In Perfect Harmony

Grace Masciale is a young waitress trying to get by on her meager salary in busy NYC. Her true passion is music, so she works hard playing open mics and doing whatever possible to "make it" as a musician. When Grace meets Liam Payne, she is thrown into a life in the spotlight. Can she manage a relationship with Liam, while attempting to follow her own dreams?

15. Day Off (Part 1)

Grace's POV

"You ok, babe?" Liam noticed the way I slumped down into the seat of the taxi.

"No, you're not. What's up?" He peeked over my shoulder to look at my phone, his eyes scanning Leah's message.

"It's only a few labels, Grace. Somebody will sign you. They're missing out on an artist with a lot of potential," he continued, trying to cheer me up.

"I appreciate your kindness, Liam; I'm not ready to give up now, but it's just discouraging. I know I just started out, but what if it's because of the way I look- I'm not as skinny or as pretty as other singers..."

He put his hand on my shoulder to make me look at him. "Grace, don't ever say that about yourself. You're gorgeous, in every way. I mean it. Plus, the record labels probably never even saw a picture of you. I promise, everything is going to work out, one way or another."

Did Liam really mean it? That I was gorgeous? Because I really wasn't sure if it was true. Either way, I couldn't help but giggle at Liam's words.

"What did I say?" He asked, puzzled. "Oh, very funny, Grace," he smirked, realizing the reference to the 1D-covered song.

"Seriously, though. You're going to make it big. I just know it. It might not be the easy way; you're going to have to work hard, but it will all be worth it."

"That's the goal," I sighed.

"Hey, here's an idea," Liam replied. "How about we do a twitcam tomorrow? The fans would go ballistic, and you can play some of your songs to get them out there! Record labels will really start to notice you too."

I raised my eyebrow at him. "You really think this will work?"

"It's worth a shot."

"Okay, Liam, I trust you... but if it all goes wrong..." I mimicked slicing off my head," You're dead meat, Payne." I squinted my eyes at him.

"I promise nothing bad will happen! Just relax, Grace," he laughed as he put his arm around me. "It'll all be great."

We rode in silence the rest of the way to the station. As soon as we were settled on the train, I put my head on Liam's shoulder. Neither of us said a word, but I was ok with the quiet. Sitting with Liam was enough-today had been, in every way, physically and mentally exhausting, and it felt good just knowing he was there for me.

When we arrived in Grand Central, we made our way back to the car.

"Where to?" Liam asked.

"You can drop me home," I replied, shrugging.

"Want to just stay at my place? You look exhausted, and it's closer from here than your flat."

"Sure!" I said, probably cheerier than I should have been. The thought of staying with Liam just gave me butterflies inside, like the good ones.

"Great. We'll be there in five."

He pulled up in front of the building, and after handing off his keys, led me to his penthouse. I really had to get used to saying that. Penthouse.

I dropped my bag on the kitchen counter. Yawning, I looked at my watch; it was 10:15.

"Ugh, what is wrong with me? I'm normally such a night owl!" I exclaimed, looking at Liam.

"I bet you didn't sleep at all last night- that could be part of the problem."

I nodded. "Yeah, you're right. Mind if I hit the sack early?"

"Be my guest," Liam replied. "I should probably get some shut-eye too." He led the way down the hall to the master bedroom.

"Do you want something else to sleep in?" He asked, noticing that I was still in my clothes. I hadn't really planned to be away from home overnight.

"Erm... could I possibly borrow something?"

"Sure." He went over to the dresser in the corner, looking through a drawer until he pulled out a white t-shirt with a black peace sign on it. Liam walked over to the bed and handed it to me.

"This might work."

I looked at it for a second- trying to remember where I had seen it before.

"Did you wear this on the Take Me Home Tour?" I asked him.

"Yup. It was super comfortable, so I decided to keep it. I haven't worn it much though."

"Thanks, Li. I'll be right back." I went into the adjoining bathroom to slip out of my clothes and put on the shirt. It was big, reaching my thighs, but super soft. I couldn't believe I was wearing his shirt! The whole Liam Payne thing was still surreal.

I splased some water on my face, and used some toothpaste to freshen up my mouth because I didn't have a toothbrush. After checking in the mirror to make sure I still looked somewhat decent, I returned to the bedroom.

Liam was lying on the bed in just a tight white t-shirt and his boxers. Oh gosh.

I'm pretty sure my eyes got wide when I caught sight of the gorgeous man, who was mine, but I tried to play it cool.

"You look good in my clothes," Liam grinned. I felt my cheeks turn beet red.

"Thanks, babe," I replied, hesitantly crawling under the covers next to him.

"I am one tired Gracie," I yawned. "Goodnight Liam."

Liam switched off the lights as my head hit the pillow.

I could barely make out his reply as I rapidly drifted off to sleep. "Goodnight beautiful."

