27. An Intervention

Grace's POV

"Andrea, I'll see you later!" I called to my friend as Liam and I hurried out of the apartment the next morning. Once again, I had overslept and was late for studio.

As I climbed into his car, Liam handed me a Starbucks coffee and a pastry bag. "I knew this was going to be a rushed morning," he remarked, smirking.

"Aww Li, you know me too well," I replied, sipping the drink as I peeked in the brown bag. Inside was a chocolate chip muffin.

"Mmm, Payne, you really know the way to a girl's heart."

"Thank you. I try," Liam joked, letting his eyes dart from the road for a quick second to look at me.

"I'm so happy for you boys. I think the album will be a real success."

"I hope so. This has got to be the one to remember. It's all us; no more management to control our every move or writers to produce our music for us. Yeah, we had so much fun then, and our fans were so supportive, but I think our later albums were so much more meaningful when we began writing some of the lyrics ourselves. You know what I mean," Liam looked at me hopefully.

I nodded. "When the words come from your heart, it's a whole new feeliing."

"Right. I just want to feel like a real artist. Beyond being in the boyband who rushes out a new album every year. I'm older now, and I want to be taken seriously for our music."

"Liam, anybody who can't take you seriously with these songs that we've written is a very dumb, ignorant person."

"I hope you're right."

"I know I am, silly goose."

We arrived at the studio and hurried inside. As Liam and I walked through the doorway of the writing room, we came face to face with a very scary-looking Louis.

"You're late."

I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud; it was just really hard to take Louis seriously. "Sorry Lou, my fault, I overslept."

"It's 9:21. Unacceptable."

At this point, I'm pretty sure Louis was being serious, but I couldn't really tell. I did feel badly for being late; the boys had hired me to help them write and here I was walking in late.

"Louis, cut it out," Liam interjected. He didn't seem to be in the mood for fun and games.

"Alright. Grace, it's perfectly okay that you were late. Zayn over here is never on time."

"Hey!" Zayn called from the couch.

"Okay, sorry, you're late most days." Louis rolled his eyes.

"Now that we've gotten this tardiness thing figured out, how about we get down to writing?" I spoke up.

And we started another day of album-making.

Liam's POV

I knew Louis was joking about caring that we were late, but he was right; it wasn't really fair to everyone. Grace didn't mean to keep oversleeping, but it wasn't helping anyone if she was always exhausted. This could only go on for so long- I knew Grace was strong enough to keep going the way she had been, but in my opinion, she needed a break. While she was writing with Niall, Harry, and Louis, I pulled Zayn into the hallway. I knew exactly what I wanted to do to help G, and he was just the person I needed.

Hours later, we finished writing for the day and said goodbye to everyone before returning to my car. I looked over to see Grace in the passenger seat, looking excited.

"What's up?"

"Leah just texted me. The second show on Sunday is sold out!"

"Fantastic!"

"Omg Liam, I can't even explain how hyped I am. Thank you so much- I owe it all to you."

"What?" I asked, puzzled. "I didn't do anything! It was all you!"

"But you did, Li. Your twitcam and all the attention you get is the reason people know about me."

I shrugged. "I was thrown into this lifestyle. If I have an opportunity to help someone out because of it, I take it. Besides," I smiled at her as I put my hand on her knee, "Even if I wasn't plastered all over magazines and gossip websites, and our lives were so-called "normal," I'd still do whatever I could to support you and your talents. I believe in you, G."

"Aww, thanks." A grin spread over her face as she looked away, blushing. "I'm so happy I met you, Liam Payne."

"And I'm so happy I met you, Grace Masciale."

The silence was unbroken as we sat there for several minutes, just looking at each other. Her wavy hair was loose around her face, and her hazel eyes glimmered. How was I so lucky as to meet her, and call her mine?

I finally put the key in the ignition and started the car, reluctantly taking my eyes off Grace.

"My house, right?" G said finally.

"Sounds good to me." I knew Grace wanted to get home to Andrea. Plus, the surprise I had for her was waiting there, so I didn't hesitate in driving straight to her complex. I parked the car and we walked into the building, completely ignoring the photographers that had set up camp outside.

We took the elevator to her floor, and Grace took out her key as we reached the door. Hesitating as she went to put the key in the keyhole, she turned to me.

"I wish I could hang out with you tonight, Li. I love Andrea to death, and I would do anything for her, so I hope you can understand. I promise I'm all yours when she's better!"

"I know Grace, there's no need to apologize. I'm just worried about your personal well-being. You're a strong woman, but I just don't want to see you fall apart."

"As you said, Liam, I'm a strong woman. I got this."

Uh-oh. I hoped she wouldn't take offense to my "intervention" then...

Before I had a chance to collect my thoughts, Grace opened the door.

"Hi... Diane."

Grace's POV

"Hi... Diane." What was Andrea's mom doing in our apartment?

"Hi Grace!" She replied cheerfully.

I turned to Liam, confused. Before I could say anything, he spoke up.

"Diane is going to take care of Andrea for the next few days while you are on a mini-vacation. You've been working so hard both in the studio and at home, and you need a break."

My blood boiled as the words came out of his mouth. What did he think I was, a weak little girl who couldn't handle multitasking for a couple of days? Yeah, I was tired, but it was nothing unbearable. I could feel the steam coming out of my ears as I prepared to retaliate, but I managed to collect myself enough to prevent a full-out hissy fit in front of Andrea's mom.

"Don't be mad, Grace, I know you're fully capable. I just want what's best for you, especially with Sunday coming."

Normally, this was the part where I got in his face and lectured him about being independent, but I kind of understood where he was coming from. Liam wasn't trying to hurt my ego, he wanted to help.

"You'll spend tonight and tomorrow with me, and then Saturday you've got a girls' day out with Perrie," he continued, looking for me to respond.

Aww, Liam had gone to the effort of planing out a relaxing weekend for me. It was hard to stay mad at him for caring.

"I would kill you for interfering with my life, Li, but I know you're trying to be helpful. So thank you," I said as I smiled up at him. To be honest, I really didn't know Perrie, but a girls' day out sounded heavenly right now. "And thank you Diane. I really appreciate you making the trip."

A/N

Ugh don't kill me for taking so long to update! I'm super super sorry… this week has been chaotic.  I had school and homework and then Halloween, plus I saw Ed Sheeran at MSG on Friday (eeeek!) and he was beyond incredible.  OMG HIS NEW SONG NEW YORK IS FANTASTIC AND HE SANG WITHOUT A MICROPHONE AND TAYLOR SWIFT WAS THE SURPRISE GUEST AND I'm gonna stop fangirling now lol. Sorry for my rant.

I know this chapter is a short boring filler (that's unedited :( ), and I'm sorry for that too. When life settles down I promise I'll write longer, more interesting chapters.

Thanks for sticking with the story!
