Counting Stars

16 year old Lela Hemmings has never felt real love. Her father died when she was 15 and her mother died giving birth to Lela. Lela lives with her Aunt. She is depressed, insecure, and shy. She walks the halls with her head down and her mouth shut. She is bullied though. Pushed. Laughed at. Judged. Due to her shyness, she literally doesn't talk to people. At all. As a result, she is afraid to stand up for herself. Then someone walked into her life. She didn't want them to stay, but she didn't want them to leave. Can someone as simple as a person, as simple as a boy, change her life?

17. Dont Cry

Don't Cry

My bedroom door swings open and Ashton stands in the door way, crying.

"Ashton! What's wrong?" I ask standing up.

"My dad is in jail." He cried.

"But I thought you said you hated him?"

"I do, but he is my dad! He is the only other guy in our house! He will always be my dad, I need my dad!" He sobbed. I ran up to him and hugged him.

I have never seen him cry.

We walk over to the bed and sit down.

"Ashton, calm down and talk to me. Okay. I just need you to breath." I say trying to, obviously, calm him down.

He takes a deep breath.

"My dad was busted with drugs. My sister was in the car with him and he was high. They almost got into a car accident with a cop and now my dad is in jail." He shakily explains.

"Wait, you have a sister?"

"I will tell you about her later." He says. Then he started crying again.

"I swear to god, I am going to die. I can live in a house full of girls!" He cries.

"Well I cant help you there." I sighed. He looked up at me, and then laid across my bed.

"Do you understand how tall you are?" I ask.

"Really? Now?" His voice is muffled by the blanket.

"I know, I'm sorry. My dad would always try and talk about everything else except for the problem. It would help me get my mind off of it. Listen, maybe its for the better. I don't want to see you the way I saw him. He was always drunk or high, I mean you said it all yourself." I say. He sits up and looks at me, still crying.

"If you want, I can see if you can stay for a couple of days. My aunt can be pretty disgusting sometimes." I suggested.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive. Stay here and I will be back." I say standing up.

I walk down stairs.

"Hey, can Ashton stay for a couple of days?" I ask.

"Sure, but remember your limits." She replies.

I run back upstairs and into my room.

"Your-" He kisses me.

"What would I do without you?" He smiles but still has watery eyes.

"Well right now you would be at home with your step mom and your sister I have yet to hear about." I say.

"I will tell you more about her later."

I had no idea he had a sister...