Liam's POV

I opened my eyes and yawned as I glanced at the alarm clock. It was 9:45 am. I looked over at Grace next to me; she was curled up in a ball, fast asleep, a smile on her face. I couldn't help but feel happy that she was mine.

Carefully, I sat up and got off the bed, to avoid waking her. I made my way to the kitchen. Peeking around inside the fridge, I realized I had nothing to give her for breakfast. I quickly jogged back to the bedroom and threw on some clothes before grabbing my wallet and phone and slipping out the door, hoping Grace wouldn't wake up until I returned.

There was a Starbucks just down the street, so I just walked instead of driving. The line was short, so it took me no time to order two coffees. I realized that I needed to get something for her to eat, too, so I scanned the cooler of food in front of the counter, settling on two yougurt parfaits. I paid for everything, and patiently waited for the coffees to be ready. All of a sudden, I felt that I was being watched. I turned and saw that outside the coffee shop, there were a couple paps. I had to groan; I know this was a part of fame, but they couldn't even let a guy get coffee without it turning into a big ordeal! After I recieved my order I quickly walked through the photographers and down the street, them trailing after me until I entered my building.

I took the elevator back upstairs and unlocked the door to the apartment. I went straight to the kitchen, pouring the coffees into mugs and the yogurts into bowls, and placing it all on a tray. Maybe she wouldn't notice that I bought them. I hid all of the evidence and walked to the bedroom.

Grace was still fast asleep, so I sat down on the bed next to her and gently shook her awake.

"Grace, wake up love," I whispered.

"Hmm?" she mumbled in reply, still half-asleep.

"I have breakfast," I smiled. That seemed to wake her up.

"You do?" She sat up in bed. "Liam, you didn't have to bring me anything..."

"I wanted to." I couldn't stop a grin from spreading across my face. Grace's long wavy hair, which she normally kept up, was down, framing her face. Her hazel eyes gleamed as she looked at the tray in front of her. I just couldn't take my eyes off this girl.

I watched as she shifted eye contact between the tray and me. "So, were those all the words that you still haven't said?" She looked dead serious.

"What?" I was confused.

"Silly boybander. That was a reference to one of your own songs," she replied, smirking.

"Huh? Oh... Truly, Madly Deeply." I smiled.

"Good job with the coffee and granola on a tray in bed. I must ask, was that planned?"

I had to laugh at how cliché the situation was. "Um, if you want it to be..."

"Aw Li, I'm just messing with you. It's perfect." She leaned over to give me a hug.

"Let's eat!"

She lifted her mug and waited for me to do the same.

"I propose a toast- to a future full of amazing experiences with a wonderful guy."

"And a wonderful woman," I replied. We clinked mugs and sipped the coffee.

"Liam?" She asked.

"Uh huh?"

"Did you, by chance, get this coffee at Starbucks this morning?"

I grinned sheepishly. "How did you know?"

"Well, for starters, I don't think you actually own a coffee maker, and two, there was nothing in your fridge when I looked the other day, and you've been with me, so I know you haven't been shopping."

"And third," she continued, grabbing her phone from the bedside table,"I'm guessing that if I went on Twitter I'd find a lot of photo proof."

"You got me, you smartie," I laughed.

"Either way, I appreciate the gesture." She leaned over and pecked my lips. "Oops, I probably have coffee breath. Sorry!'

"I don't care either way," I replied, putting down the mug and pushing the tray to the side. "I'll take you, coffee breath or not." I leaned over her and put my lips to hers. She kissed back, putting her arms around my shoulders, and before long we were making out.

"Ugh, Liam, why do you keep doing this to me?" Grace joked as we both pulled away, gasping for air.

"I could ask you the same thing."

"How about we actually eat the food you bought, and figure out what to do today?"

"Sounds good."

She grabbed a fork and dug into the yogurt, not even questioning the fact that it wasn't a spoon. I did the same. Man, this girl knew me well.

"I think we need to stock your fridge, and tidy up your house," she said after we had finished our parfaits.

I shrugged. "Works for me."

"Okay Payne. Today's a chores kind of day then. I'm gonna go grab a shower, and then we'll go grocery shopping."

"And later, if you want to do that twitcam..."

"Right! I almost forgot. It's a plan."

I flopped down on the bed as she went into the bathroom, still wearing my t-shirt that looked perfect on her. I'd never liked housework, but I was actually looking forward to today; I was going to be spending time with Grace, the only person I wanted to be with.

So I'm posting really often I know... I just happen to have some chapters pre-written so the updates will slow down :) Hope you like this one...It's not super eventful but I thought it was kinda cute- cheesy, yes-but cute.

What do you think is going to happen with Grace's record deal attempts? Any predictions?

As always, remember to Comment/Like! :D
