1. Meeting the Gang

As I walked down the block, I couldn't help but feel alone. Completely alone. I was alone in a world where people had friends and family to care for them, meanwhile I have nobody. I feel had for myself. I was lost in thought, walking quietly and quickly down the road to my newest foster home, which, by the way, was located right around the corner from where my parents died. You could possibly guess how much I hated it here. I felt a hard impact followed by someone quickly grab my wrists as my feet slipped on the wet concrete floor. My eyes widened as I was shocked from what just happened. What did happen? I lookes around as if I didn't want someone to notice me. I finally looked up to who was holding my wrists. A tall, tan, muscular dude looked down at me, grinning with a toothpick sticking out from his mouth. My eyes were still wide as I stared intensely into his beautiful hazel eyes. His long shaggy hair fell over his forehead and left eye. "Umm." Was all I could say. "Sorry." He still smiled. "Gotta watch where you're heading. That's Lion's territory by the way. Be careful." He said. I blinked, cluelessly. He sighed and chuckled. "The gang. The new one who tries to be all big and bad. The King's new rivals." He explained. Based on the crown he had tattooed on his forearm, I guessed this guy was a member of the Kings. "Are you..." "King? Yeah. I'm Bulldog by the way." He finally released my wrists to shake my hand. "Andelle but just call me Andy." I said, shaking my hand. "Would you like me to walk you home? Lions have been trying to jump people lately. You'll need my protection." He chuckled. "Umm. Sure. I'd love that." I smiled. He smiled and we started walking to my temporary home. We spent the time talking about where I came from and how my life was. He told me about himself and the Kings. They seem like cool guys. "People think we're convicts," he explained. "They don't take time to get to know us like they should." I knew exactly where he was coming from with that. Except, society sees kids like me as orphaned kids who have no one to be with, which leads to their pity. I don't need anyone's pity. I mean, if they got to know me -- or took time out to attempt to, then maybe things would be different. I don't like being seen as the kid without a home or Kennedy's Charity Case. "Thanks." I smiled as we got to the broken down porch of my foster home. Bulldog smiled and ruffled my hair. "No problem kiddo. I'll come over tomorrow morning and you'll get to meet the guys. They'll love you." He teased. I blushed a little and turned my head. He leaned in and pecked my cheek. "You're so adorable." He teased. Ummm. Okay? "Thanks. Bye." I waved and slid inside the house and slowly and quietly closed the door. I ran to my room and changed into my pajamas. I checked the time. 8:47. Might as well go to bed now. I shrugged and hopped in bed. Finally a chance to make friends. *Next Day* I woke up at 7:50. I grabbed clothes and showered, washing my hair as well. I brushed my teeth and fixed my hair into a high ponytail with a small braid. I devoured the bowl of Capt'n Crunch Cereal that I made and grabbed a pair of keys and an apple for Bulldog incase he was hungry. A rough knock on the door was heard and I rushed down the flight of six steps and opened the door. Bulldog chuckled. "Happy to see me?" He scoffed. I scoffed. "Yeah. It's the highlight of my morning, ya know?" I sarcastically said. "Ouch. Someone's sassy." He smiled. "Thanks." I obnoxiously smiled. "Now let's go before my foster brother says something." I pushed him off the porch and we started walking together. We were quiet for a few minutes. We walked past many people and some sight for sore eyes, if you know what I mean. Ha! Joking. He played soothing music from artists like Drake and Miguel and even some Latino music, as if we understand. "You're not Spanish?" He asked. I laughed. "Nope." I said, "I have the hair for it though." I smiled and flipped my ponytail. We got to is hangout place just as I finished telling him about my rough life. "Wow, kiddo. You did have it hard. You do need a family." His gloominess quickly turned to excitement. "You'll have one in less than 10 minutes. I promise." He extended his pinky, which I gratefully took and locked with my own. I wanted a family so bad. I REALLY was willing to do whatever it took. Whatever it took. James. Pits. Tigre. Chino. Scooter. Blades. "Guys, this is Andy." Bulldog introduced me last to the guys standing in front of me. "We know you. You live in that