But when a cougar attacks Cora and she is saved by a siren named Tuari, they go through the challenges of the water curse together. Even though Cora and Tuari live together and they know each other quite well, does Cora know Tuari well enough? Is Tuari all she says she is? Will Cora ever put the pieces of the mysterious attacks together or will it lead to a place she doesnt want to go?

When we got home it was about 7:30pm, mom still wasn't home so we went into the barn to put Tundra away, but Tuari was still having trouble standing and walking. So as Tuari gripped the wooden pillar in the barn for dear life, I put Tundra away and gave her some hay. I looked over at Tuari, "are you sure you are ok?" she nodded quickly and then sighed, "Im sorry Cora, it has been a very very long time since I have been on the surface so I guess I'm just out of practice." I smirked, "well I think you be here a while so it'll workout." I walked over to her and got her to get on my back so I could piggy-back her up the barn stairs to where she was staying. There was a bed, a small kitchen and a bathroom. I put Tuari down on the bed and she had a sheepish look on her face, "what is it?" I asked, "Do you have something we can put water in so I can sleep in that for a night or two?" I nodded, "I can see." I ran down the stairs and found a large metal tub an brought it up to Tuari. After a while of refilling bowls and dumping them into the tub it was finally full of cold water for my new mermaid friend. It was weird thinking that mermaids are real, and especially that I am now a mermaid. How am i supposed to go to school and act like everything is ok? I now have a tail, I don't know how I am going to keep this from mom.
