6. Chapter 5

"Again, I'm sorry I stabbed you. I didn't know what I was thinking." Audrey said as she stepped into Justin's room and closed the door behind her. She looked around and even though she wanted to look at Justin, she couldn't help herself. She hadn't been in this room in a long time.

Justin shrugged. "It hurt but it's fine." he held a hand to his chest. "I should be sorry for calling you pathetic. I was mad and I wasn't thinking either. You aren't pathetic."

Audrey leaned against the door. "Maybe I just needed a reminder that I'll never be good enough. Now we know I at least have some motivation to stab someone."

"It didn't have to be me, though." Justin said. Audrey glared at him.

"You were the one who called me pathetic!"

Justin rolled his eyes. "Doesn't mean that I deserved to be stabbed!"

"Maybe you did for making me feel like shit!" Audrey yelled, and then realized that they were yelling at each other again, and it wasn't going to get them anywhere. "Sorry," she said softly. "For yelling."

Justin sighed and went over to sit on the bed. He patted the spot next to him and Audrey winced. She didn't know if she should sit next to him or not, but she took a deep breath and went over to sit down anyways. He looked down at the ground.

"Seth told me something when he was cleaning my shoulder up," Justin said. "I mean I'm sure it's pretty obvious but he said that everybody's sick of our fighting and we should work out our problems. And to tell the truth I'm sick of the fighting too."

Audrey nodded. "I know you are." she bit her bottom lip. "I...I am too, I guess."

Justin looked up at her through squinted eyes. "You guess? What is that supposed to mean?"

"I mean," she shifted on the bed. Justin's hand was right there and she wanted to grab it and never let go, but she knew that it couldn't happen. "That I'm tired of it, but we can't just be friends or date or anything like that because I don't want to be your punching bag. You always yell at me when you're mad and I know it's not physical abuse but the mental abuse hurts enough."

"I-" Justin started, but never finished. He kept his head down and didn't make a noise. Audrey glanced over at him for a moment, and then he lifted his head. "I don't know what to say to that."

Audrey looked at him for another moment before she stood up. "Of course you don't. You hate me, and you want me to be your punching bag. Just so you can be around me. Well you know what? I'm done being your freaking punching bag! I don't want to live here anymore, I don't even want to live anymore because of you!"

After Audrey was done, she sunk down onto her knees and started to cry. Justin watched her. He didn't know what he could do without making Audrey flip out, but then again, he didn't really care if she stabbed him again. He couldn't stand to see her falling apart like this, because of him, and he wanted to do something about it. After all, he told himself that he wanted to fix her and now he was the one breaking her.

He quickly got up from the bed and dropped down in front of Audrey. She looked up at him, still crying, and then put her head down again. Justin repositioned himself so he was sitting cross legged and then he brought Audrey up into his lap. She leaned her head into his chest and cried. She didn't care if he was the reason she was crying, she wanted him to be the reason she was happy, too.

"Shh," Justin said as rubbed her back. "It's okay. I'm sorry."

"Why...are...you...touching...me?" Audrey managed to choke out. She tried to move herself off his lap but he wouldn't let her.

"Just be quiet. Let me hug you before you leave. Just so I can know what it's like again, even if it's for a minute."

Audrey sniffled. "Okay."

She was done crying, but she had to admit that she didn't want to move either. Until she realized that Justin's arms around her was wrong. She didn't want to fall again. So, she moved his arms and got up.

"Audrey-"

Audrey walked to the door but didn't turn around to look at him. "No, Justin. You got your minute. And now I hope that you'll stay away from me for as long as possible."

She reached for the door handle only to hear a loud bang from downstairs. Justin immediately got up and rushed over to her. He grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her away from the door, and then he turned to face her.

"Unless you want to die, I hope that you'll stay up here for as long as possible. Then I'll leave you alone, okay?"

Audrey nodded. "What was that, though?"

"Gunshot." he said. "Claire is back and she's brought some buddies."

Audrey groaned and sat down at the end of the bed. "Woohoo."

Justin smiled a little bit and then started to rummage through his drawers until he found his gun. He slipped it into his back pocket and then looked at Audrey.

"Just stay in here, okay?" he said. "I don't want you to get hurt."

She rolled her eyes. "Aw, that's sweet considering I'm perfectly capable of one, hurting myself, and two, defending myself."

Justin set his jaw. "Just. Stay. Here. Got it?" He turned around so his back was facing Audrey and as he grabbed the door handle, she said,

"Wait,"

"What?"

"Come here."

Justin sighed, turned around again, and walked over to stand in front of Audrey. She looked up at him. "I know I just stabbed you in the shoulder for no good reason, but please...please don't let anybody else stab you. I don't want you to die."

He smirked. "Aw, that's sweet considering I'm perfectly capable of defending myself. Though I don't think I'd be capable of hurting myself. That's something only you can do, and I don't want you to do it again."

"I'll try not to." Audrey shrugged. "I guess."

"Good." Justin looked down at her for another moment before he bent down and kissed her on the forehead. "I'll be right back."

And with that, he left.
