11. Surprises

Leah's POV (Something Different!)

A banging noise startled me awake. I shot up in bed, looking around. Where was I? Light streamed through my curtains as I realized that I was at Liam's house, presumingly in a guest bedroom. I never remembered going to be though. Hmmm... and Harry himself was nowhere to be found.

As I put my feet down on the ground, I noticed that I was in the same clothes as the night before. Oops. I made my way to the door and into the hallway, where the smell of something cooking led me into the kitchen. Harry stood at the stove, making something in a frying pan. He looked up when he saw me, a grin spreading across his face.

"Hey babe, I'm making eggs. Want some?"

"Sure! They smell good." I was ravenous.

"So how did you sleep?" Harry continued, serving two plates and handing me one as he sat across from me at the island.

"Like a rock. Did you carry me to the spare room?" My cheeks turned red at the thought of being passed out in Harry's arms.

"Yup. You fell asleep during the movie last night."

"Well, thanks. You could have just left me on the couch you know."

Harry shrugged. "A girl like you deserves sleep on something better than that thing."

The blush that had just started to leave my face came back. "I don't know what to say to that..." I replied cautiously, eying him. He was such a flirt.

Harry smirked. "Like your eggs?"

"Fantastic. Your mom must be quite the cook for you to learn from."

He nodded. "Definitely."

"What time are you all due at the studio?" I looked at the clock; it was 7:45.

"Um... 9:00 I think. What are you going to do today?"

"I think I'm going to go shopping. I need some new work clothes. My official start date at the office is Monday."

"Well, it's Friday now, so that's probably a good idea. Want me to drop you off?"

If Harry was willing to drive me, it would save me a subway ride and a whole lot of effort. Plus, it meant spending more time with him. Yeah, I was falling for Harry bad.

"Do you mind?"

"Not at all," He replied. "I'll let you get yourself ready and then we can go."

Grace's POV

I was awakened by the sound of voices down the hall. Realizing that I had stayed the night at Liam's house, I noticed that the room I was in was huge. There was a big flatscreen tv on the wall opposite the bed, and a couple of One Direction album plaques hanging. This must have been his bedroom. I got up and walked towards the kitchen, where Harry and Leah were giggling. The room was a mess-the wrappers and such from the night before were still all over the counter and floor, and there were dirty breakfast plates in the sink. And the two were literally about to walk out the door.

"Where do you two think you're going?" I asked, approaching them with my arms crossed.

"Uh, shopping," Harry replied, attempting to get out the door without further conversation.

'You're not going anywhere until you make this kitchen spotless." I had no interest in spending the morning cleaning up their mess.

"Fine," Leah said. She knew I meant business.

I smirked and took a seat, watching as Leah and Harry attempted to make some order of the chaos.

"Oh, where's Liam, by the way?" Here I was in his house, and the boy was nowhere to be found.

Harry turned his head towards me as he wiped the countertop. "Liam said he had some errands to run, but he would be back before it's time for studio."

"Okay," I replied, getting up and opening the fridge. I was shocked to find it nearly empty.

"Does this boy ever eat?!" I exclaimed out loud, to no one in particular. I took out the milk and sniffed it. It was super sour.

"He prefers to go out," Harry laughed, seeing my reaction to the milk.

"I can see that. Looks like it's gonna be another Starbucks morning."

"Well have fun with that. Do we have your permission to leave now, Mother?" Leah asked sarcastically.

I looked around the kitchen. It was good enough.

"You can go, but stay safe children. Remember stranger danger," I smirked.

"Will do mum!" Harry replied as he shut the door behind him. I sighed as I finished putting some last wrappers into the trash. Just then, I heard a key turning in the lock of the front door behind me. I turned as Liam entered the penthouse, a grin spreading across his face as he walked over to give me a quick peck on the lips before setting several bags down on the counter.

"I thought you'd still be asleep," Liam said, leaning back on the island.

"Ha. With Harry and Leah, sleep is about as likely as Niall giving up food for a year."

