20. What Do I Do Now?

Harry’s POV

Okay, mate, you have some explaining to do.” Louis sat in front of me as I slouched in the back in the nearby Starbucks restaurant. The other boys surrounded me.

“There’s nothing to explain.” I said woodenly. “Annie’s gone. I lost her.”

“What happened?” Liam asked.

“Something personal.”

“Did you tell Allie that ‘something personal’?” Zayn folded his arms.

“I would never do that willingly!”

“But unwillingly?” Niall asked. I took a deep breath. “Harry, what happened?” Niall asked gently.

“A couple months ago, Annie told me something that she had never told anyone else. We were in the park, and apparently Allie overheard us. She’s been blackmailing me not to tell for…about three months now. She said she would tell everyone if I didn’t pay her a certain amount of money per month.”

“How much?” Liam growled. I looked down.

“Fifty pounds a month.” Everyone gasped.

“Harry! You didn’t—“ Louis started, but I interrupted.

“I did!” I snapped. “I couldn’t let Annie’s secret get out! But I ran out of money, and she threatened to tell! I told her I just didn’t have enough money, and then…well, you know the rest.” We all were silent, and then Louis sighed.

“Well…when you get into a mess, Haz, you really get into a mess.”

“Tell me about it.” I sighed and raked my hands through my hair. “I don’t know what to do, lads. I really like Annie…but I don’t think that she even wants to be my friend anymore.” I set my head in my hands. “Everything is falling apart…And I don’t think I can fix it this time.” Liam patted my back.

“It’ll be okay. Everything will work out.”

“You have to tell her, mate.” Zayn said.

“Yeah…You're right.” I sighed. Maybe that will change something…”

“No.” Zayn stood. “Like you need to tell her now. As in get your sorry bum off this seat, and go over to her house right now and talk to her.”

“I will. Tomorrow, though. She’s too mad at me today. I’ll tell her tomorrow at school.” The boys groaned.

“What are you waiting for, Harry?” Louis chimed in. “A special invitation? Go! Get your woman! Proclaim your undying love for her, sweep her into your arms, and carry her off into the sunset on a shining stallion!” He swept his arms up dramatically. Everyone stared at him.

“Your mom made you watch Love Comes Softly again last night, didn’t she?” Liam asked dryly.

“No, Leeyum, I watched it on my own.” Louis said sarcastically.

“I was just asking.” Liam pushed Louis’ shoulder.

“I was just saying.” Louis shoved Liam back. I sat back in my chair.

“So, what about Liv, you guys?” Liam asked. Louis immediately looked down at the table and fiddled with his fingers.

“What about her?” Zayn asked.

“Do you guys like her?”

“She seems okay!” Niall said. “Hannah seems to like her.”

“So if Hannah likes her, she’s okay?” Zayn teased. Niall shoved Zayn.

“What about you, Harry?” Liam asked.

“Well, I didn’t really get to officially meet her.” I shrugged, and looked at my coffee. “But her first impression was good.”

“Louis?” Liam turned to the other boy, but Louis was texting on his phone and picking at a crack in the wooden table. “Looooooouuuuuiiiiisssss…” Liam sing-songed, but Louis still just tapped away on his phone. “LOUIS!”

“What?” Louis jumped, dropping his phone on the table, and wincing as it crashed. Liam scooped it up, and Louis jumped for it. “Give it back, Liam!”

“Nah, I want to see what you were doing…” Liam looked at the phone. “Who the heck is Livy-Boo—wait a second.” Louis gulped and Liam glared at Louis. “This is Liv’s number.” Louis blushed, and Zayn nudged me. Pushing Annie to the back of my mind for only a moment, I grinned, and leaned forward. This was going to be good.

“Um…yeah.” Louis reached for the phone, but Liam held it out of reach.

“I told you she’s too young for you, Louis!” Liam growled.

“First of all, she’s sixteen, and I’m seventeen. I’m not that much older than her. And secondly, we’re just talking! Two friends talking. On the phone.” Louis reached for it again, and Liam pushed him back.

“Stay away from Olivia, Louis William Tomlinson.” Liam hissed.

“Come over to my house and make me, Liam James Payne.” Louis sassed back. Niall and I exchanged glances, and Zayn cleared his throat.

“Lads. She’s coming.”

“Hey, guys!” Olivia appeared at the table. She smiled at everyone, then blushed when Louis smiled back.

“Liv! What are you doing here?” Niall asked.

“I just was getting some coffee, and needed to talk to my cuz. LiLi, do you think that you can take me back to my house when you're done here?” She directed her attention to a silently fuming Liam.

“I’m done here.” Liam stood up and bumped Louis’ chair with his hip as he walked by. “Lets go.”

“I wanted to talk to Lou for a second—” Olivia objected, but Liam gave her a look.

“Lets go.” He started walking out, and Olivia turned around, and mouthed text me to Louis. He nodded, then Olivia waved to the rest of us, and walked out with her cousin. We all grinned at Louis, who blushed.

“What are you going to say to Annie?” Niall asked me, changing the subject.

“I don’t know, mate.” I sighed. “I just don’t know.”
