24. A Homecoming

Grace's POV

"G, wake up, babe," I stirred from my deep sleep at the sound of Liam's voice whispering in my ear.

"Hmm..." I replied, still groggy.

"We've got to get up for studio. And Andrea's coming home today," he continued as he kissed my forehead.

"Mmm, can we just lie here instead?" I asked, opening my eyes to the sight of Liam looking down at me, as we were still cuddled close together on my small bed.

"I wish we could, but the album has to stay on track, and we have to start preparing you for this weekend. I know you wouldn't want to miss that," he chuckled, kissing me again, this time on the cheek. Why did he do this to me? His kisses seemed to put me in a trance that made me agree to anything he said.

"Alright, you win this time, Payne. What should we do for breakfast?"

Just as I was speaking, we heard a clatter from the kitchen.

"I guess Niall is awake?" Liam asked.

"Oh my. We better go check on him," I giggled as Liam got off the bed, so that I could follow him into the main room/kitchen. There was Niall, standing over a frying pan on the stove. He grinned when he saw us.

"Hey guys! I'm working on pancakes and eggs if ya want to join me."

"Mmmmm, sounds good Niall," I replied, sitting down at the table and looking at my watch. It was 8:10; plenty of time to eat and take a quick shower before studio.

"How do you like your coffee, G?" Liam asked me, still standing at the counter.

"Umm, with lots of cream please," I replied, giggling. I had never really liked the taste of coffee; I just drank it for the caffeine. I always seemed to be sleep-deprived.

Liam poured three cups of coffee, handing one to Niall at the stove, one to me, and keeping one for himself as he sat across from me at the tiny breakfast nook. I peered into his mug; it was straight-up black coffee. Li noticed as I made a disgusted face, and he laughed. "I take it you're not a big fan of the coffee taste."

"You got that right," I replied.

"Here ya go," Niall set the plates down in front of us before sitting and digging into his own food.

I tried my pancake; it was heavenly. "Oh my gosh, Ni, these are so good! I might have to hire you as my personal chef," I joked.

"Thanks, Grace," Niall replied, his mouth full of food. "Oh, by the way, thanks for letting me crash on your couch."

"No problem, Niall. So how's Ella?" I asked. We had been so busy that it was tough to find time to talk. Nialler's face lit up at the sound of her name.

"She's great, after our date on Saturday she had to go home but we text and Skype. Hopefully she'll be able to come back this weekend though."

"That's great! You could always take the train to see her, too. It's not that far," I replied, smiling. I was so glad he was finally happy.

"Yeah, I never thought of that! She's quiet when you first meet her, but she's really chatty and sweet and she's got a fantastic sense of humor..." He rambled on. I looked at Liam, who winked back. Niall really seemed lovestruck.

"Hate to walk out on this conversation, but I should probably go get ready so we're not late," I smiled at Niall. I didn't want him to think I didn't care about Ella, but the man just kept on talking and talking, so I cleared my plate before I left the room, and let Liam be the one to stay and listen to it all.

I took a quick shower and brushed my teeth before I realized I had left my contacts in all night. So that's why my eyes had felt uncomfortable. Ugh. Now I had to take them out and give my eyes a rest; I'd have to wear my glasses, as much as I hated them. Wrapped in my towel, I scooted past Liam and Niall, who was still talking, and went into my room to change. I grabbed some blue denim shorts and a sleeveless black and white polka-dotted shirt, and put on my makeup. Taking my red Toms off of my shoe organizer in my closet, I did a final check in the mirror before heading back out to the kitchen. Niall and Liam were at the sink, Liam washing and Niall drying the dishes.

"So when did you two learn to be so helpful in the kitchen?" Liam looked up and grinned at me at the sound of my voice.

"Living on your own for so long, there's just some things you pick up," he replied.

I laughed. "I was joking, Li. I appreciate the fact that you cleaned up after yourselves; I'm fully aware that you can wash dishes."

Li grinned. "Alright, then. I should probably take a quick shower before we head out. You need to get ready, Niall?"

Niall shrugged. "Nah, I'll go home right after studio and change."

"Whatever works for you. I'll be right back," Liam said as he scooted off to the bathroom.

"Oh, Li, there are extra towels in the bathroom closet!" I called after him. Now that I thought of it, I was pretty sure the only shampoo in the shower was fruity-scented. Oops.

