Escape

Everyone has secrets, behind the closed doors right? Everyone gets the odd bruise now and again, but there's a reason behind Sadie's countless bruises, black eyes and blood. Getting married was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, but it was a sign up. For hell.

As the sun shined nervous giggles came from Sadie, this was it. The day she had been waiting for, and after three months of endless dress picking and planning it was here. Finally. A sigh of relief ran through Sadie as she patiently stood waiting for her dress to be laced up. It still fit. A knock came from the door, as Sadie opened it her father stood in a suit ready to lead her to a white carriage with five matching horses. It was,  beautiful. She stepped outside trying to keep balance in the new shoes she'd just gotten the hang of walking in as her bridesmaids followed each looking as beautiful as the next. She had chosen four bridesmaids, her best friend Kaiyla, her two little sisters Summer and Chloe, as well as her mother. Her white dress floated across the floor as other neighbors took in the sight of the woman that once was a little girl that they saw grow up from the day she was born up until now. Sadie decided the ceremony was just for close friends and family, then for the after party everyone was invited.

When the carriage arrived, Damien smiled to himself. Just four years ago he was a serious heroin addict before he met Sadie. One night in a pub, Stallion's Pub, he got glassed by an angry drunk leaving him with multiple cuts all over him. Sadie took it upon herself to clean Damien up and let him stay for the next few nights as he had nowhere to go. In these next few nights Damien got to know Sadie, as did she and somewhere between them was a connection, a spark that made them one. However Sadie didn't agree with the fact he was an addict, so she refused to go on any form of a date with him til he stopped. So with Sadie's support he went to rehabilitation classes and slowly got off the heroin within the course of a year, during that time it was clear something had to be done about the obvious spark between the two. Both of them decided that they wanted to take things further than an innocent friendship, and so they did. It wasn't long before they were introducing each other to the other's parents showing that it really was serious. So now, four years later they were preparing to commit to each other, to show everyone the love between them and unite in the eyes of the Church.

As soon as Damien set his eyes on Sadie, it reduced him to tears. She looked more and more beautiful each day, and each day he fell in love more with her. Her beautiful blue eyes shined brighter than any time before and her figure danced down the aisle with her dress following the pattern of her walking. Her eye-catching red hair caught the sunlight's attention. Sadie looked down at the floor, blushing as she could see Damien's affectionate stare at her. Her heart beat faster every time she saw him, she knew he was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with and it was perfect. Three and a half years later seemed longer because they shared so many memories, so many tears and smiles. Within fifteen minutes later, they were saying their vows.

Damien spoke softly in a tone that could almost soothe you to sleep on seemingly the worst days of your life pronouncing every word beautifully, 'Today, I promise you this: I will laugh with you in times of joy, and comfort you in times of sorrow. I will share in your dreams and support you as you strive to achieve your goals. I will listen to you with compassion and understanding, and speak to you with encouragement. Together, let us build a home filled with learning, laughter and light, shared freely with all who may live there. Let us be partners, friends and lovers, today and all of the days that follow.'

Now came Sadie's turn, she shyly spoke her words like a song full of meaning and beauty, 'I take you as you are, loving who you are now and who you are yet to become. I promise to listen to you and learn from you, to support you and accept your support. I will celebrate your triumphs and mourn your losses as though they were my own. I will love you and have faith in your love for me, through all our years and all that life may bring us.'

A few people started crying at the sight of such a happy couple.

Little did they know, happiness doesn't always last forever...
