Enter the world of Tye. The Fall has devastated much of the world as we know it but Tye knows nothing else. He and his best friend Eeli are ready to leave their home as soon as they reach thirteen years so that they can be off on their own and be who they want to be and do what they want to do. At last.

Tye and Eeli could never have imagined how dangerous the real world was going to be.

We spend the next coupla days headin back to Croftford, home, Eeli keeps sayin. She’s said it about a hundred times. We’re goin home we’re goin home.

After explainin to Kyan an the people in Camrose that heard the screamin what happened, bandagin the worst of my scratch marks an restin, we was on our way. I dunno if they believed us or not but I don’t care. Wren dint have no one to fite her battle for her an I guess people believed Eeli, or at least dint want to say otherwise, cause she was her own flesh an blood an she teared up when she was tellin ‘em about it. I dunno.

I just know that I can’t ever fink of Wren or Camrose again. I can’t take it. My stomach tenses up an I wanna throw up an drop to my nees an yell. I never meant to kill anyone. I dint want to hurt her. I even told her that.

Not that there was anyfink I could do about that.

The people of Camrose watched us leave. They dint all stand round but I felt eyes all over me. They’ll remember my face an I’m not sure I’m happy bout that.

Eeli nocks on Jax’s door like she’s meetin her best friend. The door’s only bin open a second an she’s in his arms.

“Eeli Star.” He chuckles as he skweezes her back. “I’m glad you two worked everyfin out.”

She lets go an comes to take my hand. “Tye saved me.” She beams every time she says this.

I can only look at my boots hopin at some point in my life she’ll stop sayin it.

Jax invites us in an we sigh as we hit the cushions on his sofa. He gits a bowl of water fer Nimmo whose face lites up like he’s just found an entire chicken all fer him. Jax goes for the whiskey fer us o’course.

I let Eeli spin the tale cause I don’t wanna hear it again, let alone tell it. I just spend a while gazin into her face. It was stoopid of me not to realise how much I’ve loved her. It weren’t coincidence that I never seen anyone so beautiful. I won’t ever see anyone as beautiful as my Eeli. Cause I don’t want no one else to be mine.

“I realised,” Eeli says an I listen cause I know she’s at the end now. “While I was locked away in that room, that it weren’t the singin that I wanted. Or a mother. Cause I had all that rite there as perfect as it could’a bin but she had to keep me trapped.” She shakes her head. “It weren’t all bad cause I realised what Nico, Reese, Ivan an Adler had bin sayin when we spent the nite under their coverin.” She skweezed my hand. “This is what’s most important.”

I can’t help the grin that shoots up onto my face.

“I know now that yer all I’ve ever needed. I don’t need fame. I don’t even need to sing.” She larfs an the sound gives me butterflies. “I can’t even explain how wonderful I’m feelin rite now.”

Jax nods an sits up. “Perfect. I knew you’d figure it out. So . . .” He claps his hands together. “What’re you gonna do now?”

Eeli looks to me an I look to her.

But before we can answer, Jax speaks again. “Cause Croftford’s felt awful lonely wiffout you two in it an I fink this town’s in need of some permanent entertainment.”

Eeli’s eyes grow wide an she’s hangin off the end of her seat. “What you sayin?”

“I fink Croftford needs you, Star, if yer willin to stay?”

Her face is close to mine in an instant an I can see the blue of her eyes. “Whaddya fink?”

I prod her in the side. “Follow yer dream, stoopid. I ain’t goin nowhere.”
