4. How can I hurt, if I don't feel pain?

The next day, I woke up, unfortunately. I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, I was a mess. My face still swollen and bruised. I grabbed the mirror and took it to my bedroom. I got changed, did my hair, put make up on to try and make myself look as presentable as possible. Don't know why I bothered though, I wasn't trying to impress anyone.

I got changed into my school clothes as fast as I could but that was difficult considering my limbs were stiff and sore. Making sure I had put on my long sleeved shirt, I buttoned it up, grabbed my stuff and set off for school. Opening my bedroom door, I heard my mum and my dad shouting and things were getting thrown. I tried my best to sneak past them but my dad spotted me.

"Where do you think you're going you little shit?!"

"...School"

"Come here, COME HERE!" He screamed at me

I slowly walked over, frightened to death.

He grabbed me by the hair and slammed my head against the wall.

I screamed out in agony.

"WHY ARE YOU ON THE FLOOR? GET THE FUCK UP NOW"

I tried to get up but he kneed me in the face and I fell to the floor, curling up in a ball trying to protect myself.

They kept on going and going, kicking me, throwing objects at me like glass that'd shatter into a million pieces at the moment of contact. They didn't stop. They wouldn't stop. The couldn't stop. I could tell they were getting carried away, the adrenalin rushed through their body as they beat me up. How sick is that? They actually get a thrill out of beating up their own kid! I don't care if they're out of their mind on drugs and pissed out their head, there should still be some sort of parental instinct... shouldn't there?

After crying out in pain for over twenty minutes, they eventually stopped. Going back to the needle and the bottle. I struggled to get up, failing three times but successfully getting up on the fourth. I walked out the door, clutching my side. Again, walking to school, the headphones were in, music up as loud as it could go and the world was out. I got half way to school and just stood there, watched the world go by and just sighed. Everything went in fast forward, people rushing about doing their shopping, cars going speeding by, the occasional dog walker and all the birds. It was just so peaceful... until I snapped back into reality. Car tires screeching, horns honking and angry drivers shouting and swearing at me, I never even realised I was in the middle of the road. I rushed along, ignoring the pain and just getting to school as fast as I could. I stood at the school gates, deciding if I should even dare to show my face or not after what happened the day before. I bit my tongue and in I went, not baring to think about what lay ahead.