Liam smiled at me, looking genuinely concerned."I'm sorry about them babe. I promise that won't happen again."

"Don't be sorry, Liam. I'm just happy to be here with you. And to be honest, I like a little chaos," I replied, giggling.

"If you say so. Oh," He said as he turned to the counter, "I got this for you."

He handed me a red gift bag with tissue paper. Why was I getting a gift?

"Liam, you don't need to get me anything-"

"Shh." He cut me off. "Just open it."

I obeyed and took out the white tissue. Inside was a gleaming white iPhone.

"LIAM!" I exclaimed. "Why did you do this?"

He shrugged. "You were in need of a new phone. I really can't keep lending you mine to check your Twitter. And I just wanted to."

"I really appreciate it. What could I ever do to repay you?"

"You could let me do this..."

With that, he wrapped one arm around my waist and his other hand went to my chin. He pulled me close as our lips met. I ran my hands through his curly hair as the kiss deepened. We finally pulled apart, gasping for air. I looked up at Liam, whose grin matched mine perfectly.

"You," I poked him playfully in the chest, "Are a wonderful kisser but a terrible fridge stocker."

He chuckled. "Yeah, I haven't gone shopping in a while."

"We'll have to deal with that issue later. It's already after 8 and I need to stop by the hospital and eat something decent before studio."

"Can I come with you to visit Andrea? I promise we'll stop for food."

"Sure! She'll be surprised but happy to meet you."

"Sounds great, babe. I'll be ready to leave whenever you are."

"Okay. I'll shower really quickly!" I yelled as I ran down the hall.

After a lightning-quick shower, I dried myself off and slipped on the spare outfit I had packed: a pair of red high-waisted shorts and a bright blue and white striped tank top. I threw my hair into a ballerina bun and added some mascara and eyeliner to my face. If people were noticing me now, I wanted to look semi-decent for the cameras. I slipped on my white keds and raced back into the kitchen.

"Ready!" I announced as Liam looked me up and down.

"Don't take this as criticism, but I think Louis might give you the silent treatment."

"Why?!" I asked as I looked down. "Oops... I guess I kinda stole his look. Oh well. I don't have anything else to wear!"

Liam nodded. "He should learn to deal with it-I wouldn't worry. Let's get to the hospital."

Grace's POV

"She's in the ICU," I told Liam as we rode the elevator to Andrea's floor.

"Geez. Must have been a bad accident."

"It was. We're all thankful she made it through as well as she did." I sighed. I never would have forgiven myself if things hadn't turned out the way they did, especially after the way I had left things with Andrea the last time I saw her that night. Liam noticed my tenseness.

"Hey, Grace, everything's okay now, no need to worry," he assured me as he took my hand. I was instantly calmed.

"Thanks, Li. I really appreciate you coming, too."

"I would do anything for you. Really," he replied as the elevator opened on our floor.

I led him down the hallway, where the nurse pointed us in the right direction.

"Do you mind staying out here for a minute, just while I make sure she's okay to have visitors?" I asked Liam as we stood outside Andrea's room.

"Sure. Take your time."

I entered Andrea's room cautiously, not sure if she was even awake.

"Grace!" Andrea exclaimed. She was lying in bed, with IVs and monitors everywhere, and yet she was excited to see me.

"Andrea! I'm so glad you're doing okay!" I rushed over to give her a super-careful hug.

"Couldn't be better! Well, except for the fact that they're making me wear this trashy-looking thing," she sneered at her pale-pink hospital gown.

I cracked up. "Always the fashionista, you are. I'm so sorry I've barely stopped by. You must think I'm a horrible friend."

"I would never think that, Grace. I know you're really dedicated to your dreams. Michael mentioned something about how a big opportunity opened up..." She trailed off.

"Yes! As a matter of fact, there's someone I want you to meet."

I stuck my head out the door to motion Liam forward.

"Andrea, meet... Liam Payne."

Andrea's mouth dropped into an O as Liam came up behind me. She knew about my longtime obsession with the boys, Liam in particular.

