5. Chapter 5

Caycee’s POV

2 months later

‘Morning sweetheart.’ I whispered softly as I leant over to Olivia, who was grizzling inside her cot. I lifted her gently into my arms. I fed her and then changed her nappy. Walking into her nursery, I set her down in her bouncer. I looked around at the walls. They were painted like a forest with fairies on the branches and some suspended from the ceiling. The floor was a grass green colour and I had bought little daisy mats to dot around the room. The chest of drawers, bouncer, curtains, changing table and lights all matched, each a forest scene. She had a wall with different woodland animal plush toys lined along the bottom. I had also bought her a little dressing up chest and inside was various animal costumes and a few fairy costumes.

‘I’m going to work now.’ Josh said from behind me. I turned around and gave him a hug and he kissed me before bending down to kiss Olivia. I waited until I heard the front door click shut.

‘So Livvy, what shall we do today?’ I asked, looking at my innocent little daughter. She gurgled something and I laughed. I opened her dresser and tried to decide what she should wear. Every outfit was so darn cute! I decided on a sweet little blue dress with white ribbon around the waist. Once I had dressed her, I got dressed myself. I chose a pair of high-waisted blue shorts with a white tank top. I slipped on my white gladiator sandals and strapped Olivia into her buggy. ‘Let’s go.’ I said happily.

I walked to the park and sat holding Livvy, just watching the world go by. I must have sat there for about an hour. Livvy started grizzling so I put her back in her buggy and walked back home. I fed her and settled her for her nap. Once she was sleeping soundly, I walked into the living room. I pulled out my drawing pad and pencils. Placing the pad on my lap, I sat and drew for hours.

‘I’m home!’ Josh announced as he walked in the door.

‘Hey baby.’ I said happily, getting up from my chair to greet him with a warm hug.

He kissed me softly yet passionately.  I smiled beneath it. He placed a hand on my cheek, the other was tangled in my hair. I opened my mouth, allowing him entrance. He slid his tongue in and kissed me deeply. He groaned, a deep throaty sound filled with need. Livvy started crying and he reluctantly pulled away. I looked at him intently. His eyes had darkened with lust, his jaw was tight, his cheeks were flushed and his lips were swollen with kisses.

I walked into the bedroom and picked Olivia up out of her cot. She stopped crying and nuzzled into me.

‘Hush little baby, don’t you cry. Mumma’s gonna sing you a lullaby.’ I lulled softly, rocking her. I went into the nursery and sat in the rocking chair my mother had given us. After feeding Olivia, I burped her and then rocked her whilst singing a lullaby my mother had sung to me when I was young.

‘Close your eyes, I’ll still be here when you wake up, I’ll watch you whilst your dreaming, I’ll hold your tiny hand, Go to sleep baby, It’s late in the evening, You have a day filled with play ahead, So sleep the night away, Sleep until morning light…’

As I lay on the sofa, Josh was unloading the dishwasher. I flicked through the channels on the TV before turning it off with a sigh.

‘What’s wrong sweetheart?’ Josh asked, walking into the lounge.

‘I’m just thinking about the baby again…’ I replied sadly.

‘Oh babe! I wish we had them both with us but we still have Olivia, We just have to be thankful for her.’ He answered softly.

‘I know. She’s our little miracle. I just wish we had two little miracles.’ I said longingly.

It’s always times like these that I think about what could’ve been. Just thinking about the fact that when I wake up in the morning, I could have seen two little faces staring up at me, both equally beautiful. A few slow tears slid down my face and Josh gently wiped them away with his thumb.

‘We can have another one.’ He said, searching my eyes.

‘Now?’ I questioned, my heart pounding with excitement.

‘Now.’ He reassured, squeezing my hand and kissing me deeply.
