And when the night gets dark, and there's no way back, I'll call your name, but it's fading, we're fading; After leaving school for nine months, Fenella is ready to go to high school again.... Just not ready to face her best friend and former crush Calum. What Calum doesn't know is that he's the father of Fenella's baby. When given the chance to raise his child, even though both parents are only 16, the opportunity is taken away when he finds out that Fenella is going out with his now ex-friend Ashton Irwin.

18. Freedom

So many times you say
You're staying out tonight
I wish that I could just walk away
But I won't leave you behind

Fenella's POV

I sat on the couch crying. I don't know if I was genuinely pissed, or if it were just the hormones. I soon found a pair of arms wrapped around me. I wanted to struggle out of his arms, but I needed a hug.

"I'm sorry Fen. I don't mean  to be like this. It's just that I'm really scared. I was mad. What would have happened if you didn't get home safely. What would I tell your parents? Like I said, you two are my gifts. I can't risk losing you. I made a promise to you and your parents that I would keep you safe. You know I love you so much." His grip on me grew tighter as he kept talking.

"I'm sorry I lied to you, I just wanted a little freedom you know? I'm tired of being stuck at home all the time. You know how long I've been stuck at home. I'm sorry." I curled up closer towards him, burying my face in his chest.

"It's ok Fen, I love you so so much. Um.. Here." He let go of me,  searching inside his jacket. What he was looking for was a rectangular box.

"What's this for?"

"Just open it."

Inside the box was a gold chain with 3 charms. Each of them a birthstone. A topaz, representing me, a ruby, for him and an alexandrite, for Xander.

"The colors aren't the best together, but they still work because they compliment each other, kinda like us."

"Aw, Ashton." I gave him a kiss on the cheek. "What's this for? Our 1 year anniversary was two weeks ago."

"I know, but on this day last year, you told me you were pregnant. I had an option that day, to break up with you, or stay. I think I made the right decision." I sat there smiling. Speechless really. It all seemed so cliche and movie-like, but it was honestly the cutest thing in the world.
