant." I told her. "Sorry."

"Its fine maybe we could meet up just the 2 of us this week?" She asked.

"Um yeah sure. No I have to go. Text me tomorrow."

"Aren't you gonna be in tomorrow?" She asked. I shook my head.

"My dads bringing me to the gym he works for." I said rolling my eyes. My dads a personal trainer and he wants to show me what he does, I think he just wants a stronger bond with me I guess. She chuckled.

"Good luck."

"Thanks. See you later." I waved goodbye and walked out to the empty table I served moments ago. I collected my tip. I counted. 1, 2, 3, 4. 4 dollars. I sighed putting my money into my pocket and walking out the door. Of course I wish I had a better job. But at least I have a job, and at least I provided and helped my father. Soon I was in my car. I put the key in starting the engine. But nothing happened. I tried once more. Nothing. I cursed to myself. I tried the last time and nothing happened. This would always happen but I "thought" I got it fixed. I got out of my car and slammed the door. I kicked the tire. "Piece a shit." I said annoyed. I started to begin walking. That's the only thing I could do. It was nighttime and I happened to live in the worse neighborhood there was. I walked quickly. I didn't want anything to happen. My house was about 30 minutes away driving. Walking was another story.

I walked passed familiar parts making my way to my home. I stopped when I heard a shout. A shout for help. It sounded like it was coming from near by. I walked toward the sound and found where it was coming from. I peeked my head into a near by ally where the noise seemed to be coming from. There were 2 people in there and one was being held up by his collar.

"Help me please!" He shouted. I felt like I should go and do something but I was frozen. I couldn't move. My eyes were locked on the 2.

"Keep calling. Go ahead! No ones gonna hear you!" I heard the man holding him up yell, the voice ran through me. The familiar voice. But where did I hear it from. He pulled something out of his pocket. He held it to the mans throat. "Any last words? Maybe like I should've given you your money, huh? Making my family suffer? huh?! You treat me like shit? Huh?! Now you'll be the one suffering. You'll understand just how it feels!" And with a swift movement of the arm the mans throat was cut. And the boy succeeded. When the dead man hit the ground a loud gasp escaped my lips. The man was killed. I covered my mouth quick. The boys head turned right toward me. All I could think was run. But why wasn't I running!!! He ran toward me and that's when my body got the hint. The fear inside me told me to go. I ran off. I ran in the opposite direction of my house. I could hear his feet hit the ground from behind me. He was so close up I ran as fast as I could into another ally. But as I leant against the wall catching my breath, thinking I lost him, he jumped in front of me terrifying me. His hands pinning my arms to the wall.

"Stop please!" I begged. I struggled to get out of his grip but I couldn't.

"Shut up!" He shouted. I looked at him. As his face came into the light it was someone I would never think of. I could tell he knew who I was too. Those brown eyes pierced through me just like before.

"You?" We said at the same time. My breath was shaky. My hands were shaking. He looked away getting his thoughts through his head.

"Please let me go." I asked nervously. His hands gripped my arms tighter. The blood from the other man oozed on his hands onto my arms. His hands would get tighter every time I moved.

"I'm sorry babe. That's not gonna happen. No matter how much you beg." He said lifting my chin with his blood stained fingers. With my free arm I tried pushing his other hand off but it was like glue. I could smell the alcohol in his voice. No wonder he was acting so crazy.

"Why not!? Why cant you let me go?!" I said still trying to get out.

"Because, you being the little nosey shit you are peeked in on something you shouldn't have been." He said sternly. "Didn't mommy ever teach you better?" He said sarcastically. That pushed me off the edge. Soon I wasn't afraid anymore. I was angry. The pain inside was brought back up. I looked up into the drunk boys eyes. He smiled an devilish smile. I lifted my leg high and hard and soon my knee landed between his legs. He fell to the floor grabbing his crotch. That's when I took my chance and I ran.

"Get back here!" He yelled but it was too late. He was on the floor in pain and I ran too fast. All I wanted to do was to go home. As I ran I thought,

"How can someone so beautiful be so deadly and evil inside." But I couldn't let him get the best of me. And he wouldn't.

I finally got home. It was 10:30. As I ran in and slammed my door my dad came and embraced me.

"I was so worried about you." He said kissing my head.

I didn't want to tell him about what happened. I knew he would get upset. "I'm fine dad. Its just the car broke down and I had to walk here." I said letting go of him.

"Well I'm glad your ok. Are you- Wait?" I got worried as I saw the confusion in his face. His hand came to my chin wiping something off. "What's this?" He said holding his fingers up to me. I looked at his fingers. The were stained with the blood.

"Oh um that's probably food, you know from the restaurant." I lied. He shrugged it off and went to wash his fingers. I pulled my sleeves down hiding the stained blood from before. I sighed a sigh of relief, "Well I'm gonna go to bed. I'll see you tomorrow." I kissed my father on the cheek and ran up to my room. But before heading up there I stopped at Cheron's door. I opened it slowly not making any noise. But he was still up.

"What are you doing up bud?" I said kneeing at his bed side.

"I was waiting for you. You promised you would be back to tuck me in." I smiled and kissed his head.

"Well a promise is a promise. Now come on go to sleep." I covered him up and made sure he was comfortable. "Night bud."

"Goodnight." He said in his little high pitched voice. I walked to the door and closed it slowly. I thought of all the times my mother did this for me. Bringing back memories were like taking out old films and replaying them in my head. They were painful but intriguing to watch.

I walked back to my room, heading straight for the bathroom. I turn the tub on and started to undress. I looked at my arms in the mirror. Stained with blood. I looked like I was the one committing the murder. Once the tub was filled I turned off the water and sat in the warm water. Once my arms hit the water the water turned a light red. I sighed, trying not to think about what happened today. But the only thing that was stuck in my head were those eyes. Those dark brown eyes. I remembered his words, they were harsh and deadly. But so deep, hitting my soul like bullets. I felt like my mind is playing tricks on me.

Was I angry at him?

Or intrigued?

Confusion roamed through out my mind. But my whole head was stuck on one thing.
