So Over It [completed, undergoing editing]

Christina: I can’t wait to come back to my hometown, Austin, Texas, to see my boyfriend, Matt.

Matt: I feel so guilty. She doesn’t know that I have a new girlfriend now… and I didn’t even tell her.

Christina: I’m heartbroken. I can’t believe he would do this to me. He cheated on me!

Matt: I miss her, more than anything.

Christina: I’m slowly healing. Maybe things will get better.

Matt: I’m just so confused.

Christina: I’m tired of wallowing around in misery and tears. I’m going to get revenge on this sleazy cheater, if it’s the last thing I do. I’ve got a hot guitar player, an amazing voice, a school dance to perform at, and the best girl-power-breakup song I’ve ever heard. Time to show him girls can be tough, too.

13. Christina's POV

"Okay," Ari said. "Since we're going to be meeting Nick at the mall, we need you to wear something that screams confidence."

"Snoopy screams confidence," I said weakly.

Everyone exchanged glances.

"Umm... no." Gabi said finally. She rooted through my closet. "Oh my God. Can I steal everything in here? Would that be wrong?"

"My mom and Phil went shopping for me before I got here," I said. "That's why there's so many new things."

"What about this?" Gabi held up a pink crop top from Wet Seal that said, "LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED." There was a kiss printed on it, too.

"Umm... no." I said. "One: Way too provocative. It's gonna seem like I'm trying too hard. Not that I like this Nick guy or anything, but still. I mean, look at the back."

Gabi turned it over and whistled. The back was sheer and all black lace. "I see what you mean."

"I'll wear it," Ari said suddenly.

We all looked at her.

"Okayyy. Go nuts," I said, weirded out. I handed it to her.

"What about this?" Nicole held up a white ruffly Abercrombie top.

"Too girly," I said. "I don't want to look like a poodle."

"I'll wear it, then." announced Nicole.

I threw up my hands. "What is it with you guys wearing my clothes?!"

"Oh! Here. This seems like you." Ari held up a tight, neon purple, low-cut tee shirt where the sleeves went to the middle of my arms. Other than that, it was plain. I smiled. Ari might have been super-bossy, but she had the best fashion sense out of all my friends.

"Approved," I said. "Now, what to wear for bottoms...,"

"What about shorts?" suggested Nicole.

"Ew. That would look... wrong. I'm not a prostitute...," I said.

"Agreed," Gabi said.

"Oh! I know." Ari rooted through my closet some more and pulled out the tightest pair of skinny jeans I had. "Wear these with cowboy boots."

"Nice," I said, taking the jeans. I was impressed.

We changed into our clothes, and then got in Gabi's car to go to the mall. Gabi has a pink BMW that she got from her parents for her birthday. I swear, Gabi's parents spoil her so much. I mean, besides my older sister who is in college, I'm an only child. But Gabi's, like, a serious only child. I'm so jealous.

Gabi's car:

We turned up the radio to "You Make Me Feel" by Cobra Starship. The pulsing rhythm pounded in my ears and heart and made me feel better. As we sang along to the chorus, I felt tons better.

Girl I've been all over the world
Looking for you
I'm known for taking what I think I deserve
And you're overdue

And if you listen you can hear me through the radio
In that bright white noise
What I been missing in my life
What I been dreaming of
You'll be that girl
You'll be that girl
You'll be

Everything you want so let me get up there
I'm the baddest baby in the atmosphere
Tell me what you want so we can do just what you like...

When we got to the mall, Nick was already there. Oh my God, he was even cuter up close. He was, in fact, wearing a leather jacket, and smelled of Axe spray. Normally I hated that on guys, but it smelled good on him. He, unlike other obnoxious boys, didn't marinate in the stuff, which was excellent. He hadn't shaved in a few days, and the stubble on his chin was --dare I say it?-- sexy. Ugh! What was wrong with me?! I had a broken heart, remember?!

"Hey. You must be Christina," he said, half-smiling at me and shaking my hand. "I look forward to working with you at the dance. Your friends told me you're a singer, no?"

I went, "Nung." I don't know what "nung" means, it just came out.

Nick laughed.

"She's shy," Ari told him, and then glared at me. You know, that say-something glare that best friends give you when you meet a really hot guy.

"No problem with being shy, dear. You just gotta liven up a bit!" he said.

We laughed and talked a lot then, joking around and having a good time. I liked this guy; I was hardly nervous anymore and I could look in his eyes. He had really cool eyes-- sort of this amber color that you could just be sucked into.

We went to the food court and got Chinese, and I slurped my noodles up right away. Ever since my breakup with Matt, I'd kind of had no appetite, but I felt better now.

Maybe a little too better. As I slurped up my noodles as fast as I could, Gabi, Nicole, and Ari gave me this "cut-it-out-with-the-pig-eating" look. I guess they read in "Seventeen" or something that it was too unladylike to eat so fast like that. I got the message and ate more slowly. I don't think he noticed, though.

After that, we walked around the mall and ended up in my favorite store, Love Culture. Just as I was walking in, I spotted someone.

Not just someone.

Yes, that's right... it was Matt. I felt my noodles coming up the wrong way, but I forced them back down.

Gabi elbowed me in the ribs. It really hurt, but I didn't say anything, just nodded to show that I saw him too.

Gabi sent me a text:

Gabi: act like you're sooo happy and you're better off without him. flirt with nick; he'll notice. ;)

I smirked and nodded at her.

"So, what are you going to buy from here?" asked Nick.

I laughed like it was THE funniest joke of the century. "Hahahahahahaha!!! OMG! Nick, you are hilarious!" I swatted his arm. From behind me, I saw my friends give me a thumbs up.

Gabi sent me another text.

Gabi: omg, it's totally working.matt- he's looking RIGHT at you!! :D

I smiled and put my phone in my back pocket. I was totally over this. The rest of the day, we looked for dresses, and my heart felt lighter than it had in a long while.