"Fantastic to meet you, Andrea," Liam replied in his extremely attractive British accent.

"You too..." Andrea managed as she looked at me. She was completely shell-shocked.

"Okay, so here's everything," I said, collapsing into a chair next to the bed, Liam following me. "This week at the open mic, I met Liam, and when I got the call about you, I ran out of the coffee shop without my guitar. Liam took it for me, and I met him the next day at the studio. Long story short, I helped the boys with some lyrics, and they asked me to help write their new album! And Leah from high school is my new manager."

Andrea was completely unable to speak. It was a lot to take in.

"And," Liam added as he took my hand, "Grace and I are a couple."

With that, Andrea seemed to snap out of her trance as she let out a squeal. "Oh my gosh Grace! I'm so happy for you!"

"Thank you Andrea!" I got up and hugged her again.

"So I'm guessing you too have a busy day ahead of you," She continued.

I nodded. "We've got studio today, and who knows what the weekend will bring."

"Well then, we'll have to talk when you've got a spare minute!"

"Definitely! I'll try to stop by later if I can. With these boys, every day is unpredictable." I couldn't help thinking of the 5 Seconds of Summer song.

"I understand. You two go be awesome!" She made the motion of shooing us out of the room.

"Haha, ok. I hope Michael comes soon-I promise I'll come back when I can!" I shouted as Liam and I were out the door.

Liam's POV

As we were getting back into my car after our visit to the hospital, I turned to face Grace.

"Would you possibly be able to track down that friend from high school? You know, the one you thought might go on a blind date with Niall?"

"Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that! I can ask Leah."

I watched out of the corner of my eye as she took out her new phone and texted Leah.

"She just texted me Ella's number," Grace replied, less than a minute later.

"Great! Do you mind calling her?"

"Sure." Grace dialed and put the phone to her ear. "Hi! Ella? This is Grace, Grace Masciale, from high school? Yeah! I know- we haven't seen each other in so long... Well I was just wondering what you're up to nowaways... You're back in Hyde Park? That's great!..." She nodded as the conversation continued.

"I have a really out-of-the-blue question for you. Remember One Direction?" I had to laugh when I heard a screech from the other side of the phone line. "Well, I've become close with the boys- Liam's actually my boyfriend!"

I assumed Ella was shocked, due to the pause in her response. "Yeah, I know it's a surprise," Grace continued, "Haha yeah, a lot has happened. But to get to the point, I was wondering if you would maybe be able to go on a blind date with Niall. Well, it wouldn't be blind for you, but it would for him. He's been really down lately and I thought you might be able to cheer him up. I know he was your favorite member."

Grace made eye contact with me, grinning, as she hit "Speakerphone."

'HOLY FUDGEBALLS GRACE MASCIALE YES YES YES! WAIT ARE YOU KIDDING ME? LIKE IS THIS SOME SCREWED-UP EPISODE OF PUNK'D?"

"No it's not Ella, I assure you," I said, chuckling.

"OMG IT'S YOU LIAM PAYNE I'M SO SORRY I'M ACTING THIS IRRATIONAL THIS IS JUST TOO MUCH TO HANDLE IN ONE DAY."

"It's quite okay, I promise."

"So would you possibly be able to make it by train this afternoon?" Grace asked.

"Yes definitely! Let's see... I can be on the 4:00 train and get there by 6:15!"

"Sounds great! Thank you Ella!" I said loudly, trying to pay attention to both the phone and the road.

"No, thank you Liam and Grace!"

"Bye!" Grace said before disconnecting. We exchanged grins as we pulled up Starbucks. Now to get Niall on board with the plan.

A/N

Thank you for reading- I really appreciate it! It literally took me like 3 hours to write this chapter. I hope you like it; it might seem like I explain every detail and event a lot but it's only because I'm trying to make the storyline as realistic as possible.

There's a Hyde Park in New York... it's actually a town, not just a park, to erase any confusions with the Hyde Park in London :D

Remember to Comment! I'd really love to hear what you think! :)
