Coming Home

Maria is the kind of girl who's known. Not in a slutty way, but because of her strength. Her dad died in the military and now her boyfriend is there. The only thing keeping her alive is her brother, Alex.

2. ~chapter two~

I sat by myself like every day at 6:00 pm and ate dinner by myself as my boyfriend is somewhere across the country, fighting for me. A long distance relationship has been hard. I don't like the ides of it, and I swore to myself I'd never do it. But hey, I met Liam, and I had to deal with his baggage which consisted of being in the military. He's the sweetest person ever. It's scary to think that he's out there.... In the burning hot or freezing cold killing people. There's always a thought in the back of my mind that he won't be coming home. As much as I hate it, it's always there. Just like it was with my dad.

I strained the noodles of their water, and but it in a new bowl. I got my sauce from the jar and put it in the bowl along with my warm noodles. Putting some on my plate, I sat at the old wooden table, as my dog Manny begged for some. I refused of course, and ate it all up. After, I did my dishes, got a shower and watched TV just like I did every night. I was in my own little world watching the Aristocats, when a piercing ring filled the room: Hailey. Right on cue. Calling every night at about 8. W just sat and gossiped. We've been best friends ever since 6th grade. We had endless sleepovers, but that stopped happening after she moved and had her baby, Damon Anthony Milio. Her baby's father isn't really in his or her life. I don't know why, he's just a drunken idiot. She's a very good mom though. 19 wasn't really her ideal age to have a baby, but she's loves him more than anything and so do I.

"So when's Liam coming home again? I need to send out the invitations."

"Uh, the 23rd? I think. One sec, lemme check....Yeah the 23rd." I smiled.

"Cool, I'm really excited. This party will be fun." I could tell she was smiling, too.

"Yeah, well I have to feed Manny, then i'm going to bed. I'll see you guys tomorrow?" I was hopeful for a yes.

"Uh, yeah sure. See you then. Bye" *beeeeeeeeeeep*

Hailey and I decided to go decoration shopping. We got a bunch of things. Mainly army prints and fake grenades, and such. He was deployed in Korea. And I lived in good ol' Pennsylvania. Pretty far, if you ask me. Hailey dropped me off at my plac then drove off because it was pretty late and Damon needed to get to sleep. I opened all of the decorations, and excitement filled my body. But one thing. One thing got my attention. I did all of this for my father. But he didn't come home, he went home. I just hope things will be different this time.
