Blue Kool-Aid, Big Spoons, and Best friends

"Here." I hand him the large glass with blue liquid in it.
"What is this?" He chuckles.
"It's Blue Kool-Aid."
He nods and takes a drink. I see his eyes squint and he puckers his lips. "What did you put in that?" I laugh.

My mom hands me my bowl of cereal with a small spoon. I toss the spoon in the sink and grab one of the big ones. My mom looks at me weirdly.
"You know how I like it." I take a bite and she smiles shaking her head.

I sit with my head on Zelo's shoulder and his arm around me as we sit by the pond in the back yard.
"Zelo, you're my best friend."
"I'm gonna miss you."
"I'm gonna miss you too."

5. Coffee shop

*Emily's POV*
I wake up to knocking on my door. I groan and force myself to get up and answer it. When I open it I see a very awake looking Zelo.

"Yes?" I ask in my groggy morning voice.

"Hey, is there a coffee shop around here anywhere?" He asks.

"There's one in town."

"Do you want to go with me?"

"It's like 6:00." I whine.

He smiles. ", it's noon." He laughs.

"Oh, my gosh. Really?" I ask smiling. He nods. "Then I guess I better be getting up anyway, just give me a second to get dressed."

"Okay." He walks down the hallway and into the living room.

I close the door and put on my black leggings, black tank top with my tan knitted sweater over it. I then slip on my black converse and brush through my hair. I quickly walk into the bathroom and brush my teeth and wash my face. When I am happy with my appearance, I walk out to the living room.

"Ready?" I ask. He doesn't say anything, he just keeps staring. "What?"

He stands up. "Oh, nothing. Yeah, I'm ready."

I smile and nod and we leave. We skateboard all the way to the coffee shop.

"I'll have the chocolate cooler." I tell Lisa, the cashier.

"Alright." She says typing things into the register. She looks back up, this time at Zelo. "And what would you like."

He thinks about it for a minute then smiles. "Same thing she's getting."

Lisa smiles and types some more things into the register. "That will be 8:75. Thanks for coming." She smiles and we wait for our drinks.

I get mine first and he keeps waiting while I find us a seat. It's one of the front coffee shop windows, where you can see out to the whole street. He finally get's his drink and sits down across from me.

"So...when does school start?" He asks.

"It starts in about..." I think about it. "One and a half weeks or so."

He nods. "I'll probably just hang out with you, would that be okay?" He asks. "I'm just pretty shy so..."

I interrupt him. "No, no, that's fine. Totally fine. I'll have to introduce you to my friend Olivia."

I look up and smile. But what catches my eye makes me sick. Outside and on his way in is the one and only, Liam Jonison and his line of misfits. I liked him for a couple of years and he found out. He then started flirting with my friend and told me I wasn't good enough for him.

"Crap." I say and duck my head, putting my hand on top to block part of my face.

"What?" Zelo asks following my gaze to behind him as Liam walks in.

I try to hide my face with the desserts menu but it was too late for that. "Oh, look who it is guys he says walking towards me. It's Ellie, Elexis, Erica?" He says rudely naming off all of the wrong names to try to get to me, even though I know he knows what my name really is.

"Emily." I say quietly.

"Oh yeah, Emily. The girl that's not good enough." He says laughing.

I look at Zelo who is in complete shock. I look down embarrassed when all of a sudden, "Leave her alone." Zelo says.

Liam chuckles. "What are you going to do?" He asks looking at Zelo. Zelo may be skinny, but he sure is tall.

Zelo stands up and towers him. Liam looks a bit worried but then the cashier comes around and pushes him out the door.

"Thanks, Lisa." I say quietly fast walking out of the shop in embarrassment.

"Emily, wait." I hear behind me. It was Zelo.

I set the skateboard down and hop on. I just keep going, probably the fastest I have ever kicked.

When I get home, I run straight to my room and hide under the covers. I hate what Liam can make me feel. He makes me feel worthless. I start to cry.
