After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

3. Harry Styles' Daughter

Tears welled up in my eyes and spilled over, I tried to look down again but he wouldn't let me. He wiped the tears away with his thumb.

“America” I whispered. It was barely audible. His head was instantly on my shoulder. He hugged me up against him, a lot tighter than Niall had.

“I thought that I would never hear your voice again.” He said into my shoulder. He was too close. I didn't know if I could handle it. His hair was still curly. Not a hairdo you see on many 37 year old men. But I've always liked it that way. I squeezed my eyes shut and leaned back slightly.

“I can't. Harry. Too much.” I was breathing heavy and fast. I needed a paper bag or something... He lifted his head from my shoulder, reluctantly, and slid a few inches away on the couch. I didn't want him to give me too much room, just enough. And he knew exactly what I needed.

“I came, for a reason...” I said quietly.

“I still love you Ariel.” He said murmured, not letting me finish. The tears came faster at that. I put my face in my hands as I cried, hating how much I loved just sitting next to him. I managed to calm myself pretty quickly, lifting my head to look at him again. It was then that I finally noticed that Niall had left. I stared at my hands, they were wet with tears.

“What have you been doing the past 18 years?” He asked to break the silence. Before I could answer his gaze found my left hand. He saw the ring. His face looked completely crushed.

“What is that for?” He questioned quietly.

“My engagement.” I said looking up at him. He nodded, biting his lip. He would no longer look at me.

“I don't love him.” I sighed.

“Then why are you going to marry him?” Harry asked, his voice unsteady.

“I don't want to be alone...” I answered.

“You don't have to be.” He said looking up at me again. His gaze almost immediately returned to the floor. I was at a loss for words.

“Would you call it off if you had a good reason?” Harry wondered, perking up slightly.

“Yes. I'm sure I would.” I nodded.

“Tell him you cheated.” He said not looking at me. He leaned in to kiss me but I immediately stood up. All he found beside him was air.

“I can't, I can't hurt him like that” I said. Harry looked like he was in pain. Before I could say anything else there was a light knock at the door. "I'll get it." I offered, leaving Harry on the couch. I knew who it would be... Sure enough when I opened the heavy door my daughter stood in front of me.

“Darcy! Thank goodness you're alright!” I said, hugging her. “Never run away like that again.” I whispered in her ear. Then I led her over to the couch, but neither of us sat. Harry looked at her in confusion.

“What are you doing here mum?” She mumbled, standing next to me.

“Mum? You didn't tell me you had a kid...” Harry said. He looked up at Darcy. Their eyes met for a split second. He stood up quickly, looking even more hurt, and now angry...

“How old are you Darcy?” He demanded.

“18.” She answered. Harry glared at me.

“You thought it was okay to keep my own child from me for 18 years?! It's bad enough you took yourself away from me, but my daughter too??” His voice got louder and louder. Niall returned, probably prepared to calm Harry down. He looked shocked by the new person present in the giant house.

“Who's this?” Niall asked.

“My daughter.” Harry and I said at the same time. Niall looked at the three of us, then put his hand over his eyes.

“This is a lot more complicated than I thought...” He sighed.

“Half my life I've had a daughter!! I've always wanted a daughter! But I thought that I would never get one!” Harry went on getting louder.

“Why would you never get one? I'm obviously not the only woman who ever wanted you! You could have chosen from millions of girls who documented your every move!” I shouted back at him at the same volume. Back in 2013, there were millions and millions of girls in love with Harry Styles. I'd be willing to bet that now, in 2032, it wasn't much different.

“I already said that I only ever loved you! I didn't go out and get a new fiance did I? And I just completely opened up to you, while you had the biggest secret possible hidden from me!” He yelled. Darcy had backed up to stand by Niall.

“Whoa, wait. Fiance?” Niall asked.

“It's complicated” I said quickly. “I opened up to you too! Do you know how hard this was?! And I've been tortured for 18 years because I left. But I left for you!!” I yelled.

“How was hurting me like that good for me?!!” Harry asked, not shouting, but still angry.

“You know what would have happened! You were in a boy band. A baby and a wife would have ruined your career 3 years in! You were on the road constantly, and you can maybe bring me on a tour bus, but not a child!” I said, mad too. He was at a loss for words. What I did, was for him and Darcy.

