Annie’s POV

I hadn’t fully unpacked from when we left Doncaster, so I quickly packed what else I had. I didn’t have to go to school the next day, so that was good.  I knew the teasing and bullying would be relentless if I went.  My phone rang, and I glanced at the screen. Harry.  I pressed decline, and tossed it on my desk, climbing on the bed to reach my The Fray poster that was on my ceiling.  My dad walked into my room, holding the phone. “Hey, Ann. Harry’s on the phone.”

“I’m not home.” I grunted, holding a piece of tape between my teeth. Dad put the phone to his ear.

“He said you can either talk to him in person or you can talk to him on the phone.” I sighed, and grabbed the phone. Dad left, closing the door behind him.

“What?” I snapped, cradling the phone between my shoulder and ear.

“Annie! You weren’t in school today…are you okay? Are you sick?”

“Oh, so now you care?”

“Annie… I always care about you.” I sighed.

“Harry, please stop calling me. Stop texting me, Tweeting me, Facebooking me, asking to Skype with me… Just leave me alone. Stay out of my life, all right?”

“Annie, please just let me explain.”

“Goodbye, Harry.” I hung up and let the phone fall on the bed. I sighed. “Dad!” I called. “I’m going to go take Danny out for ice cream.”

“Okay, sweetie.”

Harry’s POV

I sighed as I knocked on Annie’s door. She was going to kill me when she found out. Mr. Jenkins answered the door. “Hey, Mr. Jenkins!” I said. “Is Annie here?”

“No, she took Danny out for ice cream…She should be back soon though. Come on in.” Mr. Jenkins let me in. I glanced around. All the pictures were off the walls, and there were boxes on the floor. They must be remodeling or something. “Is everything all right between you and Annie?” Mr. Jenkins asked.

“Why do you ask?” I looked at the ground.

“Because she refuses to talk to you.”

“We sort of had a fight.” I sighed.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Annie’s dad put a hand on my shoulder. I took a deep breath.

“Annie told me about how she killed her mum, and she made me promise not to tell anyone, and I didn’t, but then Allie from school found out, and she blackmailed me so she wouldn’t tell anyone what happened, and then I ran out of money, and she told everyone what happened, and Annie thinks I told her, and I didn’t, and she won’t listen to me and let me explain!” That was probably the fastest I've ever spoken in my life. Mr. Jenkins’ jaw dropped.

“W-what about her and her mum?”

“She killed her cuz she accidently shoved her…” I looked down.

“Does Annie think that?” He whispered. “She didn’t kill her mum. That’s not how she died.”