Niall and I put up the banner and then chatted until Liam was ready to go.

Grace's POV

The morning went fairly quickly; we wrote a new song, and discussed plans for the afternoon. The boys would start tracking their vocals for their favorite song written so far. But for now, it was time to get Andrea.

Liam pulled up to the hospital, and we both got out and walked through the main doors, taking the elevator and reaching Andrea's room in about 3 minutes.

"Grace! Liam!" Andrea exclaimed when she saw us.

"Hey girl," I greeted her in reply. "You ready to go home?"

"Never been more ready in my life!" She replied, a smile on her face.

"Oh, I brought you some clothes," I told Andrea, handing her a bag.

"Let me get a nurse," Liam said, ducking out of the room. While he was out, I helped Andrea change into the blue dress I had brought her. Pants likely wouldn't have fit over her cast very easily. Li returned several seconds later, a nurse at his side. She was older, probably in her early fifties, strongly built, with short dark brown hair. The name on her name tag read 'Becky.'

"All set, Andrea?" She asked the girl in the hospital bed.

"Yup, Becky, I'm ready to go! These are my friends who are driving me."

"I'm glad you have such close pals," Becky replied, moving a wheelchair over to the bed.

After some effort by Becky to get Andrea into the chair, we said goodbye to the doctors and nurses we passed in the hallway, and made our way out of the hospital. Liam wheeled Andrea, while I carried a bag with her belongings, along with several vases and gifts that had been sent to her room. The second we exited the sliding doors of the lobby, flashbulbs went off in our faces. Dang it; the paps had found us. I could only imagine the stories that would be made up based on the photos they were taking.

We made our way through the swarm of photographers and helped Andrea into the car. Liam and I jumped in the driver and passenger seats, and we drove off as quickly as possible. As we made our way through the crowded streets of the city, I turned my head around to ask Andrea why we still hadn't had any contact with Michael.

"Hey Andrea?"

"Hmm?" She said as kind of a question, refocusing her attention from out the car window to me.

"Where's Michael?" I asked her.

Andrea just shrugged. "I don't know, he's on vacation last week and this week, so he should be around. But I haven't seem him since last Friday."

"Huh," I replied. Something was definitely up. "Why don't you try to call him to let him know you're on your way home?"

"Yeah, I probably should. I've texted him every day, but he hasn't replied."

"I guess it's worth a try, though." Liam and I exchanged quick glances as he drove. I didn't want to worry Andrea, but it seemed like something might really be wrong.

"He's not picking up," she announced thirty seconds later.

"Okay," I replied. Before I had a chance to say anything further, we pulled up in front of Andrea and I's apartment. Liam put the car in park and hopped out.

"G, I'll go make sure everything's all set up inside. Do you want to start helping Andrea out of the car?"

"Sure. Oh Li, you might need this." I tossed him the apartment key, and he nodded and entered the building.

Liam's POV

I made my way into the building and jogged up the back staircase to the girls' floor. Walking down the hall, I pulled out the key Grace had given me and unlocked the door. When I entered the apartment, the first thing I noticed was the lit-up Blackberry on the kitchen table. That was strange; Grace, Niall and I all had iPhones, and that phone hadn't been there that morning. I picked it up and looked at the screen; there was 6 unread text messages and a missed call from 'Andrea.' So it was Michael's phone... What was he doing here? Better yet, where was he?

I heard a noise coming from the direction of Andrea's bedroom. Noticing the door was slightly ajar, I walked over and peeked in. Michael was inside, but he wasn't alone.

"WHAT THE HECK?!" I shouted, throwing open the door to the bedroom. Michael and his blonde female friend practically fell out of the bed. "Geez, sorry man," Michael shrugged, struggling to pull on his shirt.

"Don't even try that with me, you idiot. Your girlfriend is coming home from the hospital after being hit by a car and she gets to see you like this? Cheating on her? In her apartment? That is so freaking disgusting. You have 15 seconds to collect yourself and GET OUT OF HERE." I was absolutely furious. Plus, learning that Michael cheated would definitely not help Andrea in her healing process.

I stood in the doorway, a glare on my face as I waited for the two to get dressed. When they were finished, I escorted them to the door and handed Michael his phone. "Take the back stairs and go out the back doors of the building. I don't want anybody to see you. Now go," I gave them a final look of disgust as I watched them hurry down the staircase. How was I going to tell Andrea and Grace?
