After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

28. Darcy Styles

Harry got the keys to some Mercedes he had that would fit all of us. Similar to the one he had when we first met.

We drove to the nearest diner, and sat down at an outside table. By the time our drinks had come, and we'd ordered our lunch, people with cameras and voice recorders began to show up. They waited outside the restaurant, some taking pictures over the hedges.

“Just pretend they're not here.” Harry smiled, noticing Darcy glance at the people often. She blushed, nodding, and taking a sip of her coke.

“Sorry...” She mumbled back.

“It's no big deal.” Harry laughed lightly. I found myself more nervous than Darcy. I was nervous for her, and for us all as a family. So really I was worrying for 3 people. We soon received our food.

I noticed Darcy making sure she ate without ever getting anything on her face. She was trying to be perfect for the pictures, while Harry beside her must have been hungry because he scarfed down his food. It was almost funny, he was oblivious to the cameras. I guess that's what happens after over 20 years. I was somewhere in the middle. All those blog and magazine readers can think what they want about me... But what if that image affected my family? It was quite complicated in my mind... Darcy was the last one to finish her food.

“If someone asks a question that you don't want to answer then you don't need to, alright? You don't have to talk at all if you don't want, I'll just say something quick so that they know that you're our daughter, then we can leave. Simple as that.” Harry explained, placing a tip on the table then putting his wallet back into his pocket. Big tip. Not surprising.

“Okay. No biggie... Right?” She laughed nervously.

“Right.” Harry smiled. His eyes flashed to mine, and he saw my worry. It wasn't rational for me to be anxious, but I was. Since when had I ever been rational?? Harry helped Darcy up, then took my hand. On our walk out he placed his other hand on the small of Darcy's back. We got a few feet out of the restaurant before the people rushed over to us. I could barely understand what any of them were saying.

'Harry! Harry! Ariel! Who's this?! She looks like you Harry are you related? Ariel why have you suddenly come back to Harry?! Do you feel the slightest bit selfish?? That was quite a selfish thing to do!'

That last one almost pushed me over the edge. I ground my teeth together in anger. Harry's eyes flew to mine, worried now. He heard. I nodded to tell him I was fine. Though I was not fine, being pissed off wasn't going to kill me. He rubbed circles into the back of my hand with his thumb.

“This is our daughter, Darcy.” Harry smiled at her. She grinned back. That statement caused a whole new round of questions to be thrown at us. Cameras clicked sounding like a sudden rain.

“Did you know about her before now Harry?” One person asked as they followed us to the car.

“Nope.” He answered simply. No bitterness or sadness in his voice.

“Were you angry when you found out?” Another person demanded.

“No.” Harry lied. Him saying that he'd been angry could turn into someone writing that he threw a huge tantrum and trashed the house or something. These people had pretty broad imaginations...

“Are you and Ariel planning on getting married now that she's returned?” A third voice asked, timid sounding. A rare quality in a pap; must be new.

“That's up to her.” Harry grinned at me as we got into the car. I rolled my eyes in response, a grin breaking out on my face. I heard Darcy giggle behind us. For the most part the people moved out of the way when Harry started the car. He managed to not run anybody over.

“So, where too Darcy?” Harry asked, looking into the rear view mirror at her.

“Huh?” She questioned, confused.

“Today is your day, so it only makes sense that you decide where we go.” He said it like it was obvious. I chuckled softly, realizing again what a fantastic father he would have made as she was growing up. I felt a pang of guilt once again. That pap was right, taking her away from Harry, no matter the circumstances, was wrong. Really wrong...

“Ariel?” the sound of Harry saying my name snapped me away from my thoughts.

“Sorry, zoned out a bit.” I replied, sending a weak smile to him, though not looking away from the windshield. Completely unconvincing.

“What do you think of going shopping? Darcy found a little store when she went with Lou that she liked.” He repeated, looking a little suspicious of my mood change.

“That sounds great.” I agreed, still avoiding eye contact. The guilt may overwhelm me if I looked into his loving eyes. I don't deserve him, I never have...
