DELILAH *Sequel*

I guess I'm not the daughter that they expected to have. Oh well.
My mother (the only person in this world that defends me) was diagnosed with lung cancer just a few months ago, and none of us even want to think about how much longer she has. My older sister, Minnie, just went off to college, and without daddy's little princess in the house, he gets mad about everything and anything. He hates the love of my life, my friends, my job and all the other things in my life that I love.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, my father is Harry Styles... Right?

Part II to MINNIE (A Harry Styles Fan-fiction)

21. Twenty One

Since we got home, Mom has picked up the pace. Making calls and scurrying all around to make any kind of arrangements to get Dad home instead of working in slow motion like a numb zombie. Zayn has been here all day helping, and Minnie and I have been cleaning up the aftermath of the new years party. I can't help but stop what I'm doing when I here the engine of a motorcycle near from the open window. The front door is open, so Kevin doesn't bothering ringing before walking in through the clear screen door. "Hey, Dee." He kisses me once, quickly, too quickly that I barely felt it. I go for another one, and he gladly grants it. "How you guys doin?"

"Alright. My dad's in jail." I sigh, rubbing one eye with my knuckles while Kevin gets a piece of hair out of my face.

"I heard. I went to Louis' house and he told me you were here. And he told me what happened."

"My mom and Zayn are trying to get him out."

"It shouldn't be that hard, he didn't do anything wrong."

"He fired a weapon."

"But it wasn't his weapon."

"Listen, Kevin I don't know the technicalities of it. I just know that he's stuck in there for the night and they're doing everything they can to get him out." I say, frustrated.

"Okay, okay." He leans in to hug me, the embrace I've been craving. I breathe out some relief as my boyfriend rubs my back. "Do you wanna go get some ice cream?"

"Do you want to help me clean?" I ask sarcastically, smirking.

"Come on, Dee. Chocolate waffle cone, your favorite." He snuggles into my neck, his breath tickling me enough for me to jerk back with a giggle.

"No, I have to clean." I take a wack at him with my dish towel, then begin to walk away to retrieve some polishing spray for the cabinets. "Stay a while. Grab a trash bag." I smile, and he rolls his eyes playfully before beginning to clean with us.

When we're all done, I find myself in one of my favorite places in the world. On the back on Kevin's bike, holding onto him for dear life. His leather jacket sticks to my cheek while I shut my eyes and feel the wind. I remind myself that this will all be over soon. Things will go back to normal, if not better than they were. My dad and I have mended our rocky relationship, which is something that I've wanted for months, years even. He finally approves of Kevin, too. Major bonus. Plus, Minnie and I just might find that closeness again that we once had.

I sigh contently against Kevin's back as the motorcycle comes to a stop in front of our ice cream spot. We eat our chocolate waffle cones under the neon lights in tiny plastic kiddy chairs outside of the parked ice cream truck. I laugh until it hurts when his chair breaks and he falls back into the dirt, ice cream smeared all over his face. I have to hold my stomach. He laughs too, wiping his face after stadning up straight. Now he's looking down at my chuckling body. "God, I love to see you laughing again." I get bashful immediately at his words, looking down with a big smile.

I finish my ice cream cone during the ride home, still thinking about Kevin's fall to keep my mind occupied from wandering to the dark side again. A grin remains on my face, even when I get off the bike. "Love you, Dee." He kisses me nicely.

"Thank you for the escape. I needed it." I squeeze his arm. "I love you too."

I walk into the house to find Zayn passed out on the couch, snuggling with a square throw pillow. I tiptoe up the stairs to my room. Its looks really dark and cold in there, so I change into my favorite pajamas before going into Minnie's room. In the hall, I can hear Mom still talking on the phone about my dad, maybe to a detective or something.

Minnie is staring at the ceiling when I get in. She sees me, and scoots over so I have an opening. Her bed is warm, and the moonlight is pouring into her room. I get under the covers and face her with my cheek rested on one of her cool pillows. She turns her body and does the same. We both sigh, staring at each other without a word until we fall asleep.

When the sunlight that used to been moonlight spills way too brightly into Minnie's room, I squint and wrinkle my nose at the smell of strong coffee. That's only when Mom is really tired. She must have been up all night. My sister is sound asleep beside me, but I wake her up with no intention when I sit up. The springs in her bed are squeaky and old. She hasn't slept over once since she left for college, so this room has surely been abandoned. She sits up like me, stretching and groaning while I yawn. I smile at her small, a little boost to get us both out of bed. It's probably early, but it's better to get our day started anyway. I stand up and get a pair of socks out of her top drawer. The floor is always freezing in the morning. Minnie puts on her hoodie and we walk down the stairs like zombies together. I hear her gasp but I'm still half asleep.

But I'm jolted awake when I see Dad sitting at his chair, a cup of tea by his side and reading the paper with just one hand.
