11. The Wait

Nicki's P.O.V.

I sat there fiddling with the plastic bag one of the nurses gave me. Inside it held Lydia's phone. The one I had been trying to reach her on, since she left. It's been 4 hours since then. I've been sitting in here for about 3. Her doctor said I would be the first to know when she was stable. He couldn't tell me exactly when that would be though. The nurse who gave me the phone suggested I open the bag, and call her family. But I had already tried calling Jessie with my phone, no use. She wouldn't pick up. I had left her a billion messages, as well as my mom. No one has called back yet. Just then, her phone began to buzz. I didn't know what to do at first. When I did, I quickly opened the bag and looked at the I.D. It was Niall. I quickly answered it and put it up to my ear.

    "Hello?" I answered.

"Lydia?" A deep British voice answered back, "Dee, is that you?" Harry.

"No it's not Lydia," I snapped, "It's Nicki. What do you want?"

"Oh," Harry paused, "I really need to talk to Lydia. Can I please speak to her?"

"Actually, she can't talk right now. And even if she could, she wouldn't talk to you!" I barked, "How could you? To her of all people! You know, I really didn't want to believe what a lot of the media implied, but you really are a man whore!"

"Listen to me!" Harry half yelled, "Nothing happened! She came onto me! I need to talk to Lydia!"

"Well, I'm sorry, but she can't come to the phone right now, she's going on life support!" I yelled and hung up. How dare he? He lied to her. Tricked her into believing he loved her. Played her like chess. He was the enemy now. I really thought he was different than other celebrities. I looked up to him. Now he was nothing.

Niall's P.O.V.

I watched as Harry's face got pale and dropped my phone to the ground. I knew the bus was moving and we weren't supposed to get up, but I unbuckled and ran over to Harry.

    "What's wrong?" I asked frantically.

"We need to hurry." He said quietly. Then he put his face in his hands, "I think Lydia's in the hospital." I sobbed silently.

I leaned over to Zayn, "Tell the driver to go to St. Marcus's Hospital. And to hurry." I said quietly to Zayn. Zayn ran over to the driver and gave him the message. The driver nodded to me in the mirror and sped up a bit. I nodded back and turned my attention back to Harry.

"We're hurrying," I told him. He let out a sigh.

"I called Lydia's phone, and Nicki, her cousin answered. She yelled at me because she thought I put the moves on that host, and when I asked to speak to Lydia, she said she was going on life support."

Lydia was on life support? No, no... She couldn't be. It wouldn't be fair. She had done more than she had even realized for me, and now she's dying. How did this even happen.

"Lydia Von Leffern, what room?" Harry asked the lady at the counter. We had gotten to the hospital nearly half a second ago.

"I'm sorry, sir, I'm not allowed to give you that kind of information unless you are immediate family. Are you immediate family." The lady asked.

"I'm her boyfriend! Can't you just let me in." He argued. I took a step back, and ran my hands through my hair. How could this happen? It wasn't fair to anyone. I looked across the room at the gift shop. Harry sat down on a chair, and tried to call Nicki back from my phone. The boys were surrounding him, so I just kept my distance. I knew Harry really didn't want anyone around him right now. I went over by the gift shop and just looked around. I couldn't help but wonder what if she didn't pull through. She would never know the truth about Harry. She would never know how much she helped me with just one conversation. My eyes drifted the back of the shop when a young woman stood, a giant teddy bear in hand, waiting to purchase them. She was quite beautiful.

She had jet black hair, and very fit. She looked like her bright green eyes, dulled, and her face was tired. She didn't look like she had cry, but she was sad. Quite sad. I walked over and pulled out my wallet. I tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention.

"Can I buy this for you?" I asked, smiling. She turned around to politely decline, but her face changed when she realized who I was. She was in horror.

"What are you doing here?" She demanded, "Is Harry here? Tell him to go away! She wants nothing to do with him ever again!"

"You must be Nicki." I chuckled. She looked back up at me and frowned.

"And you guys are unbelievable!" She half shouted. She payed for the bear and headed out of the gift shop.

"Look, he didn't do it!" I said, following her, "I was there. He's been in so much pain! He just needs to see her! Please!"

"I don't care!" She shouted. I spun her around and put my hands on her waist.

   "Please," I begged.

"Uhg! You're discusting!" She pushed me away and ran into the elevator. I turned around to meet Liam right behind me.

"What the hell was that?" Liam yelled at me.

"Relax, that was Nicki," I confirmed showing him the piece of paper I had snatched from her pocket, "And I have the floor and room."

We gathered the boys up and took the stair up to the 3rd floor. We got there just when Nicki was getting out. Harry ran down the hallway, before Nicki could even realize what was happening.

"What are you doing?" She shrieked.

"He needed to see her." I said, giving her back the paper. She snatched it from me, and started to run after Harry. I grabbed her hand to stop her, "Please, let him go. He really didn't do anything wrong." I begged, "Let me explain." She finally agreed and we sat down, and started talking.