foster home with that kid... umm Greg?" Chino asked. I nodded and smiled. "Why're you there?" He asked. I looked down and shrugged. I didn't want to explain the whole situation to them, they'd ask about me parents and that was one story I was not willing, tell. "Does she even talk?" Scooter asked, pointing towards me. Bulldog stopped smiling and looked at me. "Yeah. We talked a whole lot yesterday." He questioned, "You okay, kiddo?" I looked up at his and smiled faintly. He pulled me aside and the guys went to separate conversations. "What's up? You're okay, right?" He asked, worried. I looked at the guys then to my feet. "I'm afraid they'll ask about my parents if I actually answer their questions. Sorry, dude." I bit my lip, a habit I had when I was nervous or guilty. "I'll change the subject of they do. Just smile and get to know them, please. I want you to feel safer and this is a great way and a huge step to that." He smiled. "Please?" I sighed and nodded. "Okay. Fine." I shrugged. He smiled and gave me a huge hug. I giggled and we walked over to the guys, me hiding my small, petite body behind his tall, muscular one. "Is she okay?" Chino asked, unaware of my presence. "Yeah. She's fine." Bulldog said. "More than fine." Scooter bit his lip intimately, unaware of my presence, as was the other guys. "She's hot, dude. Where'd you find her?" Pits asked. "We met in the streets." He said, slightly confused by their tones of voice. "Dude, I hope she's not a prostitute because I'd totally bang her! Just wait til I get her fine self alone with me." James licked his lips. Tigre laughed and gave James a high-five and they goofed around. Tigre mocked a female by moaning and groaning sexually. It really made me feel uncomfortable. I should probably hide somewhere else or just hit it before they realize I was there the whole time but something told me to stay. Blades was the only one, besides Bulldog, who wasn't laughing or smiling and going along with it. Blades wasn't ugly. He was tall and Spanish. I think he was from El Salvador or something. He had a straight hairline and long, black hair that he kept in a ponytail in the back of his head. It was curly. Very curly. I gasped at their words and immaturity. The way they acted made me feel a complete opposite from safe. "Guys!" Bulldog's seriousness in his tone made him seem ferocious. They stopped talking and looked at his face. "Stop making her feel uncomfortable." He demanded. Did he feel me tense up? "What are you chatting about? She ain't even here!" Chino laughed. "Oh?" Bulldog scoffed. He stepped aside, revealing my small body. I quickly hid my face and bit my lip. "Oh gosh! I'm so sorry!" Tigre apologized quickly. I wanted to cry so bad but didn't want to feel or look prissy in front of those guys. Bulldog saw how uncomfortable I was and wrapped his arms around me, firmly and protectively. "I didn't mean it. I promise." James tried to apologize for his words. Tigre nodded and agreed with James. "I didn't mean it either." "I guess." I mumbled. Blade came and stood behind me, wrapping his arms around me firmly, replacing Bulldog's and he whispered in my ear. "Lo siento." He whispered. "Por que?" I asked. "Los acciones de mis amigos." "Hablas ingles?" I asked. "Si, pero no se hablan español. I nodded. He smiled and steppes back. "Bulldog, I think Blade's trying to take your girl." Chino said. He really got on my nerves. I think he was so annoying! I don't see why they call him Chino. He doesn't look anything like a Chinese guy. "Shut up!" Blade said, still wrapping me in a warm embrace. I blushed faintly and looked down to my feet. "Dude!" Blade said. "What?" I looked back up. Blade glanced at me, symbolling how he saw my blush. I felt embarrassed. I got loose from Blade and ran past Bulldog. I didn't want to be anymore embarrassed than I already was. I ran for blocks. Past parks, pools, houses, a school, and a deli. I finally stopped and hid in the dark alley next to the deli. Luckily I could see. The sun was so high up, it was probably noon. