Izzy has just moved from London to Rome and has spent the summer horse riding. There she met a guy called Lorenzo who has become her best friend. One night they kiss, but Izzy realises she has no feelings for Lorenzo, but she knows that he feels differently. One day, Harry Styles from One Direction appears at the stables and completely turns Izzy's llife upside down.

1. The Kiss

Two months. Three weeks. Four days. That’s how long I’ve been living in Rome now and it’s also how long I haven’t been living in London anymore. The summer holidays are over in three days. I honestly don’t want to go to a new school where I don’t know anyone. A school where Ellie isn’t with me.  A school where I have to start over again. But there is one good thing to that aspect; Danny isn’t there. Thinking of him sends a shiver down my spine that I can’t control. I shake my head, sort of to get rid of that thought. I’m on my bike driving to the stable where I have spent almost every day of my summer. The only friend I have right now is there. Let me correct myself; the only two friends I have. One of them is human, the other one is a horse. They are called Lorenzo and Marti. Lorenzo is a tall, brown haired, good looking 19-year-old Italian boy with beautiful green eyes and a gorgeous Italian accent when he speaks English. He is the groom of ten out of the seventy horses in the stable, one of them being the horse I’ve been riding the entire summer.

The way we met was really funny, because I had just ridden Marti and was taking him back to his stable, when Marti suddenly ran off and I accidentally let go of him. I ran after him, screaming like an idiot and when Marti finally stopped running I noticed he had stopped in front of a young man grinning cheekily. I obviously blushed bright red because I had been screaming and running like a total freak and realized he had seen me. He then introduced himself as “Lorenzo, but you can call me Lori”. That is how we met, and since then we have been extremely good friends. Strangely enough, I don’t have feelings for him, which is something that would seem normal for me because Lori is actually my type of guy; brown hair, light eyes, fun personality. But for some reason, the only thing I feel for him is friendship. According to the girls in the stable who all drool over Lori and totally hate me, Lori has had a crush on me ever since he saw me. But I’m sure they only tell me this so that things will get awkward for me and then I won’t want to be friends with Lori anymore. Whatever their plan is by telling me that, I don’t care, because Lori and I are good friends and it will stay like that.

I probably should admit that Lori and I kissed. But only once. And it was something that should have never happened. It was the third week of the summer holidays and it was around eight o’clock in the evening. Most people were gone, at least, everyone from our section of the stable. We had just finished grooming Marti together after having come back from an evening ride. Lori had been looking at me strangely all night so I decided to ask him what was going on. “Lori, va tutto bene? Is everything all right?”. Lori just came closer to me, without answering. I repeated my question and he said,
“You look so beautiful tonight, Izzy,” He never took his eyes off me while saying that and I could feel myself blush. “Lori, what are you doing?” I asked him, as he kept coming closer. Lori raised his hand to my cheek and stared right into my eyes. “You’re really irresistible, do you know that?” his compliment made my stomach flutter, even though I knew it wasn’t right. It wasn’t a very nice flutter though; it reminded me of what Danny used to say to me. I sort of froze when his face was about five centimeters away. His breath tasted of the cherry cola we had drunk together half an hour ago. Then, when I actually didn’t expect him to, he kissed me. His lips pressed against mine and at first I didn’t move or know how to react, but, against my will, I kissed him back. I didn’t know why I was doing it, but I couldn’t stop. It felt so wrong but also so right at the same time. Our lips were moving in sync and something about that kiss made me want to continue forever. When he placed his hands on my hips, I couldn’t help but grab the back of his neck and respond to his kiss, getting rougher by the second. Lori began to push me backwards and I bumped hard into the wall of the stable. He pressed his body against mine and that’s when we heard the big entrance doors slide open. I quickly slipped out of his arms and pretended to be grooming Marti. Whoever had slid open the doors was now gone again because there were no sounds anymore, and all I could hear was Lori and mine’s heaving breathing. Lori still stood by the wall, looking down. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered, his voice full of regret. He banged his fist hard on the wall and I went over to him. I put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. “It’s alright. Let’s just pretend this never happened, ok?” I looked at him expectantly and waited for him to look up. Lori nodded and opened his mouth to say something, but then shut it again. “What? Do you want to tell me something?” I asked him. Lori sighed heavily. “Did…did that kiss…mean anything…to you?” he asked. The frustration in his voice was not to be overheard. He then looked up at me and I shook my head. “I’m so sorry, really. It’s just…I… I’m sorry. I don’t know why I let myself do that,” Lori shrugged and made his way to the door of Marti’s stable. He quickly patted his nose and then left. “See you tomorrow,” he mumbled. I had never felt this bad for something I had done.
