10. In the Notebook

                                                                               Chapter 10

...was the words I'M JUST SO SORRY. I GUESS THIS MEANS NO MORE DARING JOURNEYS ONTO THE GREENHOUSE WHICH IS A VERY BIG SHAME. I ONLY KNEW YOU FOR 48 DAYS. JAMIE.

What? Just a message? No clue to saying his new home. What was the point in that? It was sweet to leave her a present, but she was slightly upset that all it was, was a message. Oh well, she thought and put the notebook on the desk.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

'Come in,' she yelled and her bedroom door opened. Her dad stood in the door.

'Abby, where's the bread? I can't seem to find it.' Abby sighed and looked at her Dad.

'I didn't get any.' Then she burst into tears. They rolled down her cheeks, dripping into her lap.

'Abby! What's wrong?' He went over, sat down next to Abby on her bed and held her close.

'Jamie. Jamie's gone! Social services came round and reported them and their Dad got mad and drunk and hit Jamie's brother so Jamie has been taken away and I don't know where,' sobbed Abby.

'Abby, I'm sorry but it's for his own good. Would you prefer for him to stay here and be hit by his Dad?' Abby shook her head.

'No, darling, you don't. It's better for him to go.' Abby nodded.

'I understand. I just wish I knew where he was.'

'Well, darling, you don't know, but that's life. It's unfair. I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do.' So they sat in silence, Abby wondering if she'll ever see Jamie again.
