After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

13. Healing-Part 1

At around 8 I decided that Darcy should head home.

“Darcy, hon, it's time to go home. We'll meet you there in an hour.” I shook her shoulder lightly.

“Why can't we all leave together?” She asked, opening her eyes and yawning.

“You know exactly why. You heard your father and I talk about it last night.” I smirked.

“Okay, okay. I'll see you guys later.” She grinned. She stood up, grabbed her purse, then skipped over to Harry's bed. He was now awake.

“Feel better dad.” She said, leaving a peck on his cheek before making her way to the hall. The door clicked shut quietly behind her.

“Do you want breakfast?” I asked.

“Sure. We can order it if you want.” Harry said, extending his hand towards the phone next to him.

“No, I want to walk a little bit. I'll call you and tell you what they have in the cafeteria.” I offered, following Darcy's path to the door.

“Hey.” Harry called before I could disappear from his view. Our gazes locked. “I love you.” He smiled. I couldn't help but smile back, but left without saying a word.

I strolled down the halls of the hospital, searching for the cafeteria. After around 10 minutes I found it. I dialed Harry's number as I walked up to the first little food bar.

“Hello Love.” He answered.

“Hi. They have a lot of choices here, so just name something...” I said.

“Pancakes?” He asked.

“Okay, got it, anything to drink?” I asked.

“Apple juice.” He answered. I scanned the whole room, trying to find something I might want.

“Holy cow Harry. There are a lot of people in here with cameras and microphones...” I murmured.

“Okay, get up here before they recognize you.” He insisted.

“Mkay, bye.” I agreed.

“See you soon Ariel.” He said. I hung up, a couple texts from Darcy caught my eye before I could put my phone away.

'There's a lot of people outside the hospital mom... Be prepared when you leave'

'I had the cab guy take me to the back of the house. I went through the fence and the back door, there are a bunch of people here too...'

I sighed. Going home would be interesting. I got our breakfast fast, then escaped to the room before anyone could figure out who I was. Harry smiled at me when I walked in with food.

“Thank you.” He said when I handed him his tray.

“No biggie.” I smiled back. We ate our food quickly, neither of us ate yesterday. “Darcy said that there's a lot of people outside and at the house.” I said.

“Is she okay?” He asked.

“Yeah, she went in through the back.” I answered.

“Good. We'll be okay, don't worry.” He said, finishing his apple juice.

“As long as Darcy is alright I'm not worried.” I said. I could care less what people wrote about me, I had a taste of that world in 2013 and it's all fake anyway. But Darcy might not be able to handle it quite yet.

“Are you ready to go home?” I asked.

“Yes, I feel I am. But I'd better get dressed first...” Harry answered. He was in one of those hospital gowns, the one with no back. I buzzed the nurse in and she checked the machines one last time, then unhooked him.

“Take one of these every 5 hours to keep the pain low. Other than that you're free to go.” She smiled, handing him a bottle of pills. Her smile was a little too friendly... She was maybe late 20's, 30's... And very pretty. She slipped a piece of paper under Harry's phone on the desk.

I felt my insides begin to heat up. My eyes focused on my hands, and I realized that my fists were clenched in my lap. I unclenched them before Harry could notice. Maybe I was being paranoid. She wouldn't.... Would she?

Finally the nurse left.

“The only clothes I brought have blood on them...” He pondered, not quite knowing what to do.

“I'm pretty sure they washed them for you.” I said.

“Good, blood-soaked clothes might raise some questions...” He chuckled. He didn't even notice the nurse flirting with him... I did. It shocked me how angry it made me feel. I helped Harry get out of bed, making sure he could stand by himself.

“How does it feel?” I asked.

“Maybe it's the pain meds talking, but it doesn't hurt at all. It's a little stiff when I stand, and it throbs when I touch it, but that's it.” He said.

“Then don't touch it and sit as much as possible.” I laughed.

“Good advice.” He smirked.

“I've been known for giving good advice.” I grinned. Harry looked around the room for his bag of clothes. He turned away from me, forgetting that he didn't have a back to his robe, and apparently had his boxers with the rest of his clothes.. I giggled and covered my eyes with my hand.

“Nice bum Harry.” I giggled again. I peeked through my fingers in time to see him twirl back around and face me. His cheeks were red. I uncovered my eyes.

“Well, uh, I'm having trouble finding my clothes... Could you help me?” He asked. I got up and went to the other side of the bed, there sat a plastic bag with Harry's washed clothes in it. I handed the bag to Harry.

“Thanks.” He mumbled, escaping to the bathroom, making sure not to flash his bare bum to me again. I waited patiently for him to be dressed, because I knew it would be hard with an injured leg. While I was waiting I called a cab company so that it would be outside to pick us up. After a few minutes Harry came back out, dressed, and ready to go.

“A tux.” I grinned.

“In the middle of the day. I know. But at least we match.” He said, motioning to me. I still had my dress on. He only really had half a tux on. He carried the jacket on his arm, and his bow tie in his pocket I guessed. He just had on the white shirt, the vest, and the black pants. The pants with the bullet hole in them... I stood up next to him.

“Ready?” I asked.

“As long as I'm with you.” He smiled. We walked out the door together. As we rode down the elevator Harry and I fixed each others hair.

“Buying that dress was one of the best decisions I ever made.” He smiled, looking me up and down.

“So was renting that tux. You look quite classy.” I smiled back.

"I own this... I was supposed to wear it 18 years ago..." He said quietly, not making eye contact with me anymore. Before I could respond, the elevator doors opened, and the subject was forgotten. We could see all the people waiting outside. As we walked out that nurse that had been flirting with Harry was standing behind the desk. She winked at him when he looked over that way. I clenched my teeth in anger. Without warning I stopped and turned to face Harry, stopping him along with me.

“Can I see that paper that the nurse gave you?” I demanded.

“Sure... I think it's a receipt or something.” He said, handing it to me. I opened it up. Sure enough, it was her name and number. I took a deep breath, and rethought what I was going to do. I almost did something without thinking, that I may have regretted. Screw it. This lady didn't deserve to even look at Harry.

“Please don't think too hard at what I'm about to do.” I said sternly. Harry looked very confused as I got up on my tiptoes and kissed his surprised lips. He hesitated for a few seconds, probably frozen in shock, but then he kissed me back. The electricity was better than I remembered. Maybe it had gotten better with time.

I broke away smiling, before things got too heated... I didn't want Harry to think of this as our 2nd first kiss, it was no big deal. This was just to get that nurse to back off. I wanted our 2nd first kiss to be more romantic, and I didn't want it to be when I'm pissed.

“What-” He began.

“I said don't think.” I cut him off. He smiled down at me. We continued our walk out, and on our way past the front desk. I crumpled up the paper with the nurse's number on it and tossed it to her. As she glared at me, I winked back, a smirk on my face...
