1. Chapter 1

"Brigette please report to the principles office immediately, thank you" As I stood up and got my bag, I wonder what could I have possibly done wrong?

"Sir, whatever you thought i did, I didn't do" I say nervously walking into the principle's office. "Wait dad, what are you doing here?" I stop dead, this must be serious. My dad's expression was bleak but I could see his worry, "Bridgette, you have to come with me" he said with lack of expression. With that, he walked out waving at me to follow. "Where are we going? What happened? Is anything wrong?" I ask following him.

"You are excused from school for the rest of the day" was all he said, without even looking at me. I fastened my pace to keep up with him. We got into the car, I wanted to ask him so many questions, but thought against it. Seeing the mood that he was in, he would fire at me if I kept annoying him. The ride was awkward and silent.

He pulled over at a hospital. I knew exactly what was happening, the thing I was dreading the most. My heart was racing, tears were tempting to fall from my eyes. I walked into the room,to find my brother, Justin already there, sitting by my mother.

She was lying there, moving ever so slightly. She smiled at us as we sat by her. I took her hand in mine, feeling her cold and bonny fingers. My father requested for some time alone, so my brother and I waited outside. "Justin, will she be alright?" I ask. "I don't know, Bri" I rested my head on his shoulder, not daring to think of the opposite.

"So, how long were you in there?" I question. "About half an hour ago, she tolled me that I had to  shave"Justin replied, letting out a slight smile. "Haha, she's always commenting on that." "I'm gonna get some coffee" with that he walked away, sniffing.

I was now alone, waiting for my dad. I was so lost, didn't know what to do. I just shut my eyes, and prayed for her, my last hope to keep her alive. Not long after, my dad walked out, it was my turn. I sat on the chair nearest to her. She still had beautiful green eyes, but her lips were dry and cracked, she looked so pale. I reached out to touch her hair, still soft. "I love you so so much Bridgette" "I love you too, mom"

I sat by her side, and sang her a song, the song she used to sing to me while I was little.

Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home

I looked over Jordan and what did I see
Comin' for to carry me home
A band of angels comin' after me
Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home

If you get to heaven before I do
Comin' for to carry me home
Tell all my friends I'm comin' there too
Comin' for to carry me home

"I have always loved your voice, so sweet" I smiled at her and continued.

Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home

I'm sometimes up and sometimes down
Comin' for to carry me home
But still I know I'm heavenly (freedom) bound
Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home

If I get there before you do
Comin' for to carry me home
I'll cut a hole and pull you through
Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home
Swing low, sweet chariot
Comin' for to carry me home

Suddenly, there was a beeping sound. My hands were fumbling. "Nurse! Nurse! " I cry as loud as I could. I stood to the side as the doctors rushed in. Dad was by my side, putting his arm around me as I cried. They pulled the curtain and i could her imagine the doctors and nurses, trying to revive her. But deep down i knew, she was in a better place now.