I guess Niall knew the whole story now too... Harry looked down at my left hand once more, then down at his own. I followed his gaze. He still wore the ring from me, that he would have received on our wedding day. I left it on our bed the day I left... I stared at his hand, unable to look away.

“Harry.” I breathed.

“Did you keep mine?” He asked, not looking at me. I paused for a moment, deciding whether to lie or not.

“Yes.” I finally said. I got out my wallet and opened the coin part. I pulled out the most beautiful diamond ring that you could ever see. He looked up then, and stared at the ring.

“Does your fiance know you keep that?” He mumbled bitterly.

“No.” I answered.

“Mum, you can't marry Dan. He doesn't make you happy.” Darcy said quietly. Harry was standing rigid in the middle of the room.

“Are you okay mate?” Niall asked, walking over and putting his hand on Harry's shoulder. Harry nodded. Harry stood still for a moment, then his feet carried him to my side. He took my hand in his.

“Stay here. I have guest bedrooms, you each can pick one out that you like. Hell, live here. I wouldn't mind paying for you to move!” Harry insisted, staring deep into my eyes like he had so many times before. I sighed.

“We can stay for awhile.” I said, unable to say no. Now I remembered why I didn't tell him I was leaving when I did. He then took my hand and slipped off my current engagement ring, replacing it with my old one. I admired it as it shone in the light. I was so angry with myself for letting this ring stay on my finger. But I couldn't make myself take it off. It just didn't belong in my wallet...

“Where are the guest bedrooms?” I sighed.

“You can stay with me in my room if you'd like...” Harry said timidly. He knew what the answer would be.

“No Harry. That would be cheating...” I said.

“I wouldn't mind being the other man.” He smirked. I couldn't hold back a grin.

“I know you wouldn't, but I'm not like that.” I said. He stayed positive, but couldn't hide the disappointment in his eyes. He led us up some stairs to a large hall with many doors, and another staircase at the end. Darcy and Niall followed behind me, though Niall didn't need a room, he carried Darcy's and my own luggage.

“Well, this is the biggest one.” Harry said.

“Mum?” Darcy offered, being polite. I smiled.

“Why don't you take this one, gold isn't my color.” I chuckled. The whole room was gold themed. It was actually quite beautiful.

“Are you serious?!” She asked, her face lit up.

“Completely.” I said rolling my eyes a bit. She jumped towards Niall.

“Thanks sir!” She said kissing his cheek. Then she took her luggage from him. Before she bolted into the giant room to explore she hugged her father. “Thanks Harry!” She laughed, then she was gone. I smiled as she disappeared. Harry and Niall took me to the next one. It just so happened to be right next to Harry's, and was almost as big as the first one, but this one was blue themed. They both followed me in, but Niall left after he set my luggage down.

“Thanks Nialler.” I grinned. He laughed as he walked down the hallway.

“She's a lot like you.” Harry smiled, then his smile faded. “I don't want her to call me Harry.” He said sitting down on the king sized bed, with a troubled look on his face.

“Give her some time, she'll be calling you Dad soon.” I said. She only just met him. They've barely talked.

“I hope. I missed most of her life...” He said quietly.

“I thought that Harry Styles having a daughter, let alone a wife, at 19, would get 1D a lot of bad rep.” I explained again.

“What kills me is that you're probably right...” He sighed. “But now all the lads are settled down, with families, and I've been hanging on to you. Today you made me glad that I did.” He smiled, and kissed my jaw. I leaned away slightly, I don't think he noticed.

“I missed you Harry. I've only taken a month off work, so that's how long I can stay.” I said.

“Ariel! You never have to work again! Stay here with me!” He pleaded.

“I can't just drop everything and move here, Harry.” I said.

“Yes you can! You dropped everything and moved there 18 years ago!!” He exclaimed. I had nothing I could say back to that.

“I need to unpack.” I muttered. Harry nodded, and left the room, closing the door too hard behind him. I watched the door quiver for a moment, then snapped out of it. I started to unpack my things and put them in the drawers of the huge dresser. All of my clothes only filled up two out of 6 drawers. When I finished unpacking I sat down on the bed and sighed. The whole past 24 hours had just been a blur. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't asleep.

“Ouch.” I murmured. Nope, not dreaming. Just then my door burst open and I was suddenly tackled by three familiar boys. Well, I guess they were men now...
