One and then Two

An eight year old girl got wings. Now she's fifteen, flying at night for the thrill of it and convinced there's another like her doing the same. On her quest to find them, she must be careful not to reveal what she is.

8. History with Mr Meyers - After the Awfully Embarrassing Daydream

I walked into class, keeping my head low and letting my hair cover much of my face. I slid into my seat next to Fynn and gave him what I hoped to be a cute smile. He grinned back and waved, forcing my stomach to be catapulted out of the universe and back again all in the space of a millisecond. Mr Meyers begun talking about the Ancient Egyptians at the same time that Fynn begun scrawling on a piece of paper. He looked quite focused and I noticed that he stuck the tip of his tongue out while doing it. I was officially obsessed with Fynn Connors.

About three minutes later, when my curiosity had almost killed fifteen cats and burned a hole in my stomach, he slid the piece of paper over to me. Written on it were four words. That was it. What he had been writing for a hundred and eighty seconds I have absolutely no clue.

My heart pretty much melted into a small puddle on the desk right then and there but two things stopped me. The first was that Fynn was staring right at me and the second was that it might be a bother for Mr Meyers to clean up. I forced myself to turn to him calmly and smile with a little nod. He broke out into a smile so wide that I began to smile too and leaned in to whisper something in my ear.

"The first day we met, what I was going to say was that you look quite-" he was cut off by Mr Meyers once again impeccable timing.

"Would you like to share with the class Mr Connors?" he asked.

Fynn kept a straight face as he answered, "No sir, not especially." A giggle came from the back of the class, followed by a rather unladylike snort, causing Mr Meyers to blush a little and angrily turn back to his whiteboard.

Point for Fynn.
