Long Lost Twin

My name is Lizzie, my Mum recently died from cancer so I was forced to live with my aunt. That also meant moving schools and making new friends. I did have a Dad but I never knew him. Mum did, they split when I was born. He took my twin and Mum took me.

22. Chapter 22: A Week With Louis

Louis smiled at me then looked at my arms. Had Liam told them? Is that why Jazzmin owned up?

“Is it true?” He asked. Yup, I was gonna have to kill Liam later. I nodded and looked away. I couldn’t look into his eyes. I felt embarrassed. I was scared he would just dump me and call me an emo, even though I’m far from emo.

Louis reached for my arms but I stepped back. What would he do if he saw? Would he run screaming? Would he turn against me?

“I want to see. I want to help.” Louis whispered. I looked at him; his eyes were full of concern and worry. I let him take my arm carefully. He pulled up my sleeve carefully. His mouth fell open as he took in my arm. I had to admit that my arm looked similar to minced meat, but hey, I was drunk and depressed. “Why did you do this to yourself?”

“I didn’t do it on purpose. I got drunk.” I whispered. “Plus I couldn’t take any more pain.”

“This is because of Jazzmin isn’t it?” He asked. He looked me in the eye and waited for me to respond. I nodded quickly. “How did you do this without Jenny knowing?”

“She’s out. She’s not back until the end of next week.” I mumbled.

“Okay. Until she’s back you’re staying with me.” Louis instructed.

“Okay.” I mumbled. He pulled me into a hug.

I had everything I needed for a week packed in my bag. I left a note on the side in case Jenny returned before Saturday.

“Ready?” Louis asked and I nodded. I didn’t want to stay with him, but I didn’t want to argue.

We walked out to Louis’ car and he put my bags in the back. I climbed into the passenger side and he climbed into the drivers’ side.

“Would your parents mind?” I asked him. He shook his head.

“Nope, not at all,” He replied. “I text them saying you were staying round. My mum said it was fine as long as you stayed in the guest room.”

“Okay.” I said as I looked out of the window. I felt like I was intruding. When we arrived, I noticed the house looked like any house around here. Built with bricks and a small front garden, it also looked small from the outside.

Louis helped me carry my stuff inside and put it in the guest room, his parents were still at work at the moment but they would be back in an hour. Luckily the room I was staying in was next door to Louis’ so I didn’t have far to walk if I needed something.

The room was very plain, I only noticed this when Louis left me to unpack. The walls were pained cream. There was a wooden desk next to the window and drawers were next to the desk. The bed sat comfortably in the middle of the room with plain white sheets on. I presumed they always kept the bed made.

I unpacked my clothes into the drawers but left everything else in the bags and pushed them into the corner. I didn’t have any homework, of course, so I pulled out my laptop and plugged it in. I put the laptop on the desk then left the room.

I knocked on Louis’ bedroom door and I heard him walk towards the door. He opened it and smiled at me.

“Is everything okay?” He asked.

“Yeah, are you sure I can stay here?” I asked just to double check. I didn’t want his parents to come home to a surprise.

“I’m sure. What do you want to do?” He asked me.

“I don’t mind. Don’t you have any homework?” I asked him.

“I can do that later when you’re asleep.” He said. I nodded. He took my hand and led me downstairs. He took me into the lounge and we sat down on the sofa.

“Seriously? TV? Can’t you come up with anything else better to do?” I asked. Louis smiled at me as he leaned closer to me. He crushed his lips on mine and I kissed him back. I wrapped my arms around his neck. It was definitely awkward kissing on a sofa. I heard the front door open and I pulled away quickly.

“Hi, Louis!” A female voice called out, his mum probably. She walked into the lounge. It was weird seeing her again. “Oh hi.”

“Hi,” I replied.

“Louis, one word, please.” She ordered and he shot me an apologetic look. Shit. I wasn’t welcome at all.

Five minutes passed and Louis walked back into the room. He sat back down next to me.

“Sorry about that. She knows you’re staying here, she just wanted to make sure you’re staying in the spare room.” Louis apologised.

“It’s okay. Are you sure?” I asked. I was really scared I wasn’t welcome here.

“I’m sure.” He replied.

I sat at the desk in my pyjamas. Louis’ mum was a great cook. I shut down my laptop and closed the screen. I then switched the light out and climbed into bed.

After an hour of just lying there, I crawled out of bed and left my room quietly. It was only ten o’clock, but the house was quiet. I’m sure Louis’ parents have gone to bed. I knocked on Louis’ bedroom door.

“Come in.” He called out and I opened the door. I walked into the room and shut the door behind me.

“I can’t sleep.” I told him. He moved to the side of his bed.

“Come sleep with me.” He offered. I nodded and slid into the bed next to him. He wrapped his arms around me and I immediately feel safe. “Why can’t you sleep?”

“Nightmares,” I whispered. “I have them every night.”

“Is it because of what happened?” Louis asked and I nodded. “I promise I will keep the nightmares away.”

I shut my eyes and breathed in. He smelled really, really nice, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what he smelt like though which bugged me.

I woke up to bright day light, it was Saturday, and I could sleep in. I couldn’t deny that that was the best sleep I have had in ages. I didn’t have a single bad dream. Louis kept his promise; he kept the bad dreams away. I looked up at Louis’ face, his eyes were still close. He looked peaceful in his sleep; I didn’t want to disturb him so I shut my eyes and tried to fall back to sleep again.

“Nothing happened, Mum.” I heard Louis yell. I opened my eyes and saw Louis was gone.

“Then why were you sharing a bed?” His Mum asked.

“She couldn’t sleep.” Louis snapped. “She has nightmares.”

“Are you sure that’s not just an excuse for her to share a bed with you?”

“I’m sure. She got stabbed remember? Of course she’s gonna get nightmares.” Louis then stormed into the room and slammed the bedroom door. “Sorry if we woke you up.”

“It’s fine.” I grumbled. I sat up. “I’m sorry if I got you into any trouble.”

“It’s fine. It’s just we have only known each other since September. My mum thought we were rushing into things.” He replied with a chuckle. He sat next to me on his bed.

“You kept the bad dreams away.” I told him and smiled.

“I told you I would.” He replied and kissed my forehead.
