18. Surprises

Grace's POV

"Avery is Josh's fiance. He got stuck late at a private drum lesson he was teaching, so he asked me to pick her up from the airport," Liam cut in without hesitation.

"Right, I've heard so much about you, Avery!" I put on a fake smile. Why hadn't any of the boys told me Josh was engaged?

"You too!" Avery replied cheerily, in an American accent. "You're Grace, right?"

"That's me," I said. So even she knew who I was. Why had I been kept out of the loop?

"Josh told me all about your songwriting. He says that the album is going to turn out great because of your help."

"Well, that might be a bit of a stretch, but thanks..." I felt myself start to blush; I was horrible at receiving compliments. "Congratulations on your engagement!"

"Thank you sooo much!" She gushed. "We've been together for three years, so when he asked me I had absolutely no doubt in my mind what my answer would be!"

"So when's the wedding?"

"The middle of September. It's back in London."

"Wow! That sounds beautiful."

"I hope so," Avery smiled. "Everyone's invited, all of the boys and their girlfriends, so that means you too! I thought Liam would have told you already."

I was invited to a wedding? In London? HELL YEAH.

"We've been super busy, lately, it must have slipped my mind," Liam chuckled nervously.

"We really haven't been together that long, Li. I understand if you were waiting until we knew each other better." I turned back to Avery. "But thank you so much! I'll have to see how everything works out with my music and stuff, but I really hope I'll be able to come!"

Before Avery could reply, Liam cut in. "Sorry to interrupt, but the car's kinda in a no-parking zone, so we should probably head out..."

"Oops! Of course!" I opened the door to the backseat.

"Grace, do you want the front?" Avery offered.

"That's ok, I'm good back here, but thanks."

We all climbed in the car and drove off. Avery and I chatted about the wedding, and her family and stuff, until we arrived at her building. She was from California, and had a big family, so it was fun to share stories about our crazy siblings. She had gone home to visit for a couple weeks, and wad just returning. Avery seemed really sweet.

Liam pulled up to the curb and Avery hopped out. He offered to help her carry her suitcases, but she politely refused and waved goodbye before disappearing into the complex.

As soon as she was gone, I switched into the front seat and slammed the door as I turned to face Liam.

"LIAM JAMES PAYNE WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT JOSH WAS ENGAGED?!"

He seemed surprised by my yelling, but he replied calmly, "I guess it was something we all new and forgot to fill you in about."

I was about to retaliate with a sarcastic comment, but then I realized that his excuse actually made sense. "Okay, I guess I forgive you. It was a silly mistake." Plus, it was just hard to be mad at Liam when he had those puppy dog eyes bearing into my soul.

"Thanks love," he grinned as he pecked my cheek. "I was going to wait, but since you already know about it, and were technically invited, would you like to come with my to London for the wedding? And some sightseeing..." He grinned.

"Yes yes yes thank you Liam! That would be absolutely amazing," I had a stupid grin on my face that I didn't even try to stop.

"How about we stop for some dinner?" Liam asked. "It's about supper time and I'm hungry."

"Sure! How about we get takeout and go back to my apartment? That way we can just chill."

"Perfect," he replied. "Where do you want to go?"

"Pizza?" I suggested. Nothing could beat good ol' New York pizza.

"Sounds good to me. We can try that place over there." He motioned to a small restaurant a little down the street.

"Anything goes for me," I shrugged. He drove down the street and parked near the pizza parlor.

"I'll run in and get it. Cheese pizza?" He asked me.

"Sure! Thanks babe."

While he entered the restaurant, I pulled out my phone and texted Leah. I hadn't talked to her since the day before, and I wanted to know how everything was going with Harry.

"Huh," I said out loud three minutes later, when she still hasn't replied. It was totally unlike her to not answer her phone. She was basically attached to it.

"Mmmm, yummy," I remarked as Liam returned with the pie. He set it on my lap for me to hold while he drove home. "Hope it's good!" He replied.

About ten minutes later, we pulled up in front of my house. I went into the lobby with the pizza to wait for Liam to finish parking the car. He came I. A few minutes later, and we rode up to my floor in silence. I think we were both too hungry to talk.

"Home at last!" I exclaimed as we stood in front of my door. I handed Liam the pizza as I dug through my bag for the keys. Putting the key in the lock, I twisted it and opened the door. Hearing movement from inside, I walked in hesitantly and turned to the couch area of the room.

"OH MY GAWD OH MY GAWD OH MY GAWD" I exclaimed as I covered my eyes. Harry was lying on top of Leah on the sofa, both of them just their underwear.

"What's the matter babe?" Liam asked from behind me, not yet aware of the situation. He walked into the apartment and took in the scene.

"OH HARRY!" He said, shielding his eyes also.

"Hey guys," Harry grinned cheekily as he looked up, breaking the kiss and acknowledging our presence for the first time. Leah just blushed sheepishly.

"WE ARE NOT SPEAKING TO YOU UNTIL YOU ARE DECENT," I declared loudly, still trying to avoid looking at them.

"Okay," Harry shrugged, and the two went back to their makeout session.

"NO HAZ, I MEAN NOW. YOU HAVE FIVE SECONDS TO GET SOME CLOTHES ON OR I'M GONNA THROW YOU BOTH OUT."

"Okay, okay," He chuckled as he got up and threw on a shirt and shorts. Content that they were listening to my orders, I turned away and let them collect themselves. Liam and I just looked at each other, shaking our heads and exchanging grins. Harry and Leah never failed to surprise us.

"All good!" Leah announced about thirty seconds later.

"Thank you. I appreciate the advance heads-up, 'Hey Grace and Liam, Harry and I are gonna get it on, so would you mind staying out late tonight?'" I replied sarcastically as I started to laugh.

"Sorry Grace, we'll do better next time," Harry said, a cheeky grin on his face.

"Who says there's gonna be a next time?" I gave the boy a stare-down.

"Oh, speaking of apartments, Haz and I went house-hunting this weekend," Leah interrupted Harry and I's silent exchange.

"That's cool. Find anything you like?"

"Yes! Guess who's gonna be your new neighbor?"

"Wild guess... you?" I joked.

"Yup! The apartment across the hall is perfect- it's one bedroom and a tiny kitchen. All I need on my salary."

"Yay Leah! That's great!" I smiled and gave her a hug, but inside I wasn't sure how great an idea this was; I liked my personal space, and this could lead to no privacy... but I couldn't make predictions or judgements until I knew for sure what it would be like having Leah so close.

"So are you guys official yet?" I asked. Leah just kind of shrugged and shook her head.

Harry turned a bright shade of red as he turned to her. "Leah, I've been meaning to ask you this for a while. Would you be my girlfriend?"

"Aww yes Harry! I'd love to! Whoever said peer pressure was bad?" she teased.

"I think that was the cheesiest thing I've ever witnessed, but good job Haz," Liam laughed as he patted Harry on the shoulder.

"I smell food," Harry replied.

"Who are you, Niall?" I joked. "We bought a pizza, but we didn't know we would have company."

"Fine by me. Let's eat!"

We all gathered around the kitchen table and grabbed slices of the pie, eating off of paper plates. Looking at the greasy heaven, I realized that I really didn't need the cheese. It wouldn't be doing my figure any good, so I took it off and put it to the side. As I looked up, I caught Liam giving me a funny look, but he said nothing. Within no time, the four of us were deep in conversation about visiting my family and plans for the album. It was all good.
