3. Messages in the Window

                                                                              Chapter 3

Abby lay in her bed, her eyes focusing on her clock. The time read 11:45 yet she was still awake. She rolled over and saw something in the window. It was banging loudly against the glass. Sitting up, she stared hard. It was a Converse Shoe tied onto a fishing rod by its laces. Abby slid slowly out of bed and walked cautiously over to her window. It was dark and she feared it was something that would scare her. She got closer. There was something attached to the shoe. Abby peered, getting closer. What was it? It was square and a faint yellow. Abby put her head against the window. It was a note.

LOOK AT MY WINDOW.

Who's window? She looked around, confused at the message. Then she noticed something in the window opposite. Jamie's window. He was holding the end of the fishing rod with one hand and a large piece of paper in the other. The paper said:

HELLO.

Abby rolled her eyes and went to climb back into bed. The shoe banged hard and sharp against the glass. Abby swivelled round. He was holding a new message that read:

RIGHT BAK PLESE.

Abby shook her head and turned round. The shoe banged against the glass again. Abby turned round again.

I WONT STOP TILL U REPLY.

Abby sighed. Maybe she should write back? No, she was tired and needed to sleep. But then maybe she could write just one note. Something telling him she wasn't interested and was too tired. Yes, she would write just one note.

I AM NOT GOING TO WRITE A NOTE. I AM TOO TIRED.

There, that should tell him Abby thought. By now the shoe had been reeled in and was no longer dangling in the window. She watched Jamie write a new note and hold it up.

U JUST ROTE 1. STOP BIENG TIRED!

What? Stop being tired? How is that even possible?

I CAN'T STOP BEING TIRED!

YES U CAN.

NO I CAN'T.

YES U CAN.

NO I CAN'T.

OK, MABEE U CANT.

I'm always right, thought Abby.

WHT IS THAT BEEHIND U?

What? Abby swivelled round and saw...nothing. Jamie had tricked her! She turned back to the window to see Jamie laughing hard. Tears streamed out of his eyes.

THAT WAS NOT FUNNY.

YES IT WAS.

GOODNIGHT. I AM GOING TO BED NOW.

NO IM SORRY.

OK, I'LL STAY A LITTLE LONGER.

THNX.

Goodness, can he not spell correctly thought Abby.

WHO'S THAT BEEHIND U?

HA HA HA. I AM NOT FALLING FOR THAT AGAIN.

How dare he try and trick me again thought Abby.

NO. SERIOUSLEE WHO IS THAT BEEHIND U?

I AM NOT TURNING ROUND.

PLESE TURN ROND.

NO.

IT IS SCARY. TURN ROND.

NO! IF SOMEONE WAS THERE THEY WOULD SPEAK!

'Abby?'
