The 64th Annual Hunger Games.

In Panem there's a game. It's not a pleasant game, it's just sick.
Children are chosen to fight to the death. Killing each other for the prize to be a victor.
Becoming a victor means you are bathed in riches and are made famous throughout all of Panem. I come from District 1 and were one of the richest districts. We're also trained in the art of survival, I am actually quite skilled with knives.
In my district it's supposed to be an honour to compete in the games but in reality I am completely terrified to ever have to enter the arena.
My father once won the games and he has set a bunch of rules for me if I ever do...one of them is to not fall for any of the other tributes.

And that's exactly why I am screwed.

8. Interviews.

Luke's P.O.V

I woke up startled. Panting in my bed, I had just been in a nightmare. I've had one every night since we got here. There always about the games...always about losing Imogen. She was beautiful but she didn't know I cared about her like that. I intended it to stay that way. Better not to get in her way or that Hunter boy. I fumbled around in the dark, my clock read three thirty AM. I dragged myself out of bed and into the food hall. I knew I wouldn't be sleeping again tonight. I looked around at the table, it had been completely cleared even the table cloth was gone. I sat down on the couch, was it worth to put on the TV? Or would it wake up Imogen. Suddenly I heard crashing sounds in Imogen's room and a voice cursing. The door creaked open and Imogen walked out in her pyjamas. They were stripy and she looked pretty cute. She saw me sitting on the couch and nearly screamed in shock.
"Can't sleep?" I asked patting the couch. She sat down obediently.
"I am worried for the interviews tomorrow. I don't know how to get people to like me," she said biting her nails. A bad habit she had picked up from her mother.

I stared at her unbelievable. We were competing in a killing game and she was worried about an interview. I shook my head laughing.
"Your not worried for the games?" I asked. She smiled.
"Of course I am! But you know I don't want to think about it," she said with a very sad smile. I knew she hated the idea of the games, killing innocent people. I did too of course. But there was no way anyone would dare rebel again.
"Are you going to join the career pack?" she asked quietly. My body stiffens, I had thought about that a lot over the training days.
"I am not sure. Probably, I will see what Harry has to say," I reply. She sighs.
"I already said yes to the District 2 girl Carta. I think it would be better to not be on her death list," she explains and I realise she has a point. We huddle in the dark together until we both fall asleep. My chin on her head and her head on my chest.

Imogen's P.O.V

I wake up to see Luke's arms wrapped around me. My first thought is about Hunter. I slip away from his grip awakening him with a start. I walk into my room and put on some simple clothes. Daniel and his gang were going to give me another make over anyway. My stomach sinked at the thought of the interviews and I didn't eat much.
"Be strong and bold. Be yourself mainly," Harry explained. It didn't give me much help but I think Caesar will take the lead if I struggle. He usually did for the past tributes. Luke and I made our way to the make up stations, I said goodbye opening the curtain to find Maria, Oliver and Crystal already there. They repeated what they did on the parade day, waxing and making me "shine." Soon Daniel was standing over me. I grinned at his excited smile.
"Are we going to repeat the fireworks?" I joked. He laughed and muttered.
"Something like that."

Soon we were finished with the make up. The black eye liner surrounded my eyes and made the blue orbs stand out. He put on mascara and gold eye shadow. He decided he didn't want to put any lip stick or concealer on. He kept saying "It's better to be the most you that you can be."
He made me close my eyes again and helped me put on my dress. I grinned as I saw it in the mirror. This dress was gold and glittering. It was flowing and so long that it swiped the ground as I walked.
"You look beautiful!" Daniel exclaimed wiping away tears from his eyes.
"I want to leave your hair out, in it's natural way," he said. I nodded. Suddenly Daniel was standing behind me and was setting something around my neck. It was a locket with a heart. I opened it and nearly cried to see a picture of my family. I was about to ask him when he interrupted.
"Don't ask how but I want you to have it. Keep it with you through your time in the arena, keep your family close," he said. I hugged him tightly and tried not to cry. I thanked him over and over. We walked out of the station hand in hand.

Everyone looked really fancy and nice. The girls wearing beautiful dresses and the boys matching suits. I couldn't see Luke anywhere and we were beginning to line up. Hunter walked over, wearing a suit. His hair was slicked back and his usual smirk was plastered on his face.
"Good luck," he whispered kissing me. I smiled and pulled away.
"Don't mess up the make up, we're about to start!" I joked. Suddenly I caught someone watching me, Sasha Hunter's district partner. She was glaring at me obviously jealous. I heard a booming voice and realised Caesar was up on stage. The crowd cheered and the butterflies in my stomach did cartwheels. Suddenly Luke was standing behind me panting. He had obviously been running. He whispered good luck and Caesar announced my name.

I walked nervously to the couch on the middle of the stage. The spot light was beating down on me and I could barely see. Caesar helped me too my seat.
"You look stunning today Miss Imogen!" he complimented. I flashing him a smile and spun around, showing off to the crowd. Everyone cheered and whooped. I laughed as I sat back down.
"So that was quite a performance at the parade and not to mention your training score!" Caesar said excitedly. The crowd cheered again and I began to talk.
"Well the parade was amazing. The Capitol people really have a way of making everything beautiful," I said complimenting the crowd. Earning points for being nice.
"I am extremely proud of my training score and I know I am prepared for the arena," I said more confidently than I felt.
"So tell us, what did you do in that training hall to make you so special?" he asked eagerly.
"Great magicians never tell there secrets," I whisper making the crowd erupt with laughter.
"I am sure you will win the games with just your charm. Everybody this is Imogen Henderson!" he cried. Everyone exploded in the crowd, cheering excitedly. I cowed and spun around again. This time though silver confetti pieces fell from the roof surrounding me. The crowd cheered louder and I saw Daniel wink in the crowd. I hurried of stage, giving Luke a high five.

Luke's P.O.V

Imogen was stunning on stage, absolutely perfect. She looked pretty and she said all the right things. My idea at the end really set off the crowd. I heard Caesar announce my name and I walked on proudly. We talked a lot about my skills and abilities, gaining a few oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Then Caesar smirked and asked.
"Are there any ladies back home?" I laughed. Typical question for a killing game I though sarcastically.
"Not really," I replied.
"I don't believe you. You would be breaking girls hearts everywhere," he exclaimed getting a cheer from the crowd. I blushed slightly but couldn't bring myself to say anything. The crowd stared expectingly.
"Well there's this girl I've known forever but she's taken at the moment," I explained. Hopefully no one could guess it was Imogen. Caesar was about to continue when a bell rang out across the stage.
"I guess times up, lucky for you Luke! Anyway here he is ladies and gentlemen." Caesar boomed and I got up. Striking a pose that showed off my muscles. Every laughed and I left the stage.

The rest of the interviews went by quickly and no one got a bigger applaud then Imogen. Which made me feel happy to see the smile on her face. Hunter's interview was half about Imogen and their "relationship." It had ended quite awkward when Caesar had said "but only one can win." I stifled a laugh and ran back to my room.