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I checked it. *Bulldog* I sighed and shoved it back in my pocket. I didn't want to answer him. I slid my back down the brick wall and mumbled words into the air. Worthless. Stupid. Disgrace. Murderer. All things I knew I was. I watched my parents die for Pete's sake! I should've helped them! I should've been a good daughter instead of a bad one! No wonder I'm steady being hopped from home to home. Who'd want a killer? I sighed and dropped my head. I cried silently into my knees and wrapped my arms around them. Hopefully, they wouldn't find me. After what seemed like forever, I finally stood from my uncomfortable position and stretched my body, allowing blood to rush throughout my body an to my numbed legs. I felt my stomach growl so i decided to get pizza from Joe's Pizzaria around the corner. "Can I have two slices of cheese and pepperoni pizza, please?" I asked. "Both with pepperoni?" The guy asked. "No. One pepperoni. One plain." I explained. "Okay. It'll be ready, soon." He said. I smiled and went to the sitting area. I guess it was a slow day because not many people were there besides me and a family sitting and watching the TV hung on the wall. I sighed and waited patiently for my food. "Ma'am." The pizza guy called me. "That'll be $2.50" he said. I nodded and went through my wallet. I had no money at all. What to do? "Umm. Can I have another plate just in case?" I asked. "Sure." he smiled. Aww. The old man was so innocent. I almost felt bad about what I was about to do. "Here you go. $2.50." He insisted on getting paid. I placed the other plate on top, covering my food, and smiled. "Bye." I ran out the store quickly. "FRANKIE! GET HER!" he yelled to the young, muscular guy who swept the concrete outside. I glided past his arm and ran down the block full speed. I ran across the street and quicklu and swiftly dodged the cars driving past. Apparently, so did Frankie. I held tightly to my phone in one hand and my food in the other. I know. 'Why didn't she just go home and eat?' Or 'Why did she go when she knew she had no money?' Well answer is... I don't know myself. "GET BACK HERE!" Frankie yelled in an Italian accent. I panted as I ran down the hill. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Don't stop. Keep going. No jail. Not again. I ran as fast as possible for me. I suddenly stopped, as if on cue as I reached the sight where my mother and father died in a fiery car accident. I widened my eyes and started crying. I didn't even mind being tackled by Frankie, roughly on the concrete ground. I suddenly got angry and was kicking and screaming as he pinned me down, sitting on my crotch to avoid me kneeing his back. He held my hands down and squeezed my wrists tightly. To say I wasn't in pain would be a complete and utter lie. "SOMEBODY HELP ME!" I pleaded. "Shut up!" He demanded and muttered curses under his breath. I screamed louder and louder with each time he squeezed. Some people came outside their houses to see what was going on. One lady actually yelled, "Let go of her!" But it didn't do much. I heard shuffling of feet but couldn't see anything. My eyes got blurred with tears and I closed them. I was lifted and carried by two pairs of hands, then one pair and I smelled a familiar fragrance. My feet hung from the second hand while my back was propped up with the first. I leaned my head on the shoulder of the mystery man and nuzzled onto his neck. Frankie's screams were heard, as was kicking and curse words. I didn't look to see what was happening. I'd possibly regret it. I woke up on a worn out couch with the Kings surrounding me. I sat up and rubbed my neck. "What's this? What happened?" "You were pinned on the floor. We saved you. You're welcome." Chino said. His obnoxious attitude was getting on my nerves. "Blade and Bulldog took turns carrying you here." Scooter added. I nodded and hugged my knees. "Why waste time fighting for a killer?" I asked. They were quiet. "Because we were doing you a favor. Gonna accept it and be grateful or not?" Chino asked. "Okay, can you shut up? You are seriously getting on my last nerves! You always have something to say! Just shut up! Thank you so much for helping me but I think I could make it. Been doing it since I was ten!" I yelled. He shut up and sat down. "She showed you." Tigre laughed with James. "Haha. Yeah! You shut up." James added. "You know, kid. You're alright in my book." Pits laughed. Bulldog came from behind me and lifted me up. He replaced me in the spot I sat in and sat me on his laps. He held me like a football. To say I didn't like the way he and Blades would hold me would ne a total lie. In fact, it made me feel accepted into the group. "So?" I asked, looking around. "Kid. I think you're in the group." James smiled. My jaw dropped and I scoffed out of habit and shock. I smiled cheekily and gave Bulldog, since he was closest to me, a huge bear hug, wrapping my arms around his neck. FINALLY! They accepted me into their gang. Finally! I was accepted into something.
