Calum Hood. That's me.
I'm the new kid on the block.
I've just moved to Sydney, Australia with my family to start a new life. But I don't want to.
I liked my old life.
I loved it in fact.
I was the popular kid in school, with a banging girlfriend who just happened to e the head cheerleader. My sister, Mali Hood, got offered a fashion job here in Oz, and my parents just expected me to drop my life and move half way around the world for her.

But what if moving to Aus wasn't such a bad idea after all?
Well, it can only go up from here.

13. Chapter thirteen

Walking hand in hand with Emily down the deserted road was really a picture perfect moment. Bad thing was, we were only a block away from our houses.

Slowly I slid my hand out of hers, causing a frown to come upon Em's face. I nodded my head over towards the bricked homes which were now visible in the distance, and she sighed.

I followed her up onto the cracked footpath and stopped her mid step, swinging her around and softly placing a kiss on her lips. She smiled up at me before turning around and walking up her steps, turning around and waving a small goodbye before she disappeared inside her house.

Just as their wooden door closed shut, Ashton's car was in sight coming down the hill. I stood on the edge of my yard, watching as he pulled up the driveway, parking the car and scrambling out, school bag slung over his left shoulder. He sent a strong glare towards me, before stomping up the polished steps. I hiked across the freshly cut grass, and up onto their porch. Ashton stood still, his back to me, taking heavy sighs every few seconds.

"Ashton" I began, "I'm sorry."

He turned around slowly, as if he were dragging a 20kg shackle behind him. Our eyes locked. I averted my eyes to my shoes as if my life depended on it.

"I'm sure you are." He snorted, folding his arms across his chest.

"I truly am. It honestly wasn't planned and I know she is your sister and I know you may find it disgusting but"

"Enough." Ashton growled, his hand raised in front of his face. "I forgive you."

"You- you do?" I stumbled, feeling as if the words simply slipped away from my mouth, leaving me speechless.

"Sure." He shrugged, tugging at his keys dangling in his jean pocket. Pushing them inside the lock, he flicked his wrist, and pushing the door slightly ajar. "You wanna come inside?"

"Uh sure." I followed him inside, watching as he shrugged off his bag and jumper, throwing them in the hook beside the door. "Want a drink?" He quizzed, as we waddled into the kitchen.

"Okay." I smiled, as he pulled out two glasses and a jug of juice. "Wait, so their isn't any awkwardness between us?" I asked, taking a sip from the glass Ashton just handed me.

"Nope." He answered, pushing the jug in the fridge. "You wanna jam for a bit? I think your bass is still here somewhere..." He wandered off searching around for it.

Remembering that Emily had given it to my this morning obviously without Ashton's knowing, I started stacking up some excuses to steer him away from looking.

"How about you check upstairs and I check down." I suggested, Ashton simply nodding in agreement. As he set off upstairs I bolted for the door, and over to mine, quickly popping inside to grab my guitar before shutting the door tight. Just as I reached inside Ashton's house I heard him coming down the stairs, his shoes clanking against the wood.

I spun around and ended up in the lounge room, my back to the doorframe. I could feel him getting close. Come on Calum, control your breathing. "Hey I looked everywhere and i couldn't- Hey you found it!" Ashton exclaimed, and I spun around to face him, a smile plastered on his face.

"Let's jam"

Emily's POV

Flicking through last months cosmopolitan magazine was boring after skimming it five times, so I decided to do something else. I unplugged my earphones from my ears and scrambled off my bed, where vibrations tingled my feet and echoed in my ears. Drums. I scurried to my door and pushed myself into the hallway, contemplating whether to go see if Ashton is alright from our run in this morning, or whether to leave it.

I glided down the stairs and into the kitchen, rubbing my hands over my leggings and tugging at the over sized shirt I had put on since I got home. Pulling the pantry door open, I skimmed the contents and decided on a packet of chips. I sat down on one of the breakfast stools, throwing the food onto the counter.

Dizzyness suddenly swept over me and I felt my body slum, I struggled to kept myself up right. I gripped onto the corner of the bench trying to steady myself, as my body started to sway. I tumbled to the side, the counter slipping out of my grip as I fell out of the chair. I felt my body shutter as I collided with the cold, hard, tiled ground and suddenly everything became a blur. The music around me died down, my head was spinning. My body shook, and I struggled to keep my eyes open. I tried to curl up into a ball but my body failed me, instead going as stiff as set concrete.

At last my eyes shut, yanking me out of the real world swallowing me into a world of darkness.
