17. Chapter Fifteen

“Loosen up Harry,” Edward slung an arm around me, smirking whilst his eyes glistened.

“I'm not tense at all.” I lied, inching away from Ed. This was the first brotherly act that he had ever done. I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously. He was up to something.

“Well okay then.” He scoffed, moving over to his motorbike. “I'll take this back to the flat. Enjoy your ‘alone time’ with Harry, Katie.”

“Okay, bye Ed!” She chirped happily, climbing into the passenger seat in my car. Listlessly, I got in and started the engine.

“Were starting school tomorrow.” I suddenly announced, getting Katie's attention. She nodded, a grin forming on her face.

“I can't wait!” She said eagerly, clapping her heads together excitedly.

“What's up with you?” I finally had the courage to speak, “Why are you so happy all of a sudden?”

“Oh, just Ed.” She sighed happily, leaning back into the chair. My grip tightened on the steering wheel.

“Oh, so you love him now?” I snapped harshly. She looked at me with widened eyes, a startled look on her face.

“Uh– no...” She looked at the floor, cheeks flushing with embarrassment. I rolled my eyes, parking the car.

“Sure you don't.” I scoffed, digging my hands into my pockets. I stormed up stairs, anger fulfilling me. I was the one that saved her, the one that made her happy. I wish I had never done that now. I wish I had just left her there so her dad could beat her up! I gasped at what had just flashed through my mind, tears welling up in my eyes.

“Harry?” Katie asked softly, “Are you okay?” She wrapped her arms around my waist, snuggling her head into my chest.

“Yeah– I'm f-fine.” I stutter, my lip quivering.

“You don't have to worry about me an Ed, y'know?” She murmured, closing her eyes. “I love you.”

 “Only me?” I mumbled.

“Only you,” She breathed, planting a kiss on my neck. I smiled, all my worries washing away. Only you. The words repeated over and over in my head, making them less believable. But all I knew was to appreciate the present, because things change in the future. She loves me, and that's all that matters.
